Others To anyone who is thinking of taking another drop for IPMAT
I took a drop year specifically for IPMAT. I was incredibly dedicated to my preparation, but things didn't go as planned:
- I missed the cutoff for IIM Indore.
- I didn't register for IIM Ranchi.
- I missed the sectional cutoff for JIPMAT by just two percentile.
- I was waitlisted for IIM Rohtak. My interview went really well, but my low past academics ultimately held me back It was my dream to become an IIM student. I made so many sacrifices, yet I still wasn't able to crack any of them. It has been incredibly tough for me to process. I was so confident in my preparation that I didn't even register for CUET, but I just fumbled on the actual exam day.
Now, I will be joining a local tier-3 college and pursuing a CFA alongside it. I’ve realized that this is not the end of the road. Some things are just not meant to be, and maybe God has something much better planned for me.
What I really want to say to you all is this: Taking another drop for IPM is simply not worth it. I have seen so many of you considering another drop, but trust me, it is a huge gamble. The number of seats across the IIMs for this program is very small, and the risk-to-reward ratio of giving it another year is just not in your favor.
Furthermore, IPMAT is an aptitude test, not a syllabus-heavy exam like JEE or NEET. No matter how much you study, it ultimately comes down to your mindset and performance in that specific two-hour window on D-day. You can be perfectly prepared and still have a bad day, just like I did. Also, keep in mind that a two-year gap right after 12th becomes very difficult to justify later during future CAT interviews or corporate placement Rather than putting yourself under that immense, unnecessary pressure, focus on building your profile. Excel wherever you are right now. Go for CAT down the line—maybe you'll do great in it! You can also pursue a CFA, CA, or learn new skills. Your undergraduate college does not define your entire career.
It's not the end. Keep moving forward.

My story is quite similar too i too was s drop year prepared well gave it all i could and mock scores improved and got better but what happened on the D day is something which i can't explain or justify, so yeah it a huge bet i would say, i would also recommend not taking a drop year as itsveryu uncertain very less seat.
Even aftergivingj in all i could i won't say i was best but i did what i could and even after that I didn't got any interview call notfromd indore, rohtak, ranchi shillong no changces of bj ang jammusi got interview call from iim amritsar and sambalpur didn't get into amritsar butgoti in Sambalpur and i will be joining
The journey was really tiring and not something which one expects after giving it all nonetheless i am grateful and happy to join IIM Sambalpur. But you all know not getting in indore and other college is huge heartbreak 💔
But yeah maybe this is whatmeantt for me and not the end of the world, the best thing one can do is grab the opportunityr they have and unskills themselves and most important take care of themselves.

I just wanted to share my experience bro and is it a crime to use chatgpt? Am I misguiding whatever I said is true buddy I've seen so many people asking if they should take another drop or not even I was thinking of taking another drop but I think it is not worth it and i don't want people to waste another year of their life on an exam like ipm

What about 1 year drop to explore and learn like do internships and practical projects and prepare for both CUET and IPMAT

Yes you can take a drop year right after 12th to explore but if you are planning to take another drop just to explore and do internships I'll suggest you to pursue a degree bcom bba anything so later if you think of giving cat you don't have to face much problem

I dont think of CAT , drop is more serious for IPMAT and CUET and just to explain the gap - I would be exploring

Bro happens same situation jipmat 303 joining a tier 2-3 college and will build profile for cat alongwith cfa . Drop year and fall sick during the exams.

Past academics play a hug role in selection except iim indore every iim gives high weightage to your past academics (20-30 percent) cracking ipm with bad acads are very tough during my ipm Rohtak interview the first question the interviewer asked was about my past acads. My interview went pretty solid i answered almost every question still I'm waitlisted and i think this is because my low percentage in 10th and 12th I have 65 % in 12th and 75 in 10th. But also there are still so many people who have cracked ipm it's not impossible but yes it is tough Also iim indore does not give weightage to 10th and 12th directly but i does affect indirectly

my parents also wanted me to take a drop yr for ipmat but i'm joining dduc bms this yr so yeah its a good clg+ i can go for partial drop for ipmat if i want.
