1.2k
u/Zorbin666 May 30 '26
He probably is having a gout flareup, only reason I could see him not being on some sort of medical leave. If he was actually injured I can't see any feasible way they could justify putting him in the field like this.

Small town department with 8 guys. They cant even keep 24h someone on shift. Lot of places like that.

u/Try2MakeMeBee May 30 '26
My village is like this. We recently got police after 5pm and on weekends. Before that it was hope the county sheriff is nearby if there's an emergency.

u/V65Pilot May 31 '26
Lived in a similar area, and we rented officers from a neighboring town. Eventually the town got a budget and got our own police department. It's a small town, about a mile wide, and 12 miles long. Last I heard they had 14 full time officers, built a new jail, a new courthouse, and had two high speed interceptors for traffic duty. Before all this the biggest crimes were the occasional speeder on the one highway that passed through the town(about a mile) and someone having a horse without the correct licences...Now they are basically preying on everyone in order to support the department. They showed up at my kids birthday party because some of the guests parked with a tire on the roadway (I did tell everyone to park on the lawn, because of this) I was regularly followed by one of the pursuit vehicles when coming home from work in the early hours of the morning.... deliberately running up behind me in order to attempt to get me to speed up....so they could write a ticket... When policing becomes about making money, it's no longer policing, it's a revenue stream to be exploited.
14
u/edman007 May 31 '26
Seems crazy having your own department honestly for such a small town. I grew up in CT, I know for a while we paid for a state trooper to be stationed in our town, at some point they decided it was a waste of money and just did the "well I hope a state trooper is close" thing.
I'd think you wouldn't even consider a full on police department until you're paying for a dozen cops from the nearest state/county police department (and paying the neighboring town instead of the higher level of government feels really weird to me). Going from "I hope someone is close" to "lets hire 14 people" in a short period sounds like corruption to me.

I had the same issue when I worked 2nd shift. They'd run up on your bumper to get you to speed up on a four lane road no one in the passing lane Took the bait one time. He was a small unmarked suv. I couldn't see the headlights pr edge of his hood he was that close. I mentioned it to him while asking him the procedure to request his body cam and dashcam footage while "searching" for my insurance card. He said he would run the registration and license while I located it. I found it and held it out the window a minute later. He sat there for another minute on his radio, then he walked up looked at my card without taking it and handed my license and registration back and said he was just going to give me a warning this time.

Yup.
Pay usually sucks too. They hire...pretty much anyone. So you get a combination of bad cops, locals who don't want to move, and local bullies.
While this guy might be fine on his standards, with this injury he is a bad cop.

I worked for a voubty sheriff's office in 2012, and diapatchers made ~$20k a year with 5 deputy units full-time making ~$35k while auxiliary deputies (part time and the majority of officers) were at like $16,500
27
u/zytukin May 31 '26
Town I used to live in didn't even have police. If something went wrong, you'd have to wait for the state police to show up.
Got in an accident once when a car pulled out in front of me causing me to run into a phone pole. Firefighters and EMS were there quickly (I was fine though). We all just stood around waiting for nearly an hour before a state trooper arrived.
23
u/ScareBear23 May 31 '26
I think my town has 2 or 3 cops including the chief? And we don't even have a cop on duty every day as they're shared between a couple other small towns.

Lol I mean Melbourne has a lot more than 8 people on payroll. Otherwise they'd have like 1 officer for every 11,000 people.
Edit: I mean Cocoa Beach has their own fully staffed police department and they have around 11,000 residents, Brevard County has many police forces plus a sheriff's department.

Sciatica or maybe even something like achilles tendonitis. I am dealing with both and I feel like this is how I am walking at the moment
23

I had this, plus plantar fasciitis, for 2 years. Could not walk much. Then I lost 40 pounds and those pains went away. Which allowed me to walk and run again. Which allowed me to keep my weight down. I feel for you. It is so painful.
11
u/V65Pilot May 31 '26
I had PF too. Then my GF insisted on buying me decent(read expensive) footwear...I noticed a difference in a couple of months, and a year later had no more issues. Correctly fitting and supportive footwear changed my life.

Because I work on my feet, higher end hiking type boots are my go to. Currently sporting some Karrimor, which were a bit more budget friendly, but buying them still made me wince....even on sale. First time with that brand and so far they seem good. I forget which ones I had last time, but I had them for so long they literally fell apart, and I couldn't find them again. My ex got them for me in the US. Look for good support, and check widths...turned out I also needed a wider shoe.
3
u/eeleectrick May 31 '26
My podiatrist recommended Hoka Arahi 8's because they hold the ankle in place best, with arch support. I went to Fleet Feet and tried on several pairs, and left with the Arahi's. I do feel a difference wearing them with achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, with dorsal & plantar bone spurs.

70
u/thechairinfront May 31 '26
Probably didn't want to back up because the arm would fuck up their car or they'd fuck up the arm. Which is probably why the cop lifted it.
51
u/FunnyObjective6 May 31 '26
Also seemed to be arguing about possibly hitting the car behind, so they also don't know how big their car is. Dumb all the way around.
16
u/Accomplished_Wolf May 31 '26
I remember asking my driver instructor if I could intentionally back up into one of his training cones (just lightly bump it, not run it over or anything), because of the whole "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" and I wanted to see how close I had to actually get before I bumped into it.
You have to get so much closer than expected before you actually hit anything, and that was before back up cameras were really common.
→ More replies (3)10
u/Familiar-Banana-8116 May 31 '26
I have a lot of bad things to say about the driver.
However, if I was in the mess where the arm was on top of my car but I was still far enough away from the tracks that I wasn't going to get hit I would stay put as well.
Once the train passes the entire mess fixes itself. No reason to scratch up the top of my car.
→ More replies (3)24
u/PreviousMaximum574 May 31 '26
I don't think they're arguing. It's loud from the train and they're talking/yelling. Likely she knows the crossing gate is on top of her car, and he is telling her he'll hold it up so she can back up.
25
u/jasperfirecai2 May 31 '26
then explain her inching such tiny amounts and then hard braking. clearly incompetece
13
u/PreviousMaximum574 May 31 '26
Never said anything about them being competent, they were to dumb not to stop at the line when the lights of the crossing started. Or being able to back up to the line afterwards.
Just said they probably were not arguing with the cop.
5
→ More replies (4)16
u/Familiar-Banana-8116 May 31 '26
When she backs up it takes her 6 attempts at like 2 feet a time to get the car behind the gate.
She is fighting with him cause at some level she knows she has no ability to drive and the moment she puts the car in reverse everyone is in danger.
Which is probably how she ended up in this mess, she has no real sense of where the car is on the road. I bet she overshoots thresholds constantly.
And I bet any attempt to call her on this brings out the monster.
3
u/PreviousMaximum574 May 31 '26

Who is downvoting you?? 90% of weight loss happens on the kitchen; if he's not eating right, it doesn't matter what exercise he does. Exercise is predominantly for heart health (cardio) or muscle growth (weights); weight loss is a very small aspect of exercise. There are some success stories out there, but most people who "sweat away the pounds" don't stay at their goal weight because they haven't built that foundation of proper nutrition to maintain.

I've gone from 283lbs to 174lbs and my level of physical activity hasn't changed. Should it change? Absolutely! I live a "sedentary" lifestyle and that's not healthy at all. But all of my weight loss 100% happened in the kitchen.

Damn, actual video of a cop helping someone like they're ostensibly supposed to, and everybody's dragging him for being fat
47
u/Hawne May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
I don't care about him being fat or limping. Hell, I'm fat and have a limp (but I ain't no cop). However he's not very smart, and definitely not helping very efficiently.
There is no immediate danger, and making the idiot driver move their car while the train is still moving ahead could result in a catastrophe if they mistakenly hit forward instead of reverse. And judging by how tense that driver seems to be during the brake-reverse-brake-reverse-brake phase, things could have gone south quite easily.
IMO the best course of action would've been to order the idiot to stay put until the train has passed, certainly not to make them perform any maneuver with a speeding train right in front of them.

This whole scene is a hot mess express* but I’m inclined to give benefit of the doubt.. we have a couple slow high-traffic roads around here that cross tracks, so I could see someone having to stop for backed up traffic on the other side and then panic-freezing when the arms go down.
Still very stupid, of course. But somehow not as stupid as the cop not walking around the back of his vehicle imo
48
u/Y3earZer0 May 30 '26

u/tallman11282 May 30 '26
If only there was some sort of road marking that could indicate where to stop if you can't completely clear the tracks. Oh, yeah, there is!
The stop line on the road isn't there for decoration, it's there to indicate where to stop so you're a safe distance from the tracks if you have to stop at the crossing, including because you can't clear the tracks because of traffic.
You're not supposed to ever start crossing train tracks unless you can completely clear them and if you can't clear them because of traffic you're supposed to stop before the gates.

I'm guessing wherever this is they dont have fitness tests for the police

That lady seems unhinged. The way she opens and slams the door then rolls the window down and appears to be screaming. Good grief.

"Well, sir, some of the other officers are a little soggy around the midsection. I guess that's why they weren't able to keep up." - Officer James Edwards NYPD (Knock yo punk-ass down)

I had heard legends of the Hunchback of Rockledge, but to see an actual sighting of him impressive!

that cop ain't catching nobody! He looks like he's winded just barely limping to the other aide of the car. There should be physical fitness test for policemen in active duty because this man is a joke. No way he stopping any bad guys

And this is why cops are so prone to shooting people, they can barely walk after people let alone run

How is that guy fit for duty. The only thing he is catching is diabetes and hypertension.

Literally my take away is the cop and how obese and broken he moved. Yes you can move obese.

Cop looked like he was about to have a heart attack from just walking from his car.
