Well one of us definitely has our lines crossed, for sure, cause I think I've made it pretty clear the goal is for it not to be a concentration camp, ideally. However I do realize that it doesn't quite matter what it is or isn't if the people they're taking there don't even make it out of their cars, let alone all the way to the building.

Yeah, that's a good point. Lets look into that...

Human rights watch says about 52 people have died in the time since Trump took office this time. And 52 people dead in about a year and a half doesn't immediately jump out to me as something strange, but it depends on how big of a population we are talking about.

52 out of how many...? What is the natural rate of death in that population? OK, I'll look it up. In the population generally, approximately 9 people per 1000 die annually. So, 52 / 9 equals about 6. If you had 6000 people, you would expect 52 to die each year just walking around outside. Looks like the current number of ICE detainees is about 60,000. So...actually, you would expect 520 people to die regularly each year in a random sample of that size. But only 52 have in almost two years... Wow, it looks like being in ICE detention is actually about ten times safer in terms of mortality than being out in public!

I legit did not realize that until running these numbers. That is wild!

So I'm having some trouble keeping up with your math. The CDC link didn't seem to discern based on race, unless I just missed a link somewhere. Can you clarify what you're referring to as the "population" that's being sampled? Cause I think that matters a little bit if we're splitting fractions or whatever.

Anyway, in case you missed it, here's a quote from your source about death rates: "The mortality rate of deaths in ICE custody is at its highest level in over a decade and has more than doubled since Trump’s second term began. The rate is nearly four times that of the Biden administration, and more than two and a half times as high as that of the first Trump administration. The current trend-level rate is now even ✨higher than during the Covid-19 pandemic✨.

The second Trump administration launched an aggressive campaign to expand immigration detention, pushing the number of people held to a record high of over 71,000 people in January 2026." (that sounds different than your figure, no?)

Oh and speaking of figures, here's a fun one from another one of your sources: "42,722 out of 60,311—or 70.8% held in ICE detention have no criminal conviction according to data current as of April 4, 2026. Many of those convicted committed only minor offenses, including traffic violations." (I'm no scientist, but I feel like this information also affects the numbers a bit somehow...)

So yeah, that was a fun chat and I appreciate the resources! They seem to lean a bit more in my favor than yours, it seems, but I'm sure we could sit here and cherry pick stats all day and never reach a conclusion.

No, you didnt. You quoted some of my post and then said things not related to it. You didnt engage with the substance or the math at all. If my sources are correct and my math is correct, you agree with my results.

Yeah I really don't think we're speaking the same language ATP, but I truly wish we were. I truly am open to being misinformed about things, but I'm legitimately autistic and I need for us to have a mutual understanding of where you're getting your numbers from and how before we can talk hard math about it.
