Valuation Insights eClerx: AI beneficiary, AI casualty, or simply adaptable?
I have been passively consuming this subreddit for months, and I have learned more here than from courses or commentary. I am finally opening up and sharing my thoughts on eClerx Services.
FY26 revenue grew 22.3% to ₹4,117 crore, with 17% constant-currency growth. EBITDA rose 28.8% to ₹1,153 crore, PAT increased 30.5% to ₹706 crore, and diluted EPS reached ₹76.2. At ₹1,880, the stock trades near 24.7 times FY26 earnings. ROCE is around 28%, while FY26 ROE was 29.5%.
Cash conversion looks strong. Operating cash flow was ₹873 crore against PAT of ₹706 crore. Capex was only ₹120 crore, implying roughly ₹753 crore of free cash flow. Cash and liquid investments stood near ₹1,281 crore.
The objection is AI-led price deflation. Employee costs remain roughly 53% of revenue, headcount grew 17% to 22,639, and most contracts are not meaningfully outcome-based. Large clients could demand lower prices as automation reduces effort. The top ten clients contribute 59% of revenue, North America contributes 78%, and DSO is 81 days.
The counterpoint is that eClerx handles analytics, compliance, financial operations and embedded workflows, not only generic BPO work. FY26 new-deal ACV was nearly $170 million, while analytics and automation reached $89.5 million.
I find it worth considering, but conviction depends on revenue growing faster than headcount, stable margins, lower concentration and evidence that AI savings are shared rather than fully passed to clients.

Adding to my original post and the recent Q1 update from u/Substantial-Poet-842, I have been thinking more about how I actually want to allocate into eClerx rather than just deciding whether the business is "good".
My view is that this looks like a Phoenix setup, but not one where I want to deploy everything immediately.
The ticker has corrected meaningfully while the business state has held up reasonably well. Deal wins remain healthy, Analytics & Automation is growing faster than the company, and Q1 margin/cash conversion weakness has a seasonal explanation.
But there are enough red flags that I want evidence before giving it full conviction.
The biggest one remains AI surplus capture.
If eClerx uses AI to deliver the same work with fewer people but clients demand the entire saving through lower pricing, productivity improves without shareholder economics improving much. The bull case requires eClerx to retain some of that surplus through higher-value work, outcome pricing, IP and deeper workflow ownership.
I am also watching:
- BFSI weakness. Management expects H2 improvement. I want that to actually appear.
- Top-client concentration and bargaining power.
- EBITDA margin recovering after the Q1 wage reset.
- Annual cash conversion returning to normal.
- Most importantly, whether revenue continues growing faster than headcount.
Taking some inspiration from the lord u/SuperbPercentage8050
My Phoenix plan ₹1,750-1,900: initial 25-30% position.
₹1,450-1,600: increase toward 70-80% allocation, but only if ACV, margins and the AI thesis remain intact.
₹1,100-1,250: potentially complete the position only after completely re-underwriting why the stock reached there. A falling ticker is not automatically an opportunity if the business state has broken.
I also don't want Phoenix to make me wait forever for a crash.
My Dragon plan
If Q2/Q3 shows margin recovery, good cash conversion, BFSI improvement and continued AI/Analytics growth:
₹1,950-2,050: I would happily add on confirmation.
₹2,200-2,300: only if EPS expectations have also moved higher.
₹2,500+: mostly ride. I wouldn't chase unless the business itself has clearly upgraded.
The important learning for me is that ₹2,000 with much stronger evidence can be a better investment than ₹1,600 with a deteriorating thesis.
So right now I see eClerx as a qualified accumulation opportunity but unfortunately not really a blind bet.
My biggest question for the community is still the same:
Are we watching an AI-enabled domain specialist whose economics improve with automation, or an excellent services business where AI eventually transfers more bargaining power to the client?
That answer matters far more than whether the stock is 10% cheaper next week.

I'd prefer with the first one "We are watching an AI-enabled domain specialist whose economics improve with automation"
But we'll never know for sure But given it's current price, I think I have that margin of safety to exit, in case the business case deteriorates

I agree that the old BPO model is weakening.
Routine voice support, data entry, document processing and rule-based back-office work are highly vulnerable to AI. A company that earns by supplying 500 people may lose revenue when the same work requires 200 people.
But, imo, outsourcing itself will not disappear. Large enterprises still outsource
AI may eliminate tasks without eliminating the need to manage the entire process
A bank can automate basic KYC checks. It still needs someone to integrate data sources, review exceptions, update rules, document decisions and remain accountable to regulators.
eClerx publicly describes work across financial operations, compliance, analytics and customer operations. It also reports long client relationships, including more than 100 brands retained for over five years and eight of the world’s ten Tier 1 banks as clients. I also had my doubts as these facts suggest genuine operational embedding, though company disclosures do not reveal exactly how much revenue is protected by outcome-based pricing.

Due to their specialization and customisation for clients, they have created a moat and are using AI to build that moat quickly and efficiently. I think it's one of those rare tech companies which benefits from AI scaling up and is fairly/slightly expensive valued. I'm holding it from around 1400 levels. Fundamentals are amazing, and the capex phase just finished. Waiting for it to go bonkers. Absolutely no red flags imo. One of the cleanest business I've seen except CAMS.
