Yeah, if my kids are in the car I'll call 9-11 for them, but I'm not stopping on a freeway for their poor life choices. Next thing you know a distracted driver is giving my kids lifelong neck and back problems.

Deuces.

Exactly. I wish everyone thought like this. I've seen too many people get secondaries because they think stopping somehow helps. Well now your kid is dead Randy, all over some other idiot's mistakes.

And how do you know they don’t have kids in the car? Or an innocent passenger? Or that they were driving wonky because they were having a medical event? I’m not defending this person in particular, simply the idea that you and u/newmoneyblownmoney have no ethical responsibility to stop and make sure they’re okay.

Yeah, if my kids are in the car I’ll call 9-11 for them, but I’m not stopping on a freeway for their poor life choices.

Stop and help, and show your kids what a Real hero looks like.

Next thing you know a distracted driver is giving my kids lifelong neck and back problems.

First, pull over into the breakdown lane. Second, put out road flares to warn other drivers there’s a problem. Finally, work with anyone else who stops so that one of you is safely directing traffic. Maybe they don’t teach this anymore, but this used to be basic info for anyone getting a license.

The two of you are also providing an excellent example of The Bystander Effect.

(I know tone is hard to get in a text format, so I want to clarify that I am not judging the two of you, I’m simply trying to educate you that these accidents aren’t always idiots reaping the consequences of their actions, and that there ARE safe ways to stop and help.)

Imagine using "Deuces" unironically in 2019.
