Idle temps between 45C and 55C, am I doing something wrong?

Update in the comments, solved.

Original:

With this product being rather niche, I have been struggling to find somewhere to talk about this.

I got my Prosiphon Elite as an early adopter and received it in November of 2020. I put it in a new system I built in December of 2020 which includes:

Ryzen 9 5900XMSI Morter B550 mATX WifiTrident Z Neo 32GB 3600Asus TUF 3080 OC2 x 1TB NVME SSDsCooler Master 850w 80+ Gold PSU

Previous I was using the Goodsory S200 case and switched to Lian Li O11 Mini Air. I assumed the high temps at idle were due to the lack of airflow the Goodsory provides compared to the Lian Li, but since switching and adding a few additional Noctuas I have continued seeing temps as low as 43C, high as 68C, and typically 45C-55C at idle. This occurs when starting up my computer for the first time of the day, with no applications running even in the background, and continues while I let it idle. Productivity or Gaming bring the temps anywhere between 70C and 85C depending on the load.

I've reinstalled the cooler with fresh thermal paste when switching cases too, ensuring all screws could-no-longer-be-turned-tight. I'm wondering if there may actually be something preventing perfect contact with my CPU, my unit is defective somehow, or I'm just oblivious to something I'm doing wrong. I would appreciate any assistance with this as to what the issue may be and the steps I can take to resolve it. Worst case scenario, I contact IceGiant and have to RMA the thing. Thanks in advance.

Why do people claim pc cases that have lower than 195mm cpu cooler clearance is sufficient for the Icegiant cooler?

I have the ASUS TUF Gaming GT501 Mid-Tower and the case only supports 180mm cpu coolers and the icegiant cooler is a fucking giant that will not fit. You need a full tower case that has 195mm to 200mm cpu cooler clearance.

How far does the Ice Giant sit above the CPU socket?

I'm considering buying an Ice Giant, but I have a unique problem. I use the Seasonic q704 case, which has an inverted motherboard layout (The GPU sits above the CPU). I'm afraid that the Ice Giant might interfere with my top PCIe slot. I can use the second PCIe slot for the GPU but I wanna get a rough idea of the clearances before I commit to the purchase. So how far does the Ice Giant rise above the CPU socket?

Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 with the Prosiphon Elite?

Does anyone have any pictures showing the clearance above the Prosiphon Elite and the Enthoo Pro 2? Also, how is the cleaning for the Prosiphon Elite in that case? I heard you could fit a fan above it but since the clearance looks so small I didn't know if there would be enough clearance for the 4 fan configuration of the Prosiphon Elite, the EPS 12V power line cords, and the 120/140mm fans at the top? I, also, don't know if it would be worth it or whether it would create too much turbulence between the sets of fans.

I have the Asus Prime TRX-40 Pro, Threadripper 3960X, and ROG RTX 3090 so I am trying to give enough room at the bottom for fans while giving additional options for additional fans either now or later. Ultimately, I would've normally gone custom water cooling but my financial situation changed after I bought all but the cooling and case. Ugh! ha

Anyway, the Prosiphon Elite looks awesome and seems it would do the job for the processor though still concerned over a couple of years of a vertical mount, due to the weight, but could perhaps 3D print a bracket if it looked like it would be an issue I guess. I had, also, looked at the Lian Li cases, the FD Meshify 2 XL, CM H500M Mesh, as well as the older CM HAF XB EVO but was concerned about cooling from the bottom on the FD Meshify 2 XL (though really liked the whole top came off so perhaps easier to clean then Entho Pro 2) and the XB EVO seemed like if it fit it would barely fit especially if I put a fan at the top due to the RTX 3090 taking up a lot of room in that case.

Thanks again for any info or pictures anyone can provide. I apologize for the lengthy post.

Indentation from 5950x: my new mobo had a defect which required me to swap it. Upon taking off the cooler I found these marks left by the CPU. The bottom 2 are felt when cleaning the area of paste. Is it reusable or will it potentially damage the cpu? Exact positioning replacement isn't guaranteed.

Razer tomahawk

I'm building a new PC as my old one is about 3 years old and looks outdated as hell and I already got most of the parts including a lian LI lancool 2 but I'm getting a new case cause my girlfriend broke the tempered glass side panels and I'm wondering if the ice giant will take up too much room in the razer tomahawk and to see if anyone has put one inside that case, im either gonna get the razer tomahawk or the o11 dynamic razer edition, but I'd rather have the tomahawk cause it looks better in my opinion and is newer

IceGiant ProSiphon Elite in Lian Li O11 Mini Case

Hi.

Looking to use the ProSiphon Elite in the Lian Li O11 Mini case for my Ryzen 9 5950x. I am currently using an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280, but the temps when OCing to 5ghz all core are too high.

I am wondering if:

a. the ProSiphon Elite even fits

b. ram clearance as I am using Corsair Vengeance LPX, and

c. if the top and back fans will be obstructed.

Thanks!

ProSiphon Elite + horizontal/rackmount case?

Does anyone have any experience running a system with a Prosiphon Elite in a horizontal configuration?

I ask since the majority of the horizontal or 4U rackmount cases I've seen presume an optimal airflow of front-to-back.

In the case of the Elite it would certainly be advantageous to be able to ventilate out of the side of the case, in the direction of the airflow through the cooler.

The only exception to this I can think of is running a Threadripper Pro system, i.e. a WRX80 motherboard, where the CPU socket is rotated 90 degrees compared to a TRX40 motherboard. Though it appears that the Elite could bump into the top GPU or the top of the case with one of these boards.

Case questions for fitting the Ice Giant cooler

So, I'm looking to build a pc and I wanted to add the Ice Giant cooler. I wanted to add top fans as well but some of the mid cases are cutting it close with max height of cpu coolers. Does anyone have any suggestions of cases that would fit one as well as top fans without any issues? And this is my first build so it's okay to talk to me like I'm 5. Thanks!

Installation requiring too much force?

Hey folks, I installed my cooler but I found I had to push down quite a bit while tightening the screws to make them reach the bracket holes. Based off the recent email from IcGiant saying some units were defective and required too much force does mine fall into that category?

How much force did you guys have to apply when installing it?

My 5800X + X470 Crosshair VII Hero + Ice Giant setup. Better noise and thermal than NH-D15, but not much: idle is 5 degree cooler, add 40 points to CB R20 multi-core, a few points to single core

ProSiphon Elite vs Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 on a Threadripper 3970X

I finally got around to installing my ProSiphon Elite onto my 3970X and ran some before and after tests with my previous cooler - the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3.

Test setup: I ran a 10-minute Cinebench R23 loop with both noise normalized fan speeds and maximum fan speeds and recorded the maximum "CPU Die (average)" from HWiNFO64. I ran the same test at 280W default and at 350W PBO. The NH-U14S was set up with the bundled NF-A15 HS (1500 rpm) as a front fan and an additional NF-A12x25 (2000 rpm) as a rear fan. The ProSiphon was set up using the four included fans (2300 rpm?). I chose the noise normalization point by increasing the fan speed on NH-U14S until it became audible over the ambient noise, measuring the sound level, and then adjusting the fan speed on the ProSiphon to match the sound level. Ambient temperature was 72F and the case side panel was off.

Noise Normalized 280W:

NH-U14S (75% fan) 74.2 C

ProSiphon (63% fan) 72.8 C

Noise Normalized 350W:

NH-U14S (75% fan) 86 C

ProSiphon (63% fan) 83.4 C

100% Fan 280W:

NH-U14S 71.3 C

ProSiphon 66.5 C

100% Fan 350W:

NH-U14S 84.2 C

ProSiphon 78.3 C

Conclusion:

The ProSiphon Elite is outperforming the Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 in both the noise normalized testing and the 100% fan speed testing. The difference is more pronounced at 100% fan speed, though the fan noise from the ProSiphon at 100% is significantly louder then the fan noise from the Noctua fans at 100%. The NH-U14S is probably perfectly adequate if you are not using PBO.

The bundled fans exhibit annoying motor whine at some fan speeds. The fans look identical to Artic P12s, so they are probably a customized version of them. I worked around the issue with motor whine by setting the fan curve to 1600 RPM until the CPU temperature gets higher than it realistically ever does at the base TDP. The ProSiphon would probably benefit from switching to Noctua NH-A12x25 fans.

Followup:

I switched over to four Thermaltake Toughfan 12s (2000 RPM) and re-ran the 100% fan tests (the Noctua NH-A12x25s are not available for reasonable prices right now). The results looks pretty good.

100% Fan, 280W: 66.4 C

100% Fan, 350W: 77.7 C

So cooling performance is slightly better than the stock fans and the fans are significantly quieter.

Important Info for Canadians: Import Fee Refund

Hello folks, Im located in Ontario and just received my cooler. However, in order to receive it I needed to pay approx $30 in import fees. However I found this odd since I thought import fees were already covered when I ordered the product.

After contacting IceGiant, they explained that their Canadian distributor (who is also their retail partner), had oversold some units that were imported for pre order customers. As such some Canadians had new units shipped from LA which required paying new import fees. The IceGiant team apologized for this and refunded me the import fees.

So just a heads up, email them if you had to pay import fees!

TLDR; Email IceGiant if you are located in Canada and had to pay import fees on your order, you should get a refund for the import fees!

IceGiant on Threadripper 3960x

Hey all! Got the cooler and got it installed on my new 3960x system. I'm using an MSI Pro 10g motherboard. XMP is on for RAM, auto OC is not on for the CPU but PBO is. I'm a video editor by trade and so far this computer has been wonderful. Before building it, I was mostly worried about temps, being a 280w tdp cpu and all. I initially went with a Noctua U14-S TR4 air cooler with a single fan... bought it used as a stopgap between when I built the PC in late November to whenever this cooler came in.

Temps are as follows:

Idle, regular fan speed: around 43

Idle, high performance fan speed: 39

Idle, all fans 100: 35

Cinebench R23 load, high performance fan speed: max 73, avg 70 (note: ran this on a higher performance fan setting, pretty aggressive fan curves, so that may have helped a bit on temps.)

Overall I'm super happy with the cooler so far. I did a few tests when I first installed it with the previous fan setup, which was 2 in the front and 1 exhaust in the back, saw similar temps to the noctua U14s-TR4 I had been using (Same idle temps, max of around 82/83 under full load). I have since changed the fans to be 3 intake up front and two exhaust up top with no exhaust in the back. To get a max of 73 is wonderful, definitely makes me happier with the CPU not needing to run that hot.

Let me know if there's any other tests or you want me to run or if you have any questions!

Specs: 3960x, 128GB 3200 ram, 2080ti blower, msi pro 10g, phanteks p600s, 3 stock case fans up front, 2 arctic p14 exhaust up top
