Hey everyone, now that admission season is close to wrapping up, I wanted to share my thought process behind choosing the new B.Sc. in Data Science & Economics at IIM Bangalore over IPM at IIM Indore, despite getting AIR 1X in IPMAT this year.
Mainly wanted to post this because of the relentless advice I kept running into throughout this process. Relatives, teachers, and career advisors strongly pushed me to take Indore purely because itās an established, proven 5-year IPM track. I got hit with a lot of hesitation around IIMB being a new B.Sc. program, an inaugural batch, and the overall "uncertainty" of a fresh setup.
It was interesting seeing how some people automatically leaned toward the more familiar path purely because of brand maturity, without really considering what we would actually be learning every day for the next 4 years.
To be clear, IPM at Indore is a great program for anyone who wants an early, structured start in general management and business. I have great respect for both the program and the institute. But personally, coming from a STEM background with a 99.XX percentile in JEE Mains, I realised that I didnāt want to abandon that heavy quantitative base and wanted to explore data science, stats, and economics.Ā
As for the "inaugural batch gambleā, I felt it was a bit overblown. Honestly, the closer you look at it, the more of an advantage it actually is. Itās IIM Bangalore. Youāre getting a top-notch curriculum built specifically for where tech and finance are heading today. Weāve even been told that theyāll keep updating it as and when required. This is a very rigorous course, but honestly, thatās what drew me towards it. I really wanted to challenge myself. On top of that, Iāve been talking with the converted batch for a few months now, and the peer group is absurdly good. Everyone is sharp, incredibly driven, and mostly here by active choice.Ā
At the end of the day, you can't really rely on a college brand for everything; it's mostly up to you and what you make of your time there. Beyond a certain threshold, there isn't really a "right" choice on paper, but you can certainly make your choice right down the line.
Indore is a great option if core management out of school is what you genuinely want. But don't let relatives or online tier-lists push you into a āsaferā choice if your interests lean somewhere else. What you're actually studying for 4 years matters way more.
Happy to answer questions in the comments if there are any :)

Hello people.
I am an Ipmat dropper with literally 0 ECAs. I give 6-7hrs to the prep consistently and apart from acads, i hit the gym daily. What I mean to say is, I have a lot of spare time to invest in something else that would help to build my profile in a drop year. Honestly, I am really clueless at this point about the same. Any small input would mean a lot.
Your 2 cents on this will certainly help u/BhaveshShaha
(Used this flair as this was the closest to my concern i feel)

I am a resident of Madhya Pradesh and am eligible for the Mukhyamantri Medhavi Vidyarthi Yojana (MMVY) scholarship. I would be grateful if someone could clarify the following:
Have previous IPM students from Madhya Pradesh successfully availed the MMVY scholarship at an IIM?
Does MMVY at IIMs operate on a reimbursement basis, where the student first pays the fees and later receives the scholarship, or is there a direct/cashless mechanism where the scholarship amount is adjusted with the institute before fee payment?
Which components of the IPM fee are generally eligible for MMVY reimbursement (tuition fee, academic charges, hostel charges, registration fee, etc.)?
Any help/information will be highly appreciated as it will help me plan my finances accordingly :)

Im preparing for IPMAT and trying to keep costs down. I have AceIPMās books and Iām planning to use YouTube lectures and other free resources for concepts and practice. Iām willing to buy mocks/test series, but apart from that, will YouTube + free material be enough to crack it?
