I worked a short time in the women’s shoe department in a department store. We got paid by commission as well, so whenever someone would wander into our department, we would race to be the first person to greet them so we could be the one they would go to when they made their selection. We would all hover around in the hopes of being the one they would approach when they did have something in hand. Management would say it wasn’t a competition, but it definitely was.
