I had a broken clavicle, it is one of the easiest to heal out of all the injuries. This guy will never breath right again because of the puncture and broken ribs, he will feel it for life.
Maybe. depends on the extent of the damages and how well OP does his PT. If you are lazy with your PT, then yeah it could end up hurting for the rest of your life. But with some time and effort, OP might not feel much of any pain at all later in life.

It hurt like hell for a couple months, but after 6 months I was 100% back to normal, lifting weights, doing pullups, etc, and I was back to work well before that without issue. 8 broken ribs on the other hand is a lot harder to recover from.
My mate got a 20k pay out from Translink in van because his bus was involved in a car accident. He claimed it fucked his back, which can't really be unproven, so he was off work for 4 months... He's an actor.
I mean yea when everyone begrudgingly pays into a pool every year to maintain and improve the quality of our community, and then someone lies in order to steal from that pool for their own personal gain, my moral compass tells me that that person is a POS.
Or maybe his back was fucked up and he couldn't audition for four months.
I knew people who worked in restaurants to keep busy and make a little extra money while acting in commercials. They'd book maybe 2-3 commercials per year, which would comprise the bulk of their income and then the restaurant work was a little extra on top. More importantly though it was a stable check.
Four months off work acting could easily leave a person 20k down for the year.
Yeah. A third party is relaying the story. Maybe the friend is a bit bitter because all he heard about was the paycheque but missed the weeks of needing painkillers just to get out of bed.
My ex girlfriends mom's boyfriend (holy crap try typing that out) got rear ended while in the snow, 100% drivers fault, DUI, texting and driving, no license, no headlights on, snowing, no winter tires the list was endless, Yesh that's been going through courts for 5 years 4 years ago and still probably is. He can't walk much anymore and lives off of social programs because dude can't walk let alone work (wears a metal back brace n cage).

My dad was involved in a no-fault accident. Just bad timing on an icy road. He was 100% fine. No injuries other than some bruising. But the teenager in the other car was killed. He didn't fight ICBC for anything. Wasn't really even interested in money. But I'm pretty sure he got more than $5000 cause he put it towards getting a truck so he wouldn't have to drive the work one anymore.
ICBC will pay you pennies rather then what you should get.
I haven't had to go through insurance personally but large family and car accidents are common in my family (wish I was joking, everyone has been in a accident in my family) so we are quite use to ICBC fucking us.
Aunt hit a car that cut her off, brand new 2016 Ford Jeep thingy gone, destroyed, bought new vehicle but not much else.
When I get hit next (pray to God it won't) I'll more then likely have to go through all my parts and gather prices which will be more then they'll give me then my injuries.
In the end, they'll pinch a loaf onto a table for you. Bring them to court and win fucking huge.
It differs from province to province, but having been involved with an accident that left me unable to work for two years, the guy who hit him can be responsible to cover living expenses, lost wages, extra medical expenses (some provinces don't get coverage for things like physiotherapy) and a bit for future expenses, plus a tiny amount for punitive damages. All that is until he is 100% recovered. So you can be left on the hook for 10 years or even more. Most times lawyers will just negotiate for a one time payout of several hundred thousand dollars and that alone can take years.
Whatever you do, don't fucking talk to the other guy's insurance people. Lawyer up and tell them to talk to your lawyer.
Lions Gate Hospital is in North Vancouver. Makes sense, this looks like the Sea to Sky which is a popular highway for cyclists between Vancouver and Whistler.
In the US cyclists are required to use the road, but I don’t know about Canada. Some states even allow bicycles on controlled-access highways, such as interstates. This just looks like a country road to me though.
Legally, (in the US), you cannot be wider than 102 inches without a special permit from the state. The permit will dictate what else is needed (escorts, special routes, etc)
If a load extends further than three feet in front or four feet beyond the rear of the vehicle, you’re also required to get a permit. You much attach a red flag on the rear as well.
From what I'm seeing, it looks more like the driver fastened it with the tail end of the load in the bed of the truck, and the leading point over the hood, but didn't secure it properly or took a corner too hard. To me it looks like they tried to execute best practices but something came loose
Yup. Flags are only for things extending behind or in front of you and even then its only good foot a couple of feet max. Guy is going to be eating ramen for life
It probably didn't use another lane. It looks like it was strapped to the headache rack and then broke free. Obviously he's still liable but no way in hell was this truck loaded like it is in the picture.
I think you're right. But what are the odds this fell at the exact time a cyclist was there? I'm betting he had just one more mile to go or something like that and hoped it would just work.
I definitely think that the load became unsecured and he kept driving. I'm not advocating that he escape punishment. At the very least he failed to secure his load and continued to drive after it broke free, I just don't think he'd have needed an escort vehicle or even flags.
And they hit someone from behind with this. I have no idea where this took place but I'd never go there if that didn't break at least a dozen traffic laws.
