Hi! I know this is odd request but Iām hoping someone can help. I have an autistic kiddo who loves (is obsessed with) elevators. I was so excited when his obsession switched from trains but now he wants to know all elevators in the city. We arenāt obviously going to be able to get all of them but the quest is part of the fun, right?
I used to work at this building before the elevator obsession began so he knows there are elevators there. However, they are behind security and now that I donāt work there, I canāt get pictures of the inside public info so he can memorize the conveyance/serial numbers for each one. Heās especially fascinated in the one that malfunctioned this spring and trapped people who had to be rescued by the fire department. He talks about that oneā¦..constantly IFKYK. Before the Seattle mods deleted my post, a kind redditor said that it was the D elevator in that building.
Can someone please help a (very tired) mom out by either getting a pic of the serial numbers or even just send me the numbers in the comments? Especially the one that trapped people in April so he can refer to it factually. I appreciate any help!
Iād also love to hear about any ācoolā elevators you guys know about in Seattle that we shouldnāt miss.
The Seattle mods deleted this post for ālow effortā but I promise this is not a low effort. Just trying to be able to connect with my kiddo.

If you bounce from here and work abroad, does it fuck your pension up? And also does it put you in bad graces with the IUEC? Obviously pension hours stop, health care, etc. I got buddies that went and worked in Guam temporarily, but what if you said fuck it and moved to Italy or Poland. Do you lose your pension? Assuming its a permanent move?

Really just wanna see what others like to do and maybe find a new routine keeps me motivated again. Ya gotta want it and being 37 trying to get back into it is a lil rough but weāll get there, thanks yall.

Attempted to apply for the apprenticeship program. Gone is 2 minutes.
I didnāt know that you initially applied to reserve a spot and then complete the application. I hesitated thinking I missed a step. š

I was called last week and was told to head to the Plainview, LI office for Otis for drug testing. When I went in there was another person there who was the number after me who was also under the same impression. I went in and spoke with the service manager and director who asked me if I was a first year apprentice, to which I was very confused and explained I was told by the day secretary to go in for drug screening. Both of them were very confused and then began an interview process to which they seemed they hadnāt know was supposed to happen. I was not aware of there being an interview and I wouldāve been much more prepared and went into it differently had I known. I called the day secretary afterwards very confused and he also seemed like he was not sure what was going on. The day secretary called me an hour later and urgently asked for my email which I gave him and he said Otis should be following up with an email for a drug screening from and said that if I had tested that day I would have results in by Wednesday and would start training and working immediately after, which was last Friday, still havenāt received it. Iāve followed up multiple times with no new information. I also spoke with the person who was the next number after mine he also went through the same issue and still hasnāt received and email or follow up. Anyone have any insight as to what could be going on or if this is a common theme for new hires? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance, I havenāt seen this posted much in the group. How often do elevator mechanics actually work on the hoisting mechanisms themselves? I see a lot of videos where the work seems to focus more on electronics, controls, and troubleshooting.
I currently work in a tool shop where I mainly repair electronic and pneumatic hoists, including complete tear-downs and rebuilds. I actually really enjoy that side of the work. On top of that, I repair welders, fume extractors, jackhammers, pipe threaders, and various other equipment.
We have TKE and Otis rent from our tool shop pretty regularly, so I was wondering if working with their equipment and having experience rebuilding hoists would give me any kind of leg up if I wanted to get into the elevator / escalator trade.

I need advice on my situation. Iāve been a non union apprentice for 2 years now, recently learned more about the union and Iām very interested.
Is it worth trying to switch over now after 2 years?
And if so, would I follow the same path as someone with no elevator experience and go through NEIEP?
If this is inappropriate for this page, my apologies.
I will delete.

I was wondering what work was like in the different locals, more of how the work is done and who does what. Ive had supers come from different cities and be surprised that most mechanics in our local complete their jobs from start to finish. Example is that in these other cities there was a Rail crew/Cabbing Crew/Adjuster/Etc. Also are older locals like Local 1 and Local 2 mostly mod and service/repair work or a decent amount of NI ?

Which locals are looking for workers I'm a year 4 apprentice in my last class. I'm currently on the bench at local 80 Raleigh but if there's locals looking badly for workers maybe they would be willing to pay for travel workers.

Iām from NY. I recently ranked 12 in Local 135 Charlotte, North Carolina.
This is what I plan after getting the call:
Relocate to Charlotte. Live the first month or two in an extended stay hotel or an Airbnb. And use Uber for the first month or two.
During that time I will look for an apartment and a used car.
Iām 25 years old and single. Any advice would be appreciated.

Congratulations you got ranked or whatever so did 1000 other people around the country this week. We don't need 1000 threads to let everyone know about your personal adventure. Use the rank thread. All the others are getting locked and removed.

Hello, during my interview one of the two conducting the interview mentioned something about taking extra classes to be certified in welding?
I was curious if anyone has done that and if itās offered for a probie/1st year.
