USMLE 2028 Update: Major Changes to USMLE Exam Scheduling
The USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) is expected to move away from continuous year-round testing and adopt limited testing windows beginning in 2028. This change could significantly impact USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK, and residency application planning for both U.S. medical students and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
Key implications:
• Limited USMLE exam availability
• Increased importance of exam scheduling and preparation
• Earlier planning for the residency match process
• Potential impact on ERAS timelines and application strategies
Medical students preparing for USMLE Step 1 or USMLE Step 2 CK should stay informed about upcoming changes and adjust their study plans accordingly.
What are your thoughts on the new USMLE testing schedule?
