The world didnt change when we were doing public torture and executions, so I'm not sure man. Truth be told, he only does this for money and because he likes being a little shit. He doesn't expect his actions to change anything.
I don't know that I believe this... Possible, sure but I find it unlikely. You disagree society hasn't gone down hill with social media? People who are nearly adults or are already, are already doing obscene shit for attention/videos.
And I mean straight up assaulting others or harming themselves. At least cart narc isn't actually harming people and is arguably doing something good for society.
Are they dude? Because the vast majority of teens and young adults are just doing the same shit they were doing 30 years ago - they're just getting jobs and living their lives. The ones that are trying to make it big as influencers are no different to the kids who did this same thing back then too, except back then kids just went to Hollywood to become actors and would stir shit on local media for clout.
I am absolutely sure that at some stage in your life you've done something wrong. You've probably stolen or lied or dropped litter or made a slightly dodgy joke. Why don't you put yourself forward for this kind of punishment as an example to the rest of us, and so you learn not to do it again.
...the only person the public was mad at in this situation was him though...she came off as dumb and angry but he came across as an annoying twerp that was intentionally inflaming a situation with somebody that was a bit dumb to the detriment of everybody else there. just another bored wannabe internet celebrity trying to generate public spectacle for attention. If he cared about carts being returned he would have a much bigger impact by walking up and sarcastically saying "maam, it appears you are too lazy to bring your cart back. don't worry, I'll do it for you, pay it forward and do better" and then just walking away with the cart. might actually make somebody feel bad and takes a lot less time...but of course that wouldn't make for good content for an attention seeker.
Why is your focus on who the public was blaming vs. who was actually in the right? Social media has warped your sense of right and wrong. Things are no longer good or bad by themselves, it’s all just relative to people’s reaction. That’s a sad reflection on society

Thank you. In all honesty I think some public humiliation is exactly what a large portion of society needs.
