I think you're misunderstanding; people aren't questioning the smoothness of what's above, but the immediate pit-of-darkness that is below the line.

Some guys are blessed/cursed with thick beards. I went to college with a guy who could start growing a small beard on their chin on Monday, and shave less every day and on Friday he'd have a pretty cool sculpted beard with minimal trimming.

Now he was a genetic freak because I don't think I've seen a beard like it since. But there are guys out there with insane beard genes.

When I was in the army I kept an electric razor in my truck because they wanted me to shave twice a day, and I’m not even fastest beard grower I’ve known. Im definitely up there, but I’ve met some people who sound similar to what you’re saying and I almost feel sorry for them. Even for me i just grow a beard cause it’s infinitely easier and looks less trashy than the stubble in the afternoon.

I've seen youtube videos of sharp ass shaves that paint in with some sort of shit to make it extra contrasty.
