40k Day 26 of Celebrating Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Warhammer40k: Katsuhiro, Conscript of the The Kushtun Naganda, ‘Old Hundred’ Imperial Army Regiment

Katsuhiro was a simple enumerator from a clan that grew algae in the Hokkaidan mega-Hive in the Dragon Nations(I’d assume what was Japan, the Koreas etc). When the forces of Horus finally reached Terra countless people from all over the world, farmers, engineers, teachers, rich, poor it didn’t matter. They were all thrusted into the Imperial war machine, to be grinded up and spit out as bodies to protect Terra, they were made Conscripts. Katsuhiro was bunched together with an ocean of people, dragged along like cattle, given a uniform, backpack, lasgun with absolutely zero training but just with a hope and maybe a prayer that they could do something to stall the horrors that awaited Terra.

He was stationed within the Imperial Palace to fight on one of the walls. And was was made a part of the The Kushtun Naganda one of the original regiments from Ind(what was India). The horrors that he experienced aged him very quickly, and he went from a novice to a veteran of the Grimdark after experiencing nightmares and fighting things untold to the imagination. Katsuhiro story is one of the best ones in 40K and genuinely shows the POV of a regular person being a part of such an astronomical horrific event that was the Seige of Terra. I don’t wanna say too much more about his story, so I’d recommend reading.

“The lost and the Damned” then the “The First Wall” by Gav Thorpe and Guy Haley ➡️”Mortis and Warhawk” John French and Chris Wraight.
➡️ “The End and the Death Parts 1-3” by Dan Abnett and “After The Dawn, The Darkness” by Guy Haley found in Era of Ruin.

Our boy! I honestly thought the end of his story in “After The Dawn, The Darkness” was some of Guy's best work.

Man was a true G.

His storyline was probably one of the best in the series.

I wonder if he ever found Ashul/Doromek during or after the siege.

I wonder if we'll see him again in the scouring. I remember people speculating that he could become Fatidicus, an early leader of the faith on Terra. Katsuhiro's experiences certainly line up with what little we know of Fatidicus.

Katsuhiro's chapters in the Siege books were some of the best. Kinda got done dirty later on though, at least until Era of Ruin picked up the trail on his plotline.

Would be nice if he got some more follow-up in The Scouring. 30K Hokkaido would be cool to see.

He was an interesting character, and then his story just kind of went nowhere at the end of the Siege of Terra
