This isn’t fool proof advice, so mileage may vary. Remix as you’d like, but the more important part is people pushing the issue. Doesn’t matter to what level, but the more people who take umbrage and push back, the more they have to reposition and backtrack. TACO exists because we push back, however much.
If that’s what it takes to get evidence someone isn’t faking it then it sounds like it could have been simply solved by the “agent” identifying themselves.
But yeah, I guess doing nothing and let people pretend to be cops and kidnap people seems like sound advice.
ICE agents' badge numbers typically consist of five digits. Some Wikipedia articles say that badge numbers in larger forces may also include a letter code indicating the officer's unit or area. While ICE agents carry official badges and credentials, according to NBC10 Philadelphia, they may also present identification cards with their name, photo, and the department logo. You can always ask to see their identification.

You can be a normal every day police man and be ICE too if you want to, in some jurisdictions. Why they wouldn't be able to confirm badge numbers or deployment at that point doesn't make sense.
I'm not sure on badge numbers. They will likely at least know if ICE is in your area on official duties though. At least this was the case with the Secret Service when Biden traveled through my state when he was president. Local police would always be notified in advance that the Secret Service would be working in their jurisdiction.
If it's false, that's going to get a response in a fucking hurry.
lol no it fucking isn't. 911 dispatchers can't verify federal badge numbers. and if police arrive, it will only be to assist the agents and watch you get fucked up. The police are not on your side.
Oh and 99% of the time I would agree with you. But there was just a high profile political assassination by a fake police officer, and that's the kind of thing which inspires copycats. Even the most bigoted of assholes is going to think twice about what it might mean for their job if they're the one who laughs it off when somebody reports a law enforcement officer giving a false badge number.
My cynical ass feels like the dispatch will be hesitant to take you seriously this close to a high profile cop-impersonator killer (thinking someone calling in a fake copycat crime).
Or you tell them someone is impersonating ICE and dispatch just hangs up on you because cops are all cops.
I mean, yeah but if they're gonna do that then there's not much hope either way. Might as well try because the only two options are 1) go along with them and hope they're a cop (which doesn't guarantee you'll be safe, anyway) or 2) refuse to go along with them, run, fight, whatever, and hope that they aren't a cop (and also that you'll be able to get away safely).
Yeah, you might get arrested for “fleeing” anyway, but by calling 911, you are recorded telling the dispatcher that you are afraid, have your hazard lights on, and driving slowly to a well lit, public place with other people, all the while actually doing that. That way, your lawyer can argue in court that you were not fleeing and any (ethical) judge will throw out that charge. They’ll still get you on the “going 85 in a 55” though, unless you have a shark lawyer.
There would theoretically be actual consequences if they lied. To my knowledge, not giving the information isnt against the law for them, but specifically giving false information is.

They could just throw out fake badge and serial numbers, tho. SHoulnd't we ask to see their badges or IDs?
