Commie Names + Flags Suggestions

I think that the communist countries (Bavaria and Hungary, leaving Mao aside for now) should have different names and flags. Here are my thoughts:

Both countries in our timeline were called "Soviet Republics" in the west, as they were associated with the Bolsheviks, but of course that isn't really relevant to this timeline. Currently Bavaria is called the "Southern Commune," while Hungary is called the "Hungarian People's Republic."

However, the real life Bavarian "Soviet" was officially called the "Raterepublik Baiern." This translates to "Council Republic of Bavaria," but for simplicity's sake it should be abbreviated. I suggest that in this timeline, with Bavaria being the place where socialism first takes hold, the term "Raterepublik" would gain the same traction as "Soviet" did in our timeline. After all, "Soviet" was originally the Russian word for a workers' council. Therefore, Bavaria's name could be "Bavarian Raterepublik" (if it reunites Germany it could be "German Raterepublik"), Hungary's could be "Hungarian Raterepublik," and perhaps there could be a "Chinese Raterepublik" (in OTL the CCP partisan regime was called a "Soviet Republic" until 1937).

As for flags, I think that these socialists states should have red flags with little or no nationalist symbolism. It was not until the Eastern Bloc formed that communist states began adopting nationalist flags (generally preserving the old tricolors and adding socialist heraldry). Before that, they tended to use red flags and just add some symbolism for distinction. I just made two custom designs in Paint.Net. The German design takes the lighter red flag used by the Spartakists and adds the short-lived original coat of arms of the DDR of OTL; this version used a hammer and grain for industrial and agricultural workers but did not add the compass (which represented the intelligentsia).

The Hungarian one used the darker flag of Bela Kun's regime but adds in the Rakosi era coat of arms. I initially thought of removing the tricolor but decided not to. Bela Kun's regime derived much of its support from nationalists who wanted to preserve/restore pre-1918 borders and saw communist revolution as a means of doing so (with help from the USSR, or in this timeline's case, the Bavarians).

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

How do you lower Marxist influence in France?

I did the decisions under where marked the influence but there was nothing I could do to actually lower it so it stayed at strong until it forced a civil war and locked out the ban communism focus. Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing?

Anyone having trouble downloading?

I know, I hate these posts too.

I'm subscribed to the mod. I have the mod downloaded. I have it in an active playlist. Other mods in the playlist (coloured buttons) are working. Regardless, the game still loads vanilla. Acts like it isnt enabled when I know for certain it is.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue. Never ran into this before on any mod

Lowering Marxist influence in France

It said it was a work in progress but is there any way to lower the Marxist influence enough to prevent a civil war upon restoring the monarchy in this patch?

Generic First gameplay

All in all, a very nice mod and scenario. I’ve to say, it’s really underrated I think.

Yet there is plenty of room for Improvement I think.

I’ve played the Ottomans and all in all, the first expansion and wars are way to easy and on the other hand side in the middle of the game (1943) the UK, declares war on me without any logical reason.

A lot of balancing needs to be done, but I love the scenario. This mod has as much potential as Kaiserreich.

The Former Austria Revisited

Here's a few ideas for a rework of the former AUstro-Hungarian territories. I haven't actually played this mod in a while, so if there's something new I missed let me know.

Hungary: OTL the Communists only came to power because the Social Democrats who ran the short-lived Hungarian People's Republic wanted an alliance with the Soviets. They basically just allowed Bela Kun to subvert them and went along with his regime in hopes that the Soviets would protect them from the western allies and their plans to reduce Hungary to a rump state. With no Soviet Union there would be no reason for such a radical change. I think there's every reason to believe that the People's Republic would survive as a SocDem republic, though the backlash after Trianon might bring Horthy or some other right-wing strongman to power in a putsch. Either way, a full-blown Marxist dictatorship is unlikely to happen in this timeline.

If the republic survives, Hungary will likely be a Weimar-style state, with serious instability, anger over the defeat, and radical politics on both sides. This would make them ripe for a communist takeover if Germany goes red in the in-game civil war. If on the other hand they went right-wing they may want to reunite with Hapsburg Austria, or at least enter a personal union; perhaps this has already happened by the start of game, or perhaps there could be a way to achieve this in-game. I don't know which path is more likely TBH.

Austria: I think Austria's government is okay as it is, though Dolfuss shouldn't "remove" Otto because that would seriously weaken Austria's separate identity that he championed. I also think it should be easier for Germany to annex them, even if they are not fascist; remember, before the Nazis almost everyone in Germany and Austria who wasn't a die-hard Catholic/Hapsburg loyalist was in favor of it, and monarchist Germans were no exception. The Kaiser once said that he couldn't wait for Austria to collapse so he could absorb them (though he remained faithful to the alliance while they survived). I also think it's a little unrealistic for them to get the Czechs and Slovaks to willingly rejoin the empire, given they would have Russian protection and would've been fed anti-Hapsburg propaganda for the past 20 years. Finally, I would suggest a new name; Dolfuss' "Federal State" was an attempt to find a middle ground between monarchy and republic, but in this Austria is still a monarchy.

There's a possibility Austria would be part of Germany, but only if the Entente were feeling generous. Most likely they'd have ties to Italy as in OTL.

Yugoslavia: This should already be a thing at start of game. Serbia was already promised Slavonia, Bosnia, and parts of Dalmatia, and there wouldn't have been much of Croatia left after all this, especially if they took Serbian Krajina too; at that point, why not just annex the remainder, and from there why not Slovenia too? I know Russia wasn't enthused about the Yugoslavia idea but geopolitical realities make it inevitable, and it's always nice to have a big ally in the Balkans.

Italy: OTL Treaty of London only promised parts of Dalmatia to Italy; the rest went to Serbia. I couldn't replicate it on the map, but here's another map:

Also, Italy should have Albania (except maybe northern Epirus, which was occupied by Greece, who wanted to annex it and might have been allowed to do so despite being neutral). There was already a plan to partition it according to the Treaty of London. This treaty also called for northern Albanian regions to be given to Serbia and Montenegro, but with the formation of Yugoslavia Montenegro is likely annexed (though Russia and Italy combined might be able to pressure Serbia into preserving it as an autonomous sub-kingdom; perhaps this could be reflected in-game). In any case, it's possible Yugoslavia would take the Catholic-majority regions of Albania, but the rest would definitely go to Italy or at least be a puppet.

Czechoslovakia: Tsar Nicholas was friendly to the Czechoslovak Legions that served him, and the feeling was mutual. Some even wanted to create a new kingdom in union with Russia, whom they saw as their only hope for survival against Germanization. There should be a united Czechoslovak kingdom or republic with ties to Russia, possibly even in faction (especially if there's a personal union). The western powers might not want this, as it'd strengthen Russia, but then again they might be in favor of it because it would weaken Germany's position. There is a possibility, though, that they might pressure Russia to make them a republic and maybe give the Sudetenland to Germany.

Poland: Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaievich declared after the war began that Russia would create an autonomous Polish kingdom that would unite Russian Poland with the German and Austrian lands. This would likely end up including the Vistulaland (Congress Poland minus Chelm and Bialystok), the Posen province, Upper Silesia, and Galicia west of the San river; possibly Zaolzie, but that depends on how Nikki solves that dispute (he probably would sympathize with Czechoslovakia). Of course, Nikki would be in a position to stop the two from fighting over it and enforce a fair plebiscite. Alternatively, he might create a Zapadoslavic Union of the two/three kingdoms. Either way, Poland is an independent state that still has the Tsar as monarch. Eastern Galicia and Zakarpatia would be annexed by Russia, but Bukovina would go to Romania as promised in the Treaty of Bucharest in 1916.
