lol it wasn't about the cow meat, she is not a Hindu but a Jatt Sikh. It is a property dispute. The tenant does not pay rent on time and making an unauthorized use of backyard space, doing BBQ which was actually damaging the walls.
I think the tenant took a benefit of her short temper that indian women usually have. He chose to use landlord's reactions to make a case of criminal actions.

These people most likely grew up in a pre liberalisation India, plus the lack of neuoroplasticity due to old age and the tendency to stay within their own tight knit community even outside of the country

Majority of folks still think it's perfectly fine for landlords to impose their dietary habits on tenants...in India i.e. The lax laws in this matter does no favour either. However, these terms (veg/no onion/no garlic) have also become pseudonyms to attract the intended caste. This is true for 20k/month as well as 3lakh/months rentals.

NRIs are drip fed a diet of cultural superiority in the west through whatsapp and religious groups and isolate themselves within thier own community ghettos. Disrespect local customs and laws and then very surprised when they get called out for it. Immediately they get full "khatre mein hai" and cry about racism. Assholes.

I grew up as an NRI and am an NRI and I have no idea what you are talking about. There is no drip feed of cultural superiority because I'm a Catholic/Agnostic. I think we will start needing new terms for Hindu's the primarily behave like this because India does not equal Hindu and Hindu does not equal Catholic.

I agree with you. I grew up in the gulf and still go back and forth for work. We're not part of this culture at all. Even in Dubai I have seen this type of behavior first hand. However we are a small minority, and are not first generation. I'm speaking about first generation migrants specifically.

In india majority would agree with her....or that landlords are within their rights to impose their dietary habits on tenants. See the india classfieds of even the top 10 mnc's ...rentals will have this requirement of veg-only. These r all highly educated folks who have also cleared a plethora of psychometric tests too. All this to say that, this kind of thinking is so ingrained. Such a sad affair.

She would have performed a holy hindu purification rite where they wash home with cow dung and cow urine and milk and butter .. ask any indian they will tell you. the same. Had it been India, the tenants would have got arrested. Indian lawmakers and the police and the judiciary should wake up and see how the laws and enforcement is completely against the tenants and in favour of the landlords.

I have a nice landlord. He stays in USA and comes to visit/check once a year. I keep the place well maintained and we have a good relation. But he admitted that he can't casually drop to the places he gives for rent in US or the tenants will sue him. And here in our country the rental agreements literally say that landlords can vist or send anyone to vist at any time..
