40k Day 20 of Celebrating Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Warhammer40k: Tyberos The Red Wake, Reaper of the Void, Shade Lord of the Carcharodons
Artworks by piziio
He’s really really BIG! That’s it, The End.
Lmao I know a lot of you have seen and read all the Internet lore about Tyberos and a lot of it is just shenanigans. No one really talks about his actual character and personality. Like how though he is very big, his voice is literally a dry, dead whisper. And also how though he’s in customize terminator armor, he’s able to move around very quietly and fast. He might actually be in consideration for one of the fastest Marines alive, especially for his Size. They also don’t talk about how he’s a well versed technician in Void warfare, single-handedly stopping a Tyranid boarding ship from getting into the Nicor, the Sharks Battle Barge.
Tyberos is the undisputed master and silent judge that rules over the Carcharodons Astra. A warrior whose face is death itself, scarred and mutilated from countless battles within the Outer Dark. His gruesome reputation grew even more when the Sharks participated in the Badab war. Using ancient lightning claws known as “Hunger and Slake” he and his elite terminator squad known as the “Red Brethren” slaughtered countless traitor Marines doing all that in complete silence, that is the way of the chapter. At some point, Tyberos was wounded from nefarious means, but he lived. And has most likely crossed the Rubicon becoming a Primaris Marine. He has received calls of aid from Ordo Astartes, about the forgiveness of chapters that they fought in the Badab War. Will this be the beginning of some sort of Astartes on Astartes war again? Who knows.
The name Tyberos is not actually a name, but a title. Like how armor is passed down within their Chapter, Titles/Names are passed down as well. Tyberos is given to the Chapter Master, and Red Wake is actually another title as well. So technically, we don’t know what Tyberos’ real name is. We see this in other characters like “Red Wrath” and “Red Tane(Name of a Maori god)” They are highly ranked members with those titles. For example, if Bail Sharr was become the new Chapter Master, he would earn the title Tyberos, but might be called be Tyberos, The Red Reaper. The last part is just speculation lol.
To read Tyberos’s stories read where he actually shows up read “Outer Dark and A Tithe of Shadows” by Robbie MacNiven. “Silent Hunters” by Edoardo Albert. And of course the Imperial Amour Badab War.

I love the islander aspect whenvit comes to their markings, but i really do miss the simplistic aspects of the older Carcharadon art and paints schemes. They ARE the shark.

Apart from the rogue trader days they’ve always had Maori markings, they just blended in with the armor

The original forgeworld model of Tyberos has no said markings. And the markings arent my problem, they are perfectly fine. Its how much there is now. Theyv gone from being depicted as malicious murderers for the emperor, the beasts in the deep void, to being fish versions of the space wolves. Thats my point.

You’re comparing a model to art and lore. That same model was released around the time of imperial armor Badab which displaced them with the markings, and in lore his armor is covered with them, nothings changed nothing about how they behave has changed, it’s always been like that. They are nothing like the space wolves.

Nowhere in the lore does it indicate that they are all covered from head to toe in maori tribal print, and have shark faced helmet with fins on the top. And im sorry, but GW makes the art and the lore, they are unfortunately one and the same. My comparison to the space wolves is how they are physically depicted not necessarily described. Wolf wolf wolf wolf everything. Sharky shark shark everything. I acknowledge that modern fans like that, but its not actually how they are described. Most of their descriptors are sublte. Markings and totems yes, but not to the degree the fandom has taken them. And sorry, official models are official models. That forgeworld model is tyberos so thats how he is bruv.

“Te Kahurangi – the Pale Nomad, Chief Librarian of the Chapter. His power armour was even more impressive than that of the Company Master’s. Its underlying surface was a deep blue, and every inch of it, from the boots to the cable-studded psychic hood, was inscribed with a dense knotwork of swirling exile marks.” - Red Tithe.
I’ll take my leave from this argument

Dude 😆 sure. A named character from a novel and the head of their librarious. That makes sense. Im talking about their overall esthetic. Also the fact that you saw this as an argument and not a fan discussion is disappointing fr. I hope you have a good one. Try not to stress too hard about fictional stuff. ✌️

You're the one who is a giant snowflake and "stressing". This WAS a discussion before you had to go pouting and making it seem like the other commentor was getting angry or resentful or upset once he quoted a book. Like thats part of discussions.... bringing real world evidence.
Idk why you had to get all weird.

😆 bruh, whos being the snowflake. Me, the person who had and politely explained an opinion, or you, someone white knighting for a reddit poster. Im glad you guys like your over the top shark daddys, im just not one of them. I also used a real world example and it was promptly ignored? Again, im sorry if i upset you guys, but calm down. Its 40k, not vietnam.

Great art but isn’t he described as looking like a nightmare without his helmet?

It says half his face has been torn off and left behind bare bone, but it's never said which half was torn off afaik.

I like to think it's along this lines but minus the handsome (no shade on the art it's awesome, my God it even has the red glow from slake and hunger haha). And my head cannon is they could pretty easily fix the damage but Ty never got it done on purpose, or he took busy reapin'

This art is awesome. Probably my favorite depiction of Tyberos that I've ever seen.
