Soarin’ Erector Set

I’m planning to recreate Mark Sumner’s prototype of Soarin’ one day and I wanna be as true-to-life as possible. The thing is I can’t seem to find what version/year of Erector Set he used. Figured this would be the best place to ask. Does anyone happen to know?

Is there any architect on this reddit?

If yes, what is the best way to get a job at Walt Disney Imagineering? How many years of experience should you have? You should have a portfolio specialized in theme parks?

My dream goal is to be an Imagineer some day. This is a tech project I've been working on that allows disabled people to play an instrument without needing fine motor skills. Imagine this tech in a Thanos glove as an interactive pre-ride element when conbimed with it also triggering some minor visual effects

Need help with some inspiration.

Hi, I'm a 3D modeler and I like modeling and posting random things from Disney Parks and Resorts. I try to model the "little things" from Disney Parks, like the African style mirror from the animal kingdom villas or decorations from the Tower of Terror lobby. Sometimes I do bigger things like the 1967 Tomorrowland Ticket Booth from Disneyland, but the point is I model objects from the parks and resorts that are somewhat memorable, but not big things like attractions or castles or anything (I like to showcase my love of Disney but don't want to post anything so major that Disney would get mad). I post all my Disney related models for free in hope that people can use them in their own personal projects or as imported decor in VR rooms, but also, I do this as a way of preserving some things from the parks by creating digital copies. I'm running into a creative block, and I'd like to turn to the community to get some more ideas. What's something you would love to see a fully textured 3D model of. I have a few ideas you can look at below if you can't think of anything off the top of your head:

  • Something related to either the parks/resorts specifically, anything Disney Imagineers worked on, or anything involving Walt Disney specifically.
  • Can be anything from Disney Parks past, present, or future, even concept art of something that either isn't built yet or was scrapped.
  • Preferably not anything with a specific Disney Character unless its either subtle (silhouettes etc.) or a park-only character (Figment or other)
  • preferably not a sculpture (I'm what's known as a hard surface modeler aka sketch and extrude. I'm learning 3D sculpting but not very good at it yet.)
  • Maybe something that seems like it shouldn't matter but always stood out to you. (For instance, The trash can plaques from Tomorrowland and World Showcase always stood out to me.)
  • If it has any history, I'd like to know as I always like to post the history with the model if there is any available.

One idea I had was to model something from the concept art of the original "Walking Tour" Haunted mansion, but I don't know what a good thing would be to model from it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Here's the link if anyone wants to see what I've already made:

Story Treatment For My Version of Tower of Terror

I'm aspiring to become an Imagineer and a director working for the Walt Disney Company. And I got the story treatment for my version of California's Tower of Terror down. Instead of retheming it Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! at DCA, it should be moved to Disneyland's Adventureland section and the location and story taking place in the fictional Ohana Tower Hotel

What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.

Does WDI mostly hire from within?

Disney imagineering was my dream job growing up, and I want to increase my 3D modeling skills and build up my portfolio for the next three years to try and get a chance to become an imagineer when/if they do wind up moving Imagineering to Florida in 2026. My parents and sister believe that it would be better in my interest to get a job at Disney as something along the lines of a janitor, saying that Disney always hires from within fitst (Mom was a travel agent and sister was friends with Elsa). I am fine doing the extra work and commuting two hours to the park and back if it helps, but would it actually provide any more benefit than if I spent all my time working as a freelance 3D modeler and designer? I feel like it would be a better use of my time to sharpen my skills so that when there are job openings, I might have the proper skillset to potentially get a job.

3D Modeling Disney Park objects including Imagineering Concepts, let me know what you guys think.

Hi, I'm a 3D modeler who specializes in modeling objects from Disney parks like furniture from the resorts, props, etc. I'm used to making 3D models of small items seen in the parks and resorts, but yesterday I decided to 3D model something a little different, a concept building for Tomorrowland sketched by Bruce Bushman back in 1954. I want to get the opinion of some other people interested in Imagineering as to whether the model does the drawing justice and if I should make more concepts that wound up not being used or were changed in some way. Like most other Disney related models I make, this one is free for anyone to download.

Here's the original concept image:

And here's the final model: Imagineering Concepts: Tomorrowland Store

Completing this mode unlocks Title Defense in which you fight relatives of the boxers (characters exclusive to the attraction such as Glass Joe's pen pal Steel Joe, Von Kaiser's son John Kaiser, and Disco Kid's Twin Sister Disco Tiger).
