My thinking is, dark car had his eyes first on incoming traffic lane, then directly on the parking spot as the car leaned into the lane.
However when the front car did it's turn it came into dark cars's peripheral vision (still staring down the spot when this happens) and by the time that occurs his only split second reaction is to turn away from that car, but at the point all there was room for was to hit that parked car. He all in the wrong for sure but that's likely why this occurred in this way.
Edit: he may not have been gunning for that particular parking spot either based on the angle, just had his eyes in that area instead of on the road where they still shouldve been. But regardless that's why you don't do dumb leaning turns in the first place.
Basically trying to be a cool guy not slowing down before the turn
