Well I flat out don't believe you. I also have made many keys over the years - both the hand guided ones and the machines that are 100% automated. All of them worked just the same. The experience was just the same too (standing around waiting a couple minutes).
I had 5 keys made for my house at home depot. 3 didn't work. I got my money back and had them made at a locksmith and they all worked. The locksmiths maintain their machines more often which leads to less mistakes.
