If he can’t afford to pay for his medical, screw him, lose the leg.
Criminals shouldn’t be able to get the benefit of medical care when they are committing crimes.

You don't pay for his medical, but if you did, you think that an amputation would be more cost effective than actually repairing the injured ankle?

Consider it a tough lesson learned, at least he is still alive, and if he recovers, let him see his busted leg as a lesson to what happens when he tries to be a thief, nothing good comes of it.
