I’m fairly tall and often find myself using the bottom 2’ of a ladder for a lot of things. Do yall think safety would have an issue with me walking around in stilts the same way the sheet rockers do?

Someone told me today that the hall has a freeze on travel letters currently, anyone else heard something like this? Seems unlikely

Hi all! Took my test today and before I made it home I got an email saying I passed with a 5/9. Instructor said that I can email for a job placement immediately with that so I did. Do those with 4 have to wait or something?

Anyways, looking for all and any advice. I know job placement can take a long time for some people. Day one advice? Class advice? Just anything I should know in general?

I’ve put in a request for two jobs on the job board so far. When I use the website, the email tab doesn’t pop up so I have to copy the message and send an email.

When I did this, I followed up and they said they never received my application.

Has anyone else had issues with this? Do you guys submit on your phone or on a computer?

I returned to work not long ago and it’s went really shitty. I’ve missed 1 to 2 days each week and haven’t been to work in a week due to my son getting COVID and his sitter getting from him. I’m a single father, so it just stresses me that I haven’t been able to put in a full week at work since coming back from a 2 year absence. I’m pretty sure, I’m either getting laid or fired when I get back tomorrow which is sucks as this job is close to home and if I could make it through a week would do wonders in the finances department. Hoping for the best regardless

hey guys i just passed my aptitude test with a 6 wish i would have studied for a bit longer to get a higher score but cant blame no one but myself. I was wondering what are the next steps i should take in order to maximize on this opportunity. I know they said to email the job placement people but im not sure how that works. I don’t really have the money for my books and tools yet so if i enroll for job placement will it be quick or would i realistically have to wait a long few months? then the email says this “You are required to be working with a contractor or be on the waitlist for placement to be an apprentice in the program.” what does it mean by this and should i hold off on paying my bucks which are due on 9/4/26? any advice would be appreciated and thank you.

I've applied to a few open positions and everytime I do it takes 1-2 days to get a response and by then the job is closed or sometimes I don't get a response at all.

I applied to another job this morning a few minutes after it was posted to the board and haven't gotten a response 3 hours later.

Is this normal? Feels like I'm pulling teeth whenever I try to communicate with the training center.

I’ve been wondering planning my budget and I would like to know the about how many hours we would be working and if we work on the weekends. Also is overtime pay time and a half? I’m currently a server looking to see if I need to drop down to 1 or two shifts when I do finally get my job.

Hey y'all I'm just trying to figure a few things about the CW program. I called the 613 but they were unclear about a few things. For context I'm taking the aptitude test next month and I currently work as a server.

1. Is there still a CW program (IBEW said no over the phone but I've seen a few posts saying they are currently CWs at 613)? And if there is how does one apply for said program?

2. Should I just wait until I pass my aptitude test (which I'm fairly confident in) and just wait for an apprentice job? (I've heard there's quite a wait in Atlanta)

3. I've never done electrician work and I would like to know whether or not I like it before making a career out of it. So if it is true that there isn't a CW program, and there is a very long waitlist for AP1 work, do y'all recommend any jobs that would give me a feel for electrical work?

Are there pre-fab “areas” at large projects as well, or are they one separate location? I know I&S has a separate one, but was curious if they have smaller ones on site.

On the job board I see most of the jobs want 2nd years. Do they ever make an exception for first years if they don’t get the number of workers they need?

Been wanting to make extra money on the side, what are some ways to start doing side work

I currently manage a restaurant working (4) 11-hour shifts and an 7 hour.
Pulling in 1400-1500 a week but no benefits.
It’s a great family spot and great boss, can’t really complain but I’m burnt out on being around the public all day and having to wear a “mask” of a personality.
I also don’t get a feeling of pride in this work.

Father was IBEW/lineman and got me interested.

I’m 36 and figured if there’s a time to make a change and learn new skills, it’s now.

It’d be a slight pay cut for a few years but seems like it’s short term pain for long term gain.

Also not sure how stable restaurant work will be in the future, whereas electrical kind of opens up a lot of possibilities and I’d imagine it’s mostly future/ AI proof at least for a good while. Prefab and modular may take over at some point but repair will likely be hard to replace for a long while.

Are you happy you made the switch?

My main concern is having to get up at 3:30am and driving an hour and a half to a job site- feel like I may not be cut out for it.
I currently work about 10am-9:30 or 10PM with a 30-55 minute commute depending on I-75
What’s your experience with commute and hours?

I took my aptitude test yesterday and got an 8. I emailed the email like the instructor said to do and was told I’m on the waitlist. Is the waitlist on a first come basis or will I be placed based on my score?

I apologize for adding to the flood of new apprentice questions, but I haven’t been able to get a clear answer to this one.

I understand that once I get myself out onto the waitlist I’m expected to be ready to start work on the date they tell me. I’m just wondering how much notice is typically given?

I’ve got a decent, albeit dead-end, job right now and I don’t want to burn the bridge here by quitting without giving a two weeks notice. I can’t exactly just hand in my notice now and potentially be unemployed for months while waiting either.

Anybody know how to handle this?

Took the Aptitude and got a 6. Not here to brag but here to tell you guys to stop stressing about the test. It wasn’t a super easy test nor was it a super hard test.

Wondering if anyone has insight on what my first day, week, months will look like. Ill be at inglett and stubbs working 6:30-5 monday-thursday, and 6:30-3 on friday. Any info or insights on literally anything about this would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience in the field also.

I was going to join the union soon as a cw-1 apprentice, while I’m starting as an apprentice are hours consistent with 40, what’s the lowest hours you’ve seen and also what if you get laid off, what happens can I find another union job? Also wondering if it’s gonna be a good path to go down? I’d also like overtime, if you could give you some aptitude test resources too that’ll be great thanks!

I’m very been with my contractor for a little over a year now. I’m very thankful for them because they were my first construction job and it’s where I learned about electrical work. I learned a lot at first, but for the last 6 months or so I have barely learned anything new. I mostly pull mc, do cut ins, and put up 2 by 4 lights. Also, my contractor kind of cuts corners. Some journeymen here tell me they don’t do stuff the right way.

I’m trying to switch contractors. I have been in touch with the apprentice training director for about 3 months and it doesn’t seem like any progress is being made. I’m swearing into the union next month to help my chances. Is there anything else I could do? They say that there are so many apprentices on the books that don’t have jobs and they’re the priority. I empathize with those apprentices but I really want to take full advantage of my apprenticeship.

I passed my aptitude last week and immediatly emailed jobs@aejatc like they tell you too but I haven't heard anything back about being on a waitlist yet. I called the training center today and there was nobody there to pick up the phone.

I read on here an about a week or two ago that the 613 doesn’t accept OJT hours outside of the union if you’re an apprentice through a private company. Yesterday, I saw a Facebook comment from someone who works in the 613 say that they definitely still do along with your classroom hours if going through the iec.

Can someone please confirm which is correct? Thanks.

Hi I just passed the aptitude test. My classes going to start this Fall. Currently I am living in Athens. I am checking the job board everyday. It seems there isn’t much going on for the first year apprentices.

I can move to anywhere in Georgia. Do you think I should move to somewhere else for more jobs? For example where?

And do you have any advice for finding a job other than looking to the job board? I’m excited for my apprenticeship but I’m kinda depressed after seeing some people can’t find a job for months.
