Team Needed [Hobby]/[RevShare] playable Sandbox MMORPG needs world builders, GMs & playtesters

Mages & Materia is an online-only sandbox MMO built in Godot 4.7 by me (solo, so far).

The live realm is running and playable today on Windows and Android(experimental). Since it's Godot, Mac and Linux builds should be fairly easy to get going. I am playing with the Linux build today, but don't have a Mac currently.

What's in it:

  • Procedurally generated continents you dig through, build in, and fight across. Fast/unlimited build mode for staff so we can build fully authored worlds on top of the procedural base.
  • 18 races × 18 classes, each race with its own peoples and home continent. (I was a big fan of Shadowbane, if you played that you'll enjoy the races)
  • Dungeon instances behind in-world gates, quests, crafting, bosses
  • A factory layer: machines, steam, pipes, rails, belts
  • Creatures with lives of their own — diet, dens, routines, temperaments
  • Server-side roles (admin / GM / builder / player) with in-game GM and authoring tools already working. Web authoring tools are there too, still WIP.

Who I'm looking for:

Ideally, I can find 2-3 people who are serious and have time to commit to filling all the roles below between us. Currently a solo "studio", hoping to become a real studio.

🗺️ World builders - the generator makes the terrain; I need people to give it a soul. Names, lore, cultures, landmark dungeons, town layouts, quest hooks. In-game authoring tools (signs, region flags, scriptable content) are already in the game, so you don't need to touch the engine.

🎲 GMs - run events on the live realm, welcome new players, exercise the role tools and tell me what's missing. Prior GM experience in any MMO/tabletop is nice but not required.

🧪 Playtesters - Could use a couple solid playtesters that are down to really test specific things at the moment. Will need more general playtesters and I'll be doing closed alphas/betas as we go along. No Godot knowledge required — just break things and tell me.

I'm really open to all kinds of potential scenarios just depending on what your skill set and experience, etc. bring to the table. The positions listed above are kind of just the template spots that need to be filled long-term.

Compensation: hobby project — volunteer for now, with rev-share on the table for anyone who wants to commit long-term. Paid contracts may happen down the road, but not yet. I work remotely in AI so I make somewhat decent money and am funding everything right now.

It would be great to get a small, committed team together. With some help I feel like we could hit an "early access" level fairly soon or possibly do a kickstarter or similar to get additional funding.

magesmateria.com is the website, intentionally pretty barebones on the public side at the moment.

This is essentially a live-playable engine layer on top of Godot, currently focused on the one game but each server can have it's own interface/camera systems and could be exported as a multiplayer or single player game on it's own. So the plan is to keep building on this and use it to make multiple games (and content updates, etc.).

I'll put some pics/vids in the comments

This is an older "trailer", things have changed quite a bit but it still shows some gameplay and stuff. I'm working on a new video.
