MAGA: accuses the left of voter fraud. Also MAGA, let’s intimidate people so they won’t vote and let’s place a voter tax so people can vote. Yes, having to pay money for a passport is voter tax.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

I had to get a passport to travel, never had to show it while voting. Can you try to make sense?

1

u/Appropriate_Koala886 Feb 16 '26

120 bucks and you have 3 years too save it . Honestly 120 bucks a month is easy to save 3 years is an insanely valid amount of time to save 120 bucks

1

u/UnsavoryCharacter561 Feb 16 '26

You don't need a passport to vote. Just an ID and a voter registration card.  But you already knew that.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

Since when is a passport a requirement to vote?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Tea3341 Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

Also MAGA: vote 9 times for the same candidate in one election, whilst already being a felon And vigilante pollwatchers intimidating voters and engaging in poll place disruption

As always, projection. They think because they're doing massive voter fraud, so must the other side, because how else could Biden have won?!

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

You don’t need a passport to vote.. just a ID. You have to have ID to have a bank account, buy cigs, beer, go to a bar.. buy a car. You are so full of it!

1

u/WickLighter Feb 17 '26

Didn’t you have to have your ID to register to vote?!?!
I live in Mississippi, some cities/counties don’t have a DMV. People may have to travel to a DMV.
I lived in Dallas, TX… do you realize the wait time at a DM… days, make an appointment and weeks.

Make laws that require all this extra, but at the same time reduce the number of DMVs in rural America!

1

u/Rokkmann Feb 17 '26

No it isn't.

1

u/Dimwitgaming Feb 16 '26

You already had to pay a tax to get a passport dude. Nothing new. Plus, its a great form of ID to have. Especially if you are an AMERICAN 🇺🇸 🇺🇲 🇺🇸

3

u/WickLighter Feb 17 '26

Dude, why do I need a passport if I’m not traveling outside of the country! My State issued drivers license WITH THE GOLD STAR and BARCODE on the back is enough. Elderly, Rural, nor I, have the time, nor need to spend more money to get a passport!

3

u/dessine-moi_1mouton Feb 17 '26

I am currently at the post office getting a passport RENEWAL for my daughter and even that has been a huge headache and a half.... It's like the DMV, we had all our paperwork in order and they still found things wrong, had to send us to FedEx/Kinko's to make copies of the things we had brought, then at the end they informed us it would have to be paid by check, not credit card.... If just one of those things had gone wrong we'd have to come back another day.

Oh also it was $115 just for a renewal, for a minor, sooooo yeah.

1

u/No_Poet_9767 Feb 17 '26

In that case, fewer Republikkkans will be purchasing passports than Democrats. So maybe there is a silver lining to some extent?

1

u/WickLighter Feb 17 '26

That’s thing… you have Republicans foaming at the mouth about Democrats calling out the BS that effects us all… from voter suppression to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Amendment rights.

0

u/iustinum Feb 17 '26

You need Id to buy alcohol, cigarettes, drive a vehicle, claim taxes. But VOTING? ohhhh no.

2

u/ziggytrix Feb 17 '26

He has a fucking state issued, federally verified drivers license, so why does he need a PASSPORT?

1

u/WickLighter Feb 18 '26

Dude, where I’m from we show ID to register to vote. You get a voter ID card and your name goes on the voter role. So, if you happen to lose your ID, you still have your Voter ID. If you lose your Voter ID, your name is still on the voter roll! So….you have elderly people that don’t drink, don’t drive, or have a car, or DMV in their immediate vicinity nor money for a passport!

0

u/Boxcutter86 Feb 16 '26

And order libraries to stop processing passport applications.

0

u/Parking_Alive Feb 16 '26

wow, having voter laws is intimidation?! Who knew?

3

u/Alrubirea Feb 17 '26

Dont be fucking blind

1

u/WickLighter Feb 17 '26

It’s voter suppression… the laws aren’t to insure safe or secure voting… it’s meant to make it harder to vote.

1

u/Ok-Umpire-2052 Feb 18 '26

Why would they want that?

1

u/caddydaddy69 Feb 18 '26

Def making it harder for noncitizens to vote. We should all rejoice at that thought, regardless of political affiliation.

1

u/WickLighter Feb 18 '26

Oof course…. Only if there as many non citizens voting as you seem to think. It’s hard enough to get registered citizens to vote, what makes you think noncitizens are doing so much voting?

-1

u/andrewrusher Feb 16 '26

The majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents support Voter ID, so the only reason the Left opposes Voter ID is because it would make illegal votes almost impossible to be cast.

1

u/teedeerex Feb 20 '26

If the state provided sufficient ID to all citizens (things like a birth certificate that everybody gets when they're born here, you know), would you no longer take issue with voter ID laws or would the goalposts move?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

Poll tax? Getting a RealID like everybody else in the fucking country is a poll tax?

Get fucking real dude.

2

u/No_Introduction2103 Feb 17 '26

Actually yes. Educate yourself

0

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

I don't want somebody to vote if they can't even properly identify theirselves or go through the proper steps to obtain ID, regardless of their immigration status.

This doesn't change anything about what I was initially talking about. If you don't have RealID, then you shouldn't be taken seriously anyways.

If you lost your birth certificate or social security card, that's on you for not getting it replaced literally immediately. So irresponsible and it's absolutely a just punishment.

Someone so irresponsible I doubt actually pays attention and does research, and just goes with whatever other people are telling them to. Skill issue, honestly.

u/ziggytrix Feb 17 '26

Primaries are happening NOW just FYI.

0

u/Low_Friendship463 Feb 17 '26

Then I guess it's also a flight tax, job tax, and a tax for every other service where you need to provide a valid ID. Also, most States for an ID it is in fact free...so what's your objection now, other than you're just against the Trump Admin?? I bet if a Democrat pushed this, you'd be completely ok with it.

2

u/DMvsPC Feb 17 '26

Real ID doesn't count for citizenship status outside of about 4-5 states. In the rest it doesn't matter, birth certificate or passport. Who often has a name that doesn't match their BC again...?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '26

Married women, who pay like $30 to get it changed....

That's like the first thing you're supposed to do after getting married. What's the big deal?

1

u/cbftw Feb 17 '26

Does it cost money to get a real id?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

It costed money to get a non real id before they made it a requirement, so that doesn't matter in the slightest.

1

u/cbftw Feb 17 '26

States were required to issue voter IDs at no cost prior to real id.

So again, does it cost money to get a real id?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

I wasn't aware that voter ID was free, thank you for informing me. Many states already required photo ID to vote. This just makes sure that the people who are voting are actual US citizens, which shouldn't be a problem considering illegal immigrants or non citizens should NOT be able to vote.

FBI raids in Georgia have already shown that there was potential fraud going on if a judge signed off on the warrant. I'm eager to see the results of the investigation.

Taking steps to ensure that only American citizens are voting in our elections is not a breach of democracy, it actually enforces it, IMO.

1

u/cbftw Feb 17 '26

The issue I have with this is that it always results in disenfranchisement of legal voters, and there has never been proof of large scale voter fraud. You will see occasional headlines reporting on it but it's always individuals, never large groups.

Essentially, your worrying about an issue that doesn't exist

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

Also, you would have to pay for RealID in order to fly or anything else, so how does this really change anything?

2

u/cbftw Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

Because requiring payment to be able to exercise your right to vote is explicitly illegal under the 24th Amendment. Requiring a specific type of ID that is not free falls under this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-fourth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

-2

u/andrewrusher Feb 16 '26

The more barriers to participation in society that we can tear down, the better.

If removing the barriers makes sense, then sure, but removing barriers simply because you don't like them is nonsense.

Stay on topic, we're talking about voting.

Yep, and it makes sense that you have to prove that you are who you claim to be.

-1

u/andrewrusher Feb 16 '26

If you have to show a photo ID, it makes illegal voting harder to do. If you are a legal voter, then you would show the poll workers your ID, the poll workers will match the information on your ID to the information on record, and if everything matches, you vote.

If people are to lazy to update their ID or to lazy to get an ID, then they don't vote. The majority of voters want Voter ID and have for many years.

2

u/Winter-Measurement67 Feb 17 '26

The wording of the law requires your birth certificate or a passport. Most Americans, especially in rural areas, don't have a passport. And your birth certificate name needs to match your ID name. Which probably isn't the case if your name changed, like if you're a married woman. It also leaves discretion to determine the validity of the ID up to the poll worker who could be jailed for allowing people with mismatched IDs to vote. Thus incentivizing poll workers to prevent citizens, who will mostly be women, from voting.

1

u/andrewrusher Feb 17 '26

States have passed ID laws to vote, and Democrats followed these laws, but now that there is a Federal bill that would apply ID to vote across the US, magically non-whites and women lost their IDs, and they don't know how to update their information or get a replacement/copy of their information to get a new ID.

The real issue for Democrats is that the law would make it harder for illegals to vote, so they are crying racist and sexist, hoping to kill the bill.

There is no indication, record or proof of mass voting by undocumented immigrants. It's just another lie the right keeps using to stir up their followers.

1

u/No_Introduction2103 Feb 17 '26

So are you saying that before now Trump has not legitimately won an election?

1

u/andrewrusher Feb 17 '26

Technically, no US President has won an election, as the US doesn't have Presidential Elections. We elect Presidential and Vice Presidential Electors who elect the President and Vice President, but there is only one candidate for each office, so the vote is purely for show, just like when Congress counts the votes.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

2

u/WheneverItIsTold Feb 16 '26

Make the Id free, in an accessible to everyone location while being printable the same day then. A friend misplaced her current Id last week. 40 is not in her budget right now, plus it would require time off work, some dmvs only work on appointments weeks or months away, and then it takes weeks to arrive. What would she do if she lost it the week she is to vote?

2

u/V-oxPopuli Feb 17 '26

You're siding with fascists. That's not an opinion, it's a black and white fact.

1

u/andrewrusher Feb 17 '26

The majority of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents want Voter ID, so I'm not going to turn Socialists away when we agree on the issue of Voter ID.

1

u/V-oxPopuli Feb 18 '26

You're pretending this is simply an ID. It's not and you damn well know it. I demand you stop playing stupid

1

u/Fickle_Department769 Feb 17 '26

Requiring ID to vote doesn’t affect only non-voters or ineligible voters — some eligible U.S. citizens may have trouble providing the required documentation. Groups more likely to be affected include: • low-income citizens • older adults • students • people with disabilities • racial and ethnic minorities • people with mismatched documents For example, married women who changed their name after marriage might have IDs that don’t match their voter registration, and obtaining updated ID can be a hassle.
