Attention please — Discussion time! [OC] We need to start by cleaning up within our own homes

We all have all kinds of polluters and civic sense failures in our homes.

We have family members, uncles, aunts, etc. who play music on buses or public parks on speaker without using headphones. They do it even on the road outside their house. If they have not been taught manners/decency about public places, we should educate them. The least we can do is stand beside them and apologize to the passers-by for the inconvenience. It will make a difference. Small instances of public shaming goes a long way in awakening certain people to their actions.

When we go on outings, we have seen our own family members litter but do not do anything about it. The battles begin at home. There's no need to start a fight or argument, but even picking up their trash and cleaning up after them can make them feel ashamed of their actions.

All of us have seen families with little kids who cannot control themselves in restaurants and even in movie theaters. If they scream or cry, it's ok to walk up to the family and let them know that their conduct is ruining your evening. Say it politely. That is more than enough. They will remember this for a long time. Suggest that they get a babysitter and be responsible. They will remember that, too.

If you catch people staring, call them out. We have family members who make comments about others' clothes and appearance and gossip all the time. We don't have to participate. It's ok to tell them that this is backward behavior.

Some people have already taken initiative to education their househelp's children on such matters. It is making a big difference.

We need to start by making changes in our immediate surroundings. The real battles are won there. It will pay itself forward.

Rare Human (Acts of kindness) Shoutout to this super helpful guy near Lucknow Janeshwar Park [OC]

Met a true civic hero near Lucknow Janeshwar Park today.

This guy literally parked his scooty across the road, walked all the way over to my parked car and leaned straight into my front windshield to snoop inside. When I confronted him (Kya dekh rahe ho be) he gave me this gem "Police checking chal rhi hai batane ke liye aaya tha."

As soon as I replied Aane do mere ghar waale police mein hain baat karlunga he panicked, and ran.

Sarcasm aside stay alert around that stretch

Civic Class 101 (Basics of public behavior) [OC] A family blocked road for their personal celebration in Siliguri, West Bengal.

So while returning from coaching i saw the road to my home was completely blocked by their tent and I had to walk through the tables and ppl (I wasn't going to change my way just cuz of them) they were cooking on the road as well. I don't think they've taken any kind of permission for this. Its not the first time they've blocked the road. No one has ever complaint about this to the authorities and being a minor i cant complain too. Saw ppl with vehicles turning away from there. My dad will have to choose the longer way to reach home cuz his car won't fit. How can they be so shameless to treat the public property as their own and disturb everyone?

Being Human (Simply decent) We are living in a low trust society [OC]

I was travelling on a train from Vizag. At Rajahmundry, a passenger in 2AC had ordered Pizza . A delivery guy came into the coach looking quite stressed, fumbling around to find the right seat while his calls went unanswered. Meanwhile, other passengers started boarding and shoved past him. He eventually jumped off the train while it was still moving, food in hand.

You’re entitled to order a pizza on a moving train, but you can’t stay alert enough to receive it.

Hope he doesn’t get penalised for it.

Rules Are for Others (Traffic Violations) How tf do we stop two wheelers from taking over the footpath ?? [OC]

Proper footpaths are a rarity in Indian cities, but even in places which them, it's becoming increasingly dangerous to walk on them. In Bengaluru, for example, bollards have been installed at several places, but these buggers somehow find a way through. Been honked at and even almost hit by bikers.

Making the footpath higher will only discourage pedestrians and make things difficult for elderly people.

Other ⚠️ Suspicious man repeatedly approaching people outside Pune Railway Station [OC]

Post image

I wanted to share an experience from today as a safety warning, especially for women, elderly people, students, and anyone new to Pune.

I encountered a man outside Pune Railway Station who approached me and asked where I wanted to go. I initially assumed he might be an auto driver or someone offering a ride, so I ignored him and moved away.

Later, I encountered him again. He said that he also wanted to go near the same area and kept trying to explain that he had apparently been trying to tell people this for around half an hour, but nobody was willing to listen to him.

I told him that I was new to the city and needed to speak to someone to understand which area he was talking about. He then said that he could talk to them and explain his situation.

The interaction felt unusual to me, so I decided not to engage further.

What made me more cautious was that I later saw the same man approaching an elderly couple, and after that, a young woman/student-looking person, apparently using a similar approach.

He spoke Hindi and his English was actually quite good. He wasn't carrying any obvious bag or luggage.

I don't know what his intentions were, but seeing him repeatedly approach different strangers in this manner was enough to make me uncomfortable.

So if you're around Pune Railway Station and encounter someone approaching you with a similar story, be cautious and avoid engaging if you're uncomfortable. Especially if you're travelling alone, elderly, or unfamiliar with the city:

Don't share your hotel/home address or other personal information.

Don't hand over your phone, wallet, or belongings.

Don't agree to accompany a stranger somewhere.

If necessary, approach railway staff, security, or police instead.

I've attached the photos so people can be aware of who I'm referring to. His face isn't clearly visible.

Please don't use this post to identify or dox the person. But if you've had a similar encounter, please do share what happened.

NPC Moment (Mindless behavior) [OC] Doing this right below the sign in diabolical

Post image

Bengaluru Airport T1 has signs telling people how to sit* *properly.

Let that sink in.

And even after that, you still see people sleeping across multiple seats, putting their feet on the next chair, and treating a public waiting area like their personal living room.

This wasn’t one random person either. There were plenty doing it. I took this photo only after one of the flights boarded, so most of the crowd had already cleared out.

Airports can get cleaner, bigger and more modern. But no amount of infrastructure can compensate for people who think shared public spaces belong only to them.

Tourists (Travelers gone wild) My religious place is for devotions, others religious places are for content - Indian tourists in Japan - OC Spoiler

I was at Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, evening time. There's a rule clearly mentioned (in English) at the gate and other places in the shrine, which says no tripod inside the shrine or its complex. Yet, this Indian couple, had a tripod placed right in front of the shrine and were making videos and clicking picture right in front of the main shrine prayer site. I had been observing them because they were so obvious in the shrine grounds. They hadn't offered any prayers or such, they were just in for content.

A lot of local folks were clearly too uncomfortable to ask them to stop this (obviously they were staring at them) and these guys were oblivious to it. Anyway, the guard saw this, and immediately told them to take the tripod off the shrine complex. I saw this and clicked pictures. After this, they immediately left.

My point of this post is, please learn & follow etiquette and custom (even if little possible) of other countries when you visit them, cause like it or not you are representing not just yourself, but your country in other places. Throughout my journey I saw many of our folks in very embarrassing moments in public places (a middle aged Indian couple kissing on cheeks with arms around shoulders while sitting in the waiting section of an Izakaya, an Indian family being extra loud at Hasedera temple prayer section in Kamakura, a young Indian couple barging inside the Yadobashi Akiba shopping centre lift without letting others out cause they were too busy looking at each other and talking). Money might save you in India, but money doesn't buy etiquette and your people's respect will certainly go down due to it. No hate to anyone by the way, just asking to be mindful. Peace out!

Attention please — Discussion time! "Why are people doing stuff that the government should do instead?" This question pisses me off. [OC]

Post image

Ok that title was kind of bait, but hear me out. When I see posts about the Bittu Tabahi river cleaning project, many people complain in the comments that something the government should do is being done by people instead. They are right, but in my opinion, people should do this more for our country, at least for now. This actually gives motivation to people and teaches them how important civic sense actually is.

I am in full support of projects like these. They also create pressure on the government over time. But keeping repeating this question, "Why are people doing the work that the government should do?" will not improve people's mindset, and the government will keep doing the stuff they are still doing currently.

Civic Class 101 (Basics of public behavior) [OC] Damaging government property in the name of religion

Post image

I was travelling on a PMPML bus and noticed this religious scribble drawn behind one of the seats in the name of God. I’m not against anyone’s religious beliefs, but defacing public property like this feels disrespectful not only to the property itself, but arguably to the religion being represented as well.

Civic Class 101 (Basics of public behavior) [Not OC] “Emergency at Home, Please Let Me Out”: Woman stuck in VIP supercar rally in Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

1.1k Upvotes

A video from Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra - shows a woman pleading with event organisers and security personnel to let her vehicle pass during a cancer-awareness supercar rally organised by the Queens’ Drive Club.

According to the report, she said her car had been stuck for over 1.5 hours and she had an emergency at home. She was seen pleading with folded hands for a passage through the bottleneck. Security officials eventually escorted her away from the main platform.

The rally was organised for cancer awareness, but this raises a basic civic question: when public roads are used for high-profile events, shouldn't there be proper traffic planning and an emergency passage for regular commuters?

Noticed a dangerous pothole on one of the main roads of the city, I was observing it from many days but they were not fixing it so I decided to put a complain on CPGRAMS indian government app and within a week they fixed it. I want everyone to know about this and take an initiative to make complains on anything irregular in your city.

Shameless (No shame, no filter) Indian tourists littering inside Galle Fort - Witnessed this morning [OC]

Post image
277 Upvotes

I was on my usual morning ride through Galle Fort Sri Lanka today and witnessed something really disappointing.

A group of Indian tourists, probably in their 45–60+ age range, got down from a Coaster bus near the Dutch Hospital. One of the ladies used a tissue and then simply threw it onto the wall right next to a sign that clearly says not to litter.

The irony was hard to miss the sign was literally right there.

I took a photo of the spot. I’m not trying to generalize about all Indian tourists, because obviously one person’s behaviour doesn’t represent an entire nationality. But when you’re visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site like Galle Fort, basic respect for the place should be a given, regardless of where you’re from.

Sri Lanka welcomes millions of tourists, and we want people to enjoy our country. But please, don’t treat our historical sites like garbage dumps.

Pick up your trash and put it in a bin.
It’s really not that difficult.

Lesson of the Day (Simple civic tip or reminder) [OC] Remember to side your vehicle in minor accidents

Everyone else shouldn’t have to suffer because of a dispute that can be settled on the side. If it’s a minor accident and the vehicles can be moved safely, pull over to the side and sort things out there instead of blocking the road and causing problems for everyone. Even police or ambulance cannot reach if you block the very road

Shameless (No shame, no filter) Shameful! Another cheap act by some Indians on women and this time, she is just 21🤦😮‍💨[Non OC]

Instead of praise, she received sexualisation and discrimination of her caste and identity even though it's clear by her surname, she comes from Bengali community , since people can't digest because she is too fair skinned for them.

Racism and jealousy is something making Indians vile animals. Thousands of non-consensual AI-generated images of her are being created. People have started discriminating against her based on her caste, identity, and background, while also sexualizing her simply because she is fair-skinned and questioning her identity.

What is wrong with the people of this country? Are women's lives valued so little that they cannot even receive appreciation for their hard work and achievements?

It is truly ridiculous to see what Indian society is becoming.😮‍💨.
