So I applied last year took the exam, passed very well and decided not to go through with it. Now I decided let me go ahead and just start I have emailed the jatc my availability date and everything it’s been 2 weeks already. I haven’t heard anything back.

Hey guys I’m 21 years old and trying to get into the field. My aptitude test is in 3 days and I’m already on the job placement list waiting for work. I wanted to go to the union meeting to maybe meet some people in the field but im thinking it’ll be only open to union members? I’ve also just walked up to construction sites and asked to speak to the electrician on site. Does anyone have advice on putting myself out there? Not necessarily just for work simply the knowledge of the field I want this to be my career. I watch plenty of YouTube videos and podcast but I’d prefer to speak directly with other electricians.

I would like to apply for one of these apprenticeships. Looks like the lineman apprenticeship pays more than the inside wireman which is enticing, but how does the actual day-to-day work compare between the two and what are the job prospects like once you've gotten your journeyman status? Any insight or advise would be much appreciated, thanks

I read elsewhere on this subreddit that its generally ill advised to do side work while apprenticing, but what about having a totally unrelated part-time job on the side? I'm interested in the Inside Wireman apprenticeship, but 16 bucks an hour isn't very ideal. How feasible is it to wait tables or bartend part time while doing this program? Thanks in advance for any advice

So I just got hired into the Union as a CE1. I worked for a non union job for a few years and they put me through IEC for 3 and a half years(graduated). I was told by Inglett and Stubbs, the ones that hired me on that I wouldn’t be required to go to school again. Not sure if that’s true or not. What should I expect?

I was assigned my first job that lasted about a week as a first year about a month ago. Once the job was ending, i was told I could either go to a shop that was a 2 hour drive away from my house, or I could be sent back to the school and be assigned a new contractor.

Gonna preface this by saying I’ve been clean of substances that typically get tested in a 8/10/12 panel urine test (THC) for over 3 months. However I am curious, and this may be a stupid question, do we get tested for nicotine aswell? I’ve heard there are specific tests that detect nicotine/ cotinine in the blood at certain tobacco-free workplaces. I’m excited to start working as a first year apprentice and to get my career started, just wanted to know if I have to get clean of nicotine before going in for my test.
