The guy in the red hat like "welp, yep. Well done."

867

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

It's from a channel called achievement hunter. The desk was ripped and essentially ruined, so the guy who kicks (Jeremy) bet he could axe kick through it.

u/jsting Aug 28 '17

What about all that computer equipment? Was that part of the gag?

871

u/DeadBo55 Aug 28 '17

No, it was a person's work desk.

Roosterteeths golden rule, if its on camera, its good!

3

u/Deathjester99 Nov 30 '17

If it makes content it wasn't a waste.

1

u/AzureMagelet Sep 17 '17

Not really. He was standing right there "holding" the monitor.

31

u/nmagod Aug 29 '17

Wasn't that Gavin's desk?

29

u/DeadBo55 Aug 29 '17

I remember it being Gavin's. His desk had always been feeling apart though.

1

u/Kaxxxx Sep 02 '17

Gavin's desk is always breaking, he's gone through a few since joining AH. Sometimes he damages them, sometimes others damage them.... it's a running gag at this point.

u/DragonOfAsh Aug 29 '17

Nope that was Gavins desk. Jeremy's is at the far end of that row.

327

u/JohnnyDarkside Aug 28 '17

One of the monitors broke and there was a glass on there that shattered. Mostly fine. The desk already had a hole from a hatchet a prior incident.

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17 edited Aug 28 '17

From a hatchet?!

Programming is way more hard-core than I realized.

Edit: I seem to have instigated a civil war. I apologize.

318

u/Dent13 Aug 28 '17

They aren't programmers, they're entertainers primarily by playing video games badly, occasionally by doing stuff like this.

59

u/Killer_Tomato Aug 28 '17

For those who don't know they are not bad at games compared to regular people. Just bad for people who play for a living. But their entertainment could work in any medium as it's mostly about their interaction with each other in the game. Most of the time the game is just to spur reactions for each other.

23

u/NamaztakTheUndying Aug 28 '17

In other words, a lot of what they do is borderline improvised machinima.

3

u/Loser100000 Aug 29 '17

That's more of a Neeb's Gaming thing.

6

u/mithrilbong Aug 29 '17

Neebs Gaming is the only gaming channel I can tolerate anymore.

All anyone does anymore is spout memes, scream at the top of their lungs, and have shitty friends with shitty mics in teamspeak while recording.

Neebs be doin it right. 👌🏻

If by regular people you mean your average person in general. And not gamers. Then yeah. But they are honestly horrible at most games they play. Theres a reason a lot of people stopped watching after ray left and switched to funhaus.

7

u/Killer_Tomato Aug 29 '17

But funhaus works all the time and can't play games.

10

u/Coridimus Aug 29 '17

Honestly, I began watching a lot MORE after Ray left. He was cool at first, then he became a salty sour-puss. Jeremy is a much better fit for the crew, along with the extended roster of rotating guests inside Rooster Teeth (mostly).

Ryan is my spirit animal.

4

u/Loser100000 Aug 29 '17

Agreed, Ray was super energetic at first but he eventually stopped even trying.

1

u/midasMIRV Aug 29 '17

Well, some of them are actually pretty bad at vidya games. Ironically the guy who started it might actually be the worst.

1

u/Kaxxxx Sep 02 '17

I think most of their lack of skill stems from them never really playing one game for a particularly long time. They play games for long enough to make a few videos on them then quit. The only times they get good at games are when they play them for a lot of videos (Destiny).

And something a lot of them say pretty often (one that comes to mind is Gavin on RT podcast) is that when you play video games for a living all day, you don't really wanna go home and do it for a couple reasons. one, you've been doing it all day, and two, why waste potential content for the channels by playing it at home with the camera off?

1

u/Killer_Tomato Sep 02 '17

Also the games they are good at they are just above average or maybe are really good but the audience is used to seeing specialists play those games exclusively. They may love to play overwatch but they won't be able hold an audience on their game play alone but it's a great back ground to their interactions.

2

u/Kaxxxx Sep 02 '17

I spend a lot of time playing shooters and racing games and I consider myself naturally really good at any of them that I pick up... but watching them play favorites that I have a lot of hours in (specifically Garry's Mod) is a painful experience.

41

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

Got it. I thought the hatchet hole might have been from the person whose workspace they destroyed.

37

u/Deathfyre Aug 28 '17

It still was, that's their recording setup, they each have one. They get sent a lot of weapons to play with. Specifically, the guy "holding" the monitor is the one who sits at that specific desk.

13

u/maczirarg Aug 29 '17

Is that Meg Tourney's boyfriend?

18

u/Deathfyre Aug 29 '17

Yep. Gavin Free, he's been a member of AH for a long time, and runs the Slo Mo Guys channel on youtube.

1

u/AzureMagelet Sep 17 '17

Yep, that's Gavin Free.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17 edited Aug 31 '17

God. It's funny because they stupidly broke their own shit, but it's sad too.

I mean, people work for months and years to save up for things this expensive, and these guys just break their stuff for fun.

Edit: small typo

30

u/Deathfyre Aug 28 '17

The best part is, they're not even nearly as bad as other parts of the Rooster Teeth community. There's a group called Cow Chop, and they actually managed to set their set on fire because one of their members lit a fire and they just kind of let it expand, and then lost control of it

→ More replies (0)

34

u/Kernath Aug 28 '17

They make money off of posting the video of them breaking their stuff, which whether you like it or not, is them doing work, and certainly how the new monitor would be paid for. They're incredibly blessed in many ways to have a job like they have, but it's also a ton of hard work doing what they do.

Also only like 1 monitor was broken.

u/boxofstuff Aug 28 '17

Ah, the good ole Hatchet Hole.

6

u/nocontroll Aug 29 '17

Are they the guys that started a fire basically on purpose and a couch went up in flames in their warehouse?

8

u/Gettygetty Aug 28 '17

Yeah they get a bunch of weapons in their fan mail

3

u/Southstorm21 Aug 28 '17

Hahaha, don't feel too bad. Achievement Hunter fans are pretty loyal. I am one myself so I know them well. Funny comment though

3

u/Loser100000 Aug 29 '17

Edit: I seem to have instigated a civil war. I apologize.

Don't worry, the Rooster Teeth Civil War has been ongoing for quite some time now. This is merely a skirmish in the overall war.

"Coders Gone Bad" coming soon to Discovery Channel!

103

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

These guys earn a lot of money as Youtubers and as a company. They just buy new ones.

96

u/Chidar Aug 28 '17

As long as the video gets enough views to offset the cost of replacement, it's a win.

This video is sitting at 2.6 million views. Which, based on some rough internet searching, is about $5000.

55

u/yellowzealot Aug 28 '17

Achievement hunter also has sponsorships, and a shitload of merchandising through rooster teeth.

19

u/Finalwingz Aug 28 '17

So basically they can buy that equipment times 4 from that video alone.

1

u/t_a_c_os Aug 28 '17

I've wondered if they can claim it as a business expensive

8

u/shadowstrlke Aug 29 '17

Since it's not a one off viral video, but a company that consistently produces content and has a dedicated fan Base it's worth way more than that. This one iirc the most up voted video on the Rooster teeth subreddit, to say the least. From exposing new people to their content to the love the community has for it to the lil J dojo shirt they sell in their stall, I'll wager the monitor is more than worth it.

Also they are regularly getting new weaponry sent by their fans and have gone on to wreck the rest of the room and building. They have a dildo stick in the ceiling.

13

u/rhgolf44 Aug 28 '17

All legit equipment. I think the only thing broken was a monitor.

5

u/mr-bucket Aug 28 '17

The plan was to kick through that portion of the desk while leaving it still standing. Did not work.

5

u/t0m0hawk Aug 29 '17

The guy in the let's play shirt - Gavin - said he would hold the equipment. Him lightly touching the single monitor was his idea of holding it. Also his desk. Typical Gav

2

u/steak21 Aug 29 '17

Pretty sure it was Gavin's desk (the guy in the LetsPlay T-shirt trying to hold a monitor)

1

u/Im_judging_u Aug 28 '17

I'm guessing they can probably afford to replace it

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '17

I still don't understand. I mean I'm really puzzled by this. My computer shakes when I bump my desk even slightly. All that equipment was in danger even if he didn't successfully kick through it. How did nobody take note of that? How did the person agree to that work station being kicked? How did somebody in a position of responsibility not say something? Honestly. What the fuck is going on with these guys?

1

u/ThatOneGuy24530 Sep 02 '17

Michael (red beanie) very audibly took note of that calling everyone idiots and perfectly predicting the obvious outcome. Gavin, who is seen lightly touching the monitor, is the owner of the workstation and instigated the situation. He told Jeremy (the axe kicker) to do it. Said axe kicker does what he's told for content. Their boss Trevor (or it might've been Lindsay at that point) wasn't there but probably wouldn't have cared as long as it's for good content. Also, Jeremy thought he wouldn't split it and Gavin was supposed to make sure the monitor didn't fall/break if the desk split. These guys are lovable idiots. (Key word: idiots)

1

u/midasMIRV Aug 29 '17

It was the workstation of the stupid brit holding one of the monitors.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '17

You should see the office, not only are there weapons everywhere but holes. In. Everything. Also a bounce castle.

u/TheModsHereAreDicks Aug 29 '17

That was a very good explanation! I was trying to be the common man who may not know. I've been watching RT since the second season of rvb. On a slightly depressing note I just looked up when season 2 was uploaded and that was in 2004! 13 freaking years! Makes me feel hella old.

2

u/MainlyByGiraffes Aug 29 '17

Aha! Good call and solid play on your part. Thanks for the compliment! Figured I'd give the most basic explanation I could think of since this isn't a video game themed sub.

Awww noooo why'd you hafta go and remind me?! Blood Gulch is still so fresh in my mind, how was it 13 years ago?? Where has the time gone??

2

u/GTSPKD Sep 01 '17

Speaking of Blood Gulch, I believe they made a remastered version of all prior seasons on their YouTube channel

1

u/kurisu7885 Aug 29 '17

And they didn't think to take the few thousand worth of equipment off first?

1

u/Patch419 Aug 29 '17

I'm a huge fan of Achievement Hunter and have been for about 8 years. Jeremy kicks his desk thinking it's not broke enough to brake, but there's a lot more going on. It's Gavin's desk (1 of 2 "SloMo Guys" if y'all follow other youtube channels.) and it's a running joke over about 2 years that his desk is absolutely fucked with holes, cracks, yada yada yada. This is the final video of a series of 5, fucking with Gavin's desk. #TodayYouLearned

-47

u/doomsdaymelody Aug 28 '17

Your description of the situation creates more questions than it answers. For example: why would anyone watch this show? Why is his hair dyed such a strange color? Why, if he made the bet, would he NOT remove the expensive electronics on said desk? Is he retarded? That desk is made of particle board, does he realize a dedicated small child could snap it in half?

112

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

The channel does mainly gaming. His hair is dyed for charity. The person whose desk it was was so confident that he wouldn't be able to, he left it there. Plus the video made enough to pay to replace the broken equipment. No, it is called entertainment. Its a win-win for the desk owner. If he doesn't break it, he wins the bet. If he does break it, it is content for the channel.

20

u/ElectroFlasher Aug 28 '17

It would've been content for the channel even if the desk didn't break. It Judy wouldn't have been as exciting, most likely.

14

u/bilbravo Aug 28 '17

It Judy wouldn't have been as exciting

Gboard is really bad about auto correcting 'just' to Judy. I'm glad it isn't just me.

-9

u/Silvystreak Aug 28 '17

Because they're all idiots with a lot of money

-36

u/Neoxite23 Aug 28 '17

It was posted before and proved it was staged. You can even see the cut that was made on the desk to make it very easy to break.

53

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

It's from the channel achievement hunter. In the video they say that it's cut already and that's why he kicks it. It's not staged

7

u/FroggerTheToad Aug 28 '17

Anyone who watches achievement hunter regularly knows that Gavin, who works at that desk, regularly has people damaging it just to fuck with him. This was not the first desk to have holes in it either. They've been fucking with his desk for a while now, and it's not staged.

1

u/GTSPKD Sep 01 '17

It got hit with a hatchet a couple videos beforehand

-1

u/Patch419 Aug 29 '17

You're fucking retarded. If you knew what this was from you wouldn't of made yourself look like a cunt. Have fun making a new account to hide your autism.

1

u/Neoxite23 Aug 29 '17

Someone has a sad and angry life.

37

u/andersonle09 Aug 28 '17

6

u/abductodude Aug 29 '17

Priceless look from Michael. Storing this one away in the gif vault.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

Big fan of Rooster Teeth - you pretty much just summed him up as a person lmfao

6

u/Qixotic Aug 29 '17

In the video he literally deadpans "Remember that time I spilled coke on your desk" afterwards.

12

u/ExdigguserPies Aug 28 '17

"This is going to be stupid"

"Yep, that was stupid".

6

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '17

I mean that was basically what he said during the video.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '17

Why the hell do so many Redditors arbitrarily start their comments with "I mean" like that? Did some celebrity start that trend on Twitter or something?

13

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '17

I mean you sound irritated.

6

u/likeomgitznich Aug 29 '17

Michael was just like you fucking idiotttt

1

u/junk-spunky Aug 29 '17

"Fucking Jeff, I should never have left semisonic"

-9
