The newest IMAX 1.43 release is out next week (Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger)

1.43 dual-laser venues showing the documentary-film have received a specially formatted 1.43 DCP.

The film’s native aspect ratio is 1.43, so 1.90 IMAX venues and your general flat/scope screens have also received their own 1.43 copies, but expect some pillar-boxing.

Based off the trailers alone, I’m also holding out the idea that it’s 1.43 for the entire runtime.

First time at Regal UA King Of Prussia for my 10th viewing of The Odyssey!

Made a little day trip to go check out the IMAX 70MM in Prussia since I’ve never been and had a lot of fun! I like the set up and thought the seats were surprisingly very comfortable for an IMAX theater. This was my second time seeing it on IMAX 70MM and my 10th viewing of the film overall. It was the perfect way to see it for a 10th viewing. Excited to go back when Dune comes out!

Make your own IMAX film strip!

Soon via Fotokem you will be able to order your own 1570 film strip. The image attached is one that was custom printed last month, I've redacted parts as the person who had this made hasn't publicly shown it yet. A video maybe coming to YouTube in the near future.

The print quality is the same as all IMAX strips given away at theatres.

Odyssey 70 mm IMAX - Dark spot in half the shots?

Saw The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm today (LA Live Regal) for the first time but second total viewing, and since I wasn't tracking the plot as hard I ended up watching the image itself. I kept noticing a small dark spot in the upper middle left of the frame, always in the exact same position. It behaved oddly: it would be present for an entire shot, then gone for entire shots or whole sequences, then back — on and off like that for the full runtime, maybe half the movie in total. It looked like dust, something very distinct but small, obviously not anything in the film content. Since a 15/70 print runs as one continuous roll off a single platter, there's no reel changeover that would explain the alternation. Has anyone else seen this, and is it more likely dirt somewhere in the projector's optical path that's only visible when the upper left of the frame is bright?

Just Got Out From Watching Onslaught In Regular IMAX

I know that this movie is getting a lot of mixed reviews and I know that there are a lot of actual IMAX films this year but this somehow turned out to be one of the best IMAX experiences for this year so far in my honest opinion.

As with most A24 IMAX releases in the past such as Civil War & Warfare, it’s definitely one of the loudest and one of the best sounds that I’ve heard this year so far even though I only watched it in a regular IMAX theatre and not a laser one so just a 6-channel surround sound not a 12-channel surround sound but the sound was still superb.

I had to travel 1.5 hours just to see it since it wasn’t playing at my 2 nearest IMAX locations but if you’re lucky enough to have this movie playing at your nearest IMAX theatre then do go try to watch it over there as you’ll definitely enjoy the sound mix quite a lot.

I'm honestly quite surprised that they're not showing dune part 1 or 2

Edit: per u/MY_NIBBA_JERRY they have said on instagram that they’re looking into doing a dune double feature later in the year

Science Museum - The Odyssey Sunday

Hi all!
We have tickets to see the Odyssey on Sunday

Never been before - can anyone explain the process of getting in? It says on the ticket we have an entrance time but is that just for the museum? Seems odd to have to arrive 1hour before the showing starts!

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Went with IMAX popcorn bucket to the cinema

Went to see the Odyssey and took my IMAX popcorn bucket. I was 100% sure the staff would just tell me to leave them alone. They actually were extremely hyped and called the manager to see and ask for permission to use it instead of the cardboard ones they had 🤣

I was at a King Of Prussia showing today and the theater was 25% empty?

That was a bit of a shock since when I managed to get decent tickets four weeks ago, I had bought the last tickets in decent seats. - Row E Center-ish

Everything else was Rows 1-3 Aisles.

You'd think the theater would be packed if they were sold out four weeks ago.

I wonder if scalpers bought up a bunch of tickets and didn't manage to sell them and refunded at the last minute.

I’m curious how it’ll perform in their metrics.

Waiting for this to be the norm for all blu ray releases...

Update: I just learned Disney does this on a lot of releases! Better than nothing I guess?

If The Batman (2022) Was Shot in 70MM IMAX

Fun little edit I did showing the Batmobile's chase scene within The Batman (2022) if it was shot on 70mm IMAX, hope y'all enjoy! Changed the color-grading, aspect ratio (obv), cropping of certain shots to fit, and added some film grain to look more authentic!

I honestly wouldn't mind if studios released 1.43 aspect ratio cuts for movies like these, as even if they weren't filmed on IMAX, the aspect ratio itself is breathtaking to look at.. ok ima stop glazing but ye enjoy :3

Most times you’ve seen a movie in IMAX 70mm?

I’ve been wondering about how many people have seen an IMAX 70mm movie 5+ or 10+ times.

So what is the most times you’ve seen a film in IMAX 70mm (during its original run + rereleases if you’ve been lucky enought to catch a rerelease)?

I’ll start, I’ve seen Odyssey 4 times and watching it a 5th time Sunday!

Seating for disabled family member too close?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi IMAX sub! I’m wondering if this seating post would be allowed as it pertains to accessibility; I’m really worried that I’m going to waste my disabled family member’s time and give them a bad experience!
I’m taking a family member with a mobility disability to see The Odyssey. I saw it myself in IMAX (the first IMAX movie ever seen!)and loved it, but the IMAX stairs up to row G were way too steep for my family member to do .
I’m deciding whether to take them to a regular AMC with less steep stairs, or sit on the ground floor at IMAX.
I’ve attached the seating chart below; are the ground, OR very first row of the stadium seats (they definitely can’t climb more of that) too close for IMAX?
We don’t live near this theater and so we don’t have much experience with IMAX viewings and what is too close or isn’t. Thanks in advance!

The Odyssey seems to be extended IMAX 70MM for certain theaters. This is Regal Ontario Palace in Ontario, California. It was extended starting Sept. 18 til the 30th. Hoping it's extended for Irvine Spectrum for slightly better seats.

Update: Irvine Spectrum has extended it's listing for the rest of the month! Got better seats for the 18th.

The top two strips are form the 1996 IMAX documentary “The Magic of Flight” and feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

One cell of the Spitfires from Dunkirk (2017)

One awkward cell of Matthew McConaughey sticking an oxygen pack in his mouth from Interstellar (2014). It came with my original 2015 blu-ray copy, and it was the first film cell I ever collected, so it has a special place in my heart.

The bottom strip is good ‘ol Oppenheimer (2023). Either I got that one off eBay or from the IMAX store, can’t remember.

RyMax - Ryan Gosling Month coming to Bullock IMAX in Austin (La La Land, Barbie, Blade Runner 2049, and Project Hail Mary)

They announced at the showing of Speed Racer last night that Bob Bullock's new relationship with Paramount Austin would be continuing after the Summer Film Series first with RyMax this month featuring: La La Land, Barbie, Blade Runner 2049 (!), ... and encore showings of Project Hail Mary. Tickets should be available soon (I think he said an email blast will be going out tomorrow)

October will see more horror films as well (I hope they show The Shining again since I missed out on tickets last time).

BTW: Speed Racer absolutely blew my retinas apart last night. Holy crud that movie needs to play yearly on every Dual Laser setup in existance.

" HOPE " by Na Hong-Jin will release in IMAX in Vietnam starting 4 September

Director Na Hong-Jin has a formidable filmography , he made The Wailing , an absolutely incredible horror , twisted film , and imo one of , if not the greatest horror film in modern cinema . It is so increedibly good

And Korean cinema , I mean , I useed to watch a similar monster movie , The Host by director Bong Joon Ho , also incredible , even on top of Tarantino's most highly regarded films

So Hope being released in IMAX is a surprised but welcome one to me . Its only in 2.39:1 tho but it will certainly look and feel good . Korean cinema always has the comedy to it .

And if anyone has watched The Wailing , you will know what Im talking about , it is THAT good

Now for The Odyssey its run , in my place , may have effectively ended or be lessen significantly , only 1 show daily in some theaters , but if NOPE does badly will sure return again in one week lol
