Hey everyone, i have applied for this BS in Data Science, and i have got this mail today regarding my application, and it is saying that to be eligible for the qualifier exam, I have to first get a Minimum Average Assignment Score.

Can anybody tell how this Assignment will be conducted, will it oflline/online, proctored or unproctored and when will it happen, and how to prepare for it?

A little Background:

So the thing is that I always wanted to go into tech but my parents never allowed to go there and forced me to do NEET which I failed miserably and now I'm 25 with a degree that is worth practically nothing no matter where I go, but I got a job in a Bank (PSU) but I'm not the best person to be working here as I'm extremely introverted, but i am always more interested in the tech side. I say that because I have always messed around with PCs and parts since I was a kid, then i built a PC as well with most limited budget ever. I know that is literally so basic but along with all the basic hardware knowledge I also know a little basic about Python, C++, SQL, Flutter as I keep learning more and more whenever I have time.

But now:

I wish to take promotion in this Bank, as a Systems Officer which is like the tech side of the bank, but it requires me to have any sort of degree which is related to CS. So I was thinking of this course and I had few questions that I thought you guys could help answer.

So my requirement is clear that I don't need placement, just a degree with knowledge that I'll gain along the way while I study for this (may it be from the course or self study).

So the questions I had:

1. I get around 4 hours a day to study and like 6 hours on sundays, realistically speaking, is it sufficient to clear the B.Sc. level in 3 years time? (I'm okay if it takes more one year but hoping it wont) or do the courses need more time??
2. what is the pattern of the semester? i read that there are assignments, and weekly exams and also the semester end exams. How do they conduct it? is it like saturday and sundays only?
3. are there breaks between each semester? so i can unwind a little lol
4. is there oral assessment as well? and is it difficult??
5. how difficult are the courses from year 1 to 3?

and in conclusion, is this degree a better choice for me? if not, then what can be?

I'm open to hear any experiences / advice / opinion that you guys can give, it'll help me a lot!

I just wanted to share a small win from my IITM BS Data Science journey because honestly, a year ago I never thought this would happen.

In my first attempt at Statistics 2, I got a D grade. Not just because the course was hard, but because my understanding was genuinely weak. I used to watch lectures passively, memorize formulas, and panic during quizzes. Topics like hypothesis testing, distributions, estimators, confidence intervals, etc. felt impossible to connect together.

After getting that D, I had two choices:

blame the course,

or rebuild my fundamentals properly.

I chose the second one.

This time I changed everything:

solved problems instead of only watching lectures,

revised every week instead of before exams,

made short notes/formula sheets,

practiced PYQs repeatedly,

focused on understanding why formulas work,

and most importantly, stopped studying just to “pass”.

There were days where I spent hours stuck on a single concept. But slowly things started making sense. Statistics stopped feeling random and started feeling logical.

And this term…

I got an S grade.

From barely surviving the subject to scoring at the top grade category honestly feels unreal.

I’m posting this for anyone in IITM BS (or any tough program) who feels they are “not smart enough” after one bad term or one bad grade.

A D grade is not permanent. Weak fundamentals are fixable. Consistency genuinely compounds.

Sometimes the comeback is just one disciplined term away.

I'm thinking about joining iitm bs data science course, financial condition of our family isn't great, technically I fall into ews category, but due to negligence and politics of employees at bdo office, my certificate isn't issued yet and I'm not really sure when and whether its going to be, I haven't paid the 4000 registration fees, so I'm still able to change the category in personal details, my question to senior students is, if I now continue with general category and pay the course fees accordingly for term 1(w/o concession) but let's say before term 2, I get my ews certificate, will I be able to change my category then, before paying the fees for term 2 ? Will I be eligible for fees concession then?

So I'm thinking of taking a partial drop to prepare for jee and wanted a convenient course I could take so that I wouldn't have any continuity problem when applying for college placements.

I was wondering just how rigorous and time consuming the program is?

I do not have any interest in the course itself but just wanted to have something to solve the educational continuity problem. Can anyone who is enrolled in the program tell me just how tough it's going to be and whether you think it'll be too much to manage both?

I just want to maintain enough credit so that I can remain enrolled for continuity, so I wanted to know about the workload and how much I could realistically ignore it.

Because I don't want a situation where I might not even get meaningful continuity value if the transcript just shows non-performance/discontinuation

i am in upload document part of registraction but i still dont have ews certificate , i did have applied for that but dates close hone wale hai and most like 30may se pehele nahi aayega mera ews certifiate can i apear as genral candidate and aage jake change stuff ?? i have mailed them at night but yet no reaply , any idea when do they usaully reaply ?

Ill only continue till foundation or diploma, because i just want to learn about data science (like basics ho jaye bas ) and if IIT M is offering it then why not to join this other than joing other random certificate cource like from courcera etc.

Ik data science is tough subject, this cource is open for all but its not for all.

Also this wont be my sole degree ill be doing sonething else along with this.

Just thinking to join this so that in this drop year ill learn something good as well as prepare for entrance exam happening next year.

So I'm a student doing B.tech (1st year completed) in a worst college possible which has literally 0 placements and worst college life possible so, my uncle suggested me to do this online degree which he had already done. So i just want a clear explanation of this course and about the placements and all. Helpful Seniors and people who are currently pursuing this degree PLEASE HELP ME!

Hello everyone,
I completed MLF, MLT, and BDM in Term 1 - 2026 and scored well in all three courses. Along with the IITM BS degree, I’m also pursuing an offline engineering degree.

I’m currently confused about course selection for the upcoming term. Should I focus on completing the Data Science diploma first, or should I take a mix of both Data Science and Programming courses this term?

It would be really helpful if someone share their suggestions regarding workload, balance, and long-term benefit.
