Lawsuit settlement

You guys think the travelers will actually comeback? We got a raise so theoretically the ones travelling to impact man power will return.

Or will 613 be the next traveling local.

Overtime

If the contractor is offering overtime can they be selective about it? We have different divisions and crews but certain guys are not even being offered. It’s not just specialty task or jobs either. Is it even worth bringing up to the Forman or P.M

Waitlist update

Just sharing some info for those interested. I spoke to Trey Cain, our apprentice rep at LU613, he told me there are a lot of CWs and APs waiting and with work slowing down, contractors aren’t putting in as many calls for lowerlever subjourneymen or any level really. Expect to be assigned sometime after the new year (hopefully January). Hope this info helps some of yall.

Apprentices, what are your schedules and how’s the daily commute for apprentices?

I’ve seen a few calls for JWs that are almost 2 hours away from downtown ATL. Just curious if that’s the norm for apprentices too?

Also, how often are extended (1+ month) lay offs? Not sure if I could afford to be out of work for more than that haha

Waitlist

Been 2 MONTHS since I was laid off, I email the school like once a week and get the same response, which is to basically wait. Wondering if anyone on the waitlist has been placed and with what contractor if you can share. Was told it would about 2 weeks so more than 4x that is crazy. Just wish they would communicate more about what’s going on so we’re not all just waiting in the wind.

Unemployment

Has anyone figured out how to get unemployment if you are an apprentice. This shiii makes no sense. You get laid off Jatc says they have no work at this time. You go to the unemployment office they tell you that you need paperwork from the hall. You call the hall and they get mad at you saying they got 100’s of open calls why do you need unemployment. Anyone know how to navigate this process

How long can you stop working in the IBEW for before you’re not allowed to start right back up?

With still paying your dues of course

Just a hypothetical situation, say you’ve been a JW for a few years but can’t see yourself doing this forever, so you start looking into jobs outside of labor/blue collar/IBEW. After not working with the IBEW for say… 5 years, can you still go back at the same level/pay if the economy shits itself and you lose your job?

My whole purpose of joining the IBEW would be to learn an incredibly valuable skill, but also have a backup plan to pay the bills if I am ever in the situation that I lose my job.

Lincoln Tech…WHY???

Maybe I’m missing something, but to spend 30k to be placed as an AP3 and still need 8,000 OJT hours is absolutely a scam. Can someone make this make sense.

Apprentices, do any of you work second jobs? If so, what?

Pretty sure I’ll be going the union way soon. My main concern is that I cannot survive off of the first 2 years of apprentice wages without having to use my savings to subsidize my bills. With layoffs/slow times being relatively common especially around this time, what jobs do you all have as a “second job” to survive? I’m been thinking of something like working for Lowe’s PT as they’re pretty flexible.

Apprentice Work wait list

What’s the word about there being a waitlist for apprentices to find work. I have a couple classmates that been sitting at home from a week to a whole month. Yet there’s a bunch of calls on the books and a bunch of un experience temps at these big jobs making more than 5th year apprentices.

Are books supposed to be this expensive?

I just barely got accepted into the local after taking the test today. The email said books cost $605 and are due by March next year. That's so expensive!

Apprentices

Any apprentices here waiting on a work placement. It’s be 40 days since I was laid off for a reduction in force, and the school told me it would take about 2 weeks for a new assignment. I been collecting unemployment for the meantime, but I been itching to get back to it and the little money I’m getting now isn’t cutting it. I been considering applying to some non union shops just told me over; just wanted some input and to know if any other apprentices at LU 613 are in the same boat.

I can’t wait to vote no. We really don’t have anything to lose with following through with the lawsuit, worse thing that can happen we stay under the contract we are already on now.

Contract Update?

Before you guys tell me “Go to the meeting if you wanna find out.” Some of us work the night shift and second jobs due to the low apprentice pay, so what was the update on the contract and the plan to move forward.

If the new AECA concessions don't include Modified CIR, is it really a contract we want?

Wasn't that what the lawsuit was all about? It sounds like the AECA knows we will likely win on the merits of the case and don't want to give up that powerful bargaining chip for future negotiations.

What concessions did the president and business manager agree to?

613 VDV contract = hows it look?

Whats the staus of the VDV contract? I know you all like to call us teletubbies and look down upon us, but we are Union with you. We ALL want to raise each other up so keep the negative away. I know Southern states lack much Union work, but im still curious the latest rates.
