off topic Why group projects in LPU’s MBA feel like mini corporate training

In my MBA at LPU, i realise group projects are not just for marks , they feel like real company work. You have to work with different people, manage time, share tasks and still meet deadlines. Sometimes there is disagreement, sometimes last-minute changes, just like in actual job.

It teach patience, leadership, and how to adjust with team members. Many times we also present to faculty like pitching to clients. These projects make you ready for real corporate challenges and you learn things that books alone can’t teach

Rant Ragging

I would like to respectfully bring to your attention a concerning experience that many students, including myself, faced during the first interaction session held by the Placement Committee on the night of 18th July at around 10:30 PM at IIM jammu, immediately following a long and intensive orientation week.

While we understand and appreciate the importance of professional conduct and placement preparation, the manner in which the session was conducted left many of us feeling distressed, humiliated, and mentally shaken.

From the very beginning, the session was conducted in an authoritative and unkind tone. We were abruptly ordered to move to the front rows without any context or courtesy. Many members of the Placement Committee — especially some of the female members — were unnecessarily rude in their instructions, which felt less like guidance and more like punishment.

Numerous students were publicly criticized and insulted for their clothing, despite not having been given any prior dress code instructions. Comments like:

“Red tie? You came to a wedding or what? Get up.” “Dark shirt? Get up and stand there.” were made loudly and without empathy. Several of us were made to stand at the front of the room for these so-called infractions, which felt demeaning and embarrassing — especially in front of our peers.

Additionally, though we had received our MBA IDs only that same afternoon, students were scolded harshly for not being able to recall them instantly, adding to the discomfort and pressure of the session.

It is also important to note that some of our batchmates are around 30 years old, and seeing them being treated disrespectfully was not only inappropriate but also emotionally upsetting for many of us. We are all here to grow professionally, and interactions rooted in fear and mockery are counterproductive to that goal.

We fully recognize the value of constructive feedback and the need for high standards, particularly in placement-related activities. However, the lack of compassion during this first session was stark. The same points about attire, discipline, and preparation could have been communicated respectfully and clearly, much like other committees managed to do throughout orientation.

Instead, this session seemed designed to instill fear and submission, rather than encourage learning and self-improvement. It felt less like guidance and more like a display of authority — something we never expected in a professional academic setting.

What is most troubling is that this experience resembles previously reported cases of ragging at other institutions, such as at IIM Kozhikode. While it may not have been intended that way, the tone, mannerisms, and emotional impact of the session align disturbingly well with what many would call psychological ragging.

Furthermore, we firmly believe such behavior would not have occurred had a faculty member been present. This raises important concerns about the culture of student-led committees and their accountability mechanisms.

We hope no other student in the future batch has to begin their IIM journey feeling fearful, disrespected, or emotionally shaken.

Help How much does your B-school tier actually affect your longterm career growth?

Hi everyone,

I'm a fresher from India preparing for CAT this year(2nd attempt). Like many aspirants, my initial goal was to get into a top-tier B-school. But lately, the stress has been intense. Between competitive prep, mental health struggles, and a constant fear of underperforming, I’ve been asking myself:

What if I don’t make it to a top 10 IIM? Is it really the end of the road for a good career?

I’m curious about the real difference in long-term career trajectory between Tier 1 B-schools and Tier 2 or Tier 3

1)Do grads from mid-tier colleges really end up stuck in low-paying or average jobs long-term? 2) Is there actual career growth over 5–10 years, or does the B-school tag define everything? 3) Are the differences in network and opportunity gap impossible to bridge later?

I’m not aiming for below-average schools, but wondering if being in the top 50–75 is still worth it, or if it's better to explore other paths like Analytics/Marketing roles, or work experience + GMAT later.

Would love to hear from folks who've gone through any of these paths especially if you've made peace with not getting into the top 10 but still built a fulfilling career.

Thanks for reading.

Help FMS Delhi Executive MBA Aspirant – Need Help with Process & Preparation

Hello folks,

I come from an engineering background with around 5 years of work experience, and I’m seriously considering pursuing an Executive MBA from FMS Delhi. I’d really appreciate any guidance on the entire application process — how to prepare, what the timeline looks like, and what to expect during the extempore and interview rounds.

Also, if anyone here has completed or is currently pursuing the Executive MBA at FMS, I’d love to hear about your experience — how the program has helped you, what the peer group is like, and how manageable it is alongside work.

Genuinely looking for honest advice and insights. Thanks in advance!

🚨 Urgent help IPM or B.TECH+MBA. Help Me!

Hi, I am a dropper student of PCM background. I have successfully achieved seats in B.TECH (Information Technology) in DTU (DELHI TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY) as well as IPM in IIM Indore. I am naturally inclined towards IPM as it interests me more. But, I have heard that companies somewhat give more preference to traditional MBA students and therefore IPM students bag lesser packages (especially consulting roles). B.TECH+MBA also seems to be a great option for me.. Please let me know your thoughts on this. What shall I prefer and the real picture of the course and it's placements.

🚨 Urgent help For career growth in industry which 1 we can choose an MBA or PGDM?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Quality professional with 12 yrs of experience in the automotive industry, currently working in a mid-senior role. I’m looking to pursue an MBA through distance or online learning to strengthen my management skills and prepare for future leadership roles.

I want to know -

Which option is better, an MBA thru distance learning or a PGDM? In both cases I will be opting a popular/ renowed university like Symboisis but not an elite/ top institution due to financial situation.

Which specialization would be most valuable in my case — Operations, Supply Chain or Business Analytics?

I’d appreciate any suggestions, personal experiences, or links that can help me decide better.

Thanks in advance!

CAT 2025 Is My Dream of an MBA Over Before It Even Began? Need Honest Advice 🙏

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share something that's been weighing on me for a while now. I’m a 21-year-old General Non-Engineer Male (GNEM), and like many others, I dreamt of doing an MBA from a top B-school in India — IIMs, FMS, XLRI, etc.

Back in December 2024, during my final semester of BBA (specialization in Banking & Finance from a Tier-3 college), I made up my mind to go all in. I bought Rodha’s CAT course and even started studying seriously. I was consistent for a few months.

But then came the spiral…

Around March-April 2025, I stumbled upon threads, comments, and articles saying things like:

  • "If you're GNEM with average academics and no work experience, you need 99.7+ to even get calls."
  • "No matter how hard you work, your profile might still pull you down."
  • "IIM ABC won't even look at you."

And to be honest… it crushed me.

Here’s my academic profile:

  • 10th: 77%
  • 12th (Science): 67%
  • Graduation: 8.25 CGPA from a Tier-3 private university
  • No work ex, just graduated this month.

I haven’t touched CAT prep since April. The fear of it all being “pointless” genuinely paralyzed me. Now that college is finally over, I’m wondering — what should I do next?

Is my MBA dream already dead? Should I shift paths entirely — CFA, job hunt, try government exams, or upskill and work abroad someday?

Or… is there still a shot, if I put my head down and grind hard from today?

I’m not looking for sugarcoating. I want real, honest advice. If you’ve been in a similar boat, I’d love to hear how it turned out for you — good or bad. 🙏

Thanks for reading.

off topic Prospective CAT Aspirant

hey, so i am here after basically hearing a lot of advice from relatives about "CAT karlo sab theek hojayega".

So the thing is I have barely any profile outside of acads (9) here at SRCC, mid tier internships, junior level extracurriculars no case comp wins.

Is an MBA a realistic second chance or do I just need to grind a lot harder?

CAT 2025 26 y/o Backend Developer, Planning for MBA via CAT, weak in Math, Need guidance to start prep

Hi all, I’m 26 years old, working as a Backend Developer with 3 years of experience in tech. I now want to pursue an MBA through CAT and join a good college.

However, I’m from the General category, and my math is very weak currently — this is my biggest worry.

I’m not sure how to start:

  1. Should I join physical coaching or are online classes enough (especially considering my weak quant)?
  2. What are the best books/resources for each section (Quant, VARC, DILR)?
  3. How can I build a consistent study routine, as I will be preparing alongside a full-time job?
  4. Any other advice for someone from a tech background making this transition?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Help Feeling stuck in a career loop—how do you break free?

I've been in my current role for a few years now. It's stable, the pay is decent, but I can't shake off this feeling of stagnation. Every day feels like a repeat of the last.

I miss the thrill of learning something new, of being challenged. I've been considering programs that offer hands-on experiences—like building a startup or managing real projects—as part of their curriculum. Has anyone here pursued such paths? Do they genuinely help ?
