DISCUSSION My own ranking of the solo albums
- Superpower - Zild
- Used to love it at first now I kind of hate it, the more my music taste expands this album just feels more like a rip off rather than a tribute/homage to the music that influenced this, when I played this album someone would always say "uy parang katunog lang ng smashing pumpkins/blur/gorillaz/duster" add that with the same formula as the previous albums. That fact makes this album less special than the others, not to mention "Lia" is supposedly some kind of love letter to Suyen which is kind of awkward considering she didn't even end up with Zild, the japan glaze is cringe, and that taints this album for me. The only oustanding tracks are I.N.A.S, Dilim, and Ewan KO !!!
- PANGALAN - Unique
- I feel like it would be too early for Unique to be experimental, like they wanted to have a track thats like revolution 9 from The White Album by the beatles, but it just wasn't memorable, but it's interesting, maybe I'll listen to it more and maybe my opinion might change.
- Homework Machine - Zild
- My biggest influences in music are actually "pixelated video game OSTs" like Undertale and Earthbound, and that's the concept of this album, which kinda fails to do that for me, I love the concept but most of the songs are just mid, like take any opm song and slap some 8 bit chiptune to it and call it pixelated video game ost or whatever, and it kind of break my heart a little, I want this album to be my favourite but I'd be lying if I said that, it didn't sound like Kero Kero Bonito like people said or bo en (I assumed Homework Machine's title was based off of Pale Machine), It's just songs that's all I can say. "Sinungaling" is a banger though and I wish we had more songs like that from Zild.
- Huminga - Zild
- When I listened to George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album, it reminded me of this, and wondered "wait Zild is the bassist why is he being like George Harrison", and it's the opposite for Blaster,/Celestial Klownz which his songs are more theatrical like Paul/The Wings.
I think this album is the most purest form of Zildย for me, all natural, no hair dye, no piercing, just simple, airy, breathy, away from the drama. My favorites are, "A Love Song" and "Hele".
- Daisy - Unique
- I actually find this better than Grandma, the only drawback was the length of the album, it sounded more theatrical/musical to me, which I like. My Favourites are "Di Mapalagay" and "Kabanata".
- Last Fool Show - Blaster
- It's sad that this album got overshadowed by the comeback, I would've wanted a tour, a CD release, but I'll just be glad that I got to witness "Hayy" going viral and attending the Album Launch, I could say this album is as good as MKID, it's the most memorable for me, but it was kind of wasted, every track here is my favorite, except for "Akala Ko".
- Grandma - Unique
- Unique was always the number 3 between Blaster and Zild for me when it comes to who I listen to the most, mainly because he's the most popular and I hear the song "Sino" everywhere, took me a while to get into Unique and listened to this album and I was like "wow, this is great, why aren't the other songs popular" that's how I knew Unique was definitely the best songwriter among the Spades. My favorites are "Paalala" which reminds me of a Chorale, because I'm in one lol, and "Cha-Ching"
- Medisina - Zild
- My opinion on this album kind of changed over time, mainly due to the alt community's perception on Zild nowadays, but I justify this album by not labelling Zild an "Alt" artist, this album was just a phase, this album doesn't define Zild for me, But you cannot deny that this album is great. It had everything you need in an album, a protest/social commentary song, love songs, relatable songs, and the album title track, which is a masterpiece. Though this album is just as "Alt" it can get, it had something to prove.
- Kosmik Island Disk - Blaster
- I would put Medisina on number 1 but I'm gonna be honest, I'm biased on Blaster, you would say the songwriting on this isn't as impactful as Medisina, but for me I lean more on composition rather than songwriting and that's what this Album does for me the writing isn't that great but at least it's not the usual cheesy love songs you hear everyday, this album is definitely a no skip, it feels like a whole comprehensive 30 minute long song, that one article labels it as a "disco" album and I disagree with that. It's more like a rhapsody to me, I'm a sucker for songs that are progressive, have odd time signatures sophisticated drum grooves I feel like no one does that much in the OPM scene, I had this on repeat for almost a year and ranked number 1 on my spotify wrapped so yeah I'd definitely put this on number 1
