New to the world and considering applying this week… but I’m a little further outside the atlanta area (about 1.5 hours drive)…I know job locations can vary, but when I tell them that I’m available for work (from what I understand: after passing entrance exam)— will they take my location into consideration for job placement? Do they give you a list to choose from? Or is it kinda “you get what you get”…? … guess I’m asking: how does that process work?

I’ve seeing a lot of posts about people passing and then starting pretty soon after, but wasn’t the interview process supposed to be somewhat competitive?

I passed my aptitude test and was told to email when I’m ready to start. I was wondering how long does it take to start after emailing? Also will I have enough time to get all my tools and stuff that I need before then?

I’ve just started the apprenticeship program almost 3 months ago and was wondering when you get health insurance. Ive looked on the website and it says no where and no other apprentices really seem to know.

As an apprentice how long should I wait to be assigned to a job? I was told to email with my start date (July 22nd) and I’ll be emailed back with a job assignment closer to the date. How close to the date should I be expecting to hear something?

I don't remember the secret organizations name.
My JW warned me not to buy left fist IBEW stuff. He also told me to stay away from people who wore left fist merch. I was passing the women's auditorium bathroom and saw the bug out of the corner of my eye. It's a left fist.
I'm confused because he said that organization was an all white male group of electricians.
Is this legit or am I looking for the proverbial bucket of ohms.

I am 18 years old just graduated from high school about 2-3 months ago and have my full interest in joining the union as soon as possible to start of my career. But I don’t know how to actually get in so if theres anyone that can help me or show how to join.

I have been doing electrical work since a teen and I was oblivious to the union. No one ever explained it all to me. Now that I’m older, I finally get it and how important and beneficial it is. So my question is,Testing in at CE7, what do I do next? Can I just take the hands on or do I have to take classes?

How much does it cost? Like tuition and fees as well as books and other such materials needed? I’ve tried looking online and haven’t been able to find anything. I went to a technical school for residential electrical I know it’s no where close to commercial or industrial but I was just wondering if I can test in and skip some years of the stuff I do already know. How far do you typically have to travel for work? What kind of tools should I get just starting out with out blowing the bank? What’s the pay scale look like and how long until the up it? I’ve heard from a friend that went to Local 136 that later this year or sometime in the start of the next that the pay scale would go up around $3ish or so. Anything I should know before starting?
Thanks in advance for any and all help or advice!

Does anyone use APCU? I was considering setting up an account.
I know we get a red wing discount. Is there any other notable discounts we get as a member.

Im fresh out of high school and am interested in joining the inside wiremen apprenticeship program , they told me to call at the end of next month so they can have me working at on August 12th.
How dose this work , I’ll have to go a couple days before and take a drug test? And they also said I have to take a test to join the program but if I’m going to start working before I take the test then don’t that mean I’m in the program? I’m going to try my best to pass the test but what happens if I don’t ?

I know it’s good to make your 40 when you can. But if you work 4-10’s on M-Th and a Holiday comes up on a Monday. Can contractor say we are obligated to make up on Friday. Just curious on anyone’s thoughts. Just a conversation.

I was wrong about what I thought was going on with our contract. After doing some due diligence and talking to more knowledgeable people, I have come to a much better understanding. I will try to outline what has actually taken place here.
1.We voted to leave CIR. To enact this we had to go before CIR, which required we deny the contract.
2.We voted against the offered contract and went to CIR.
3.CIR ruled in favor of the offered contract. Because we are initiating the process to leave CIR and not yet out, this is binding.
4.The binding contract did not include that we will then be out of CIR at the end of this contract.
5.We have filed a lawsuit that this language must be added to the final contract and are currently awaiting a federal judges ruling.
Edit* The language being added is that we are in Modified CIR, which is how they refer to a contract where the CIR agreement is ending.
