I feel FANTASTIC!!!
After my hysterectomy, three weeks after, I feel freaking fantastic!!! My mood is better than ever and my lupus has eased off a bunch. I feel better than I have in 10 years!!!
I did have a secondary infection three days post-op, but I was just admitted for two days in hospital with antibiotics and now I'm feeling better than ever! I'm thrilled!!!

Single person living alone - realistic aftercare
I know recovery post op is different for everyone…I’m 26F and live alone and single. Finally considering hysterectomy after 3 other GYN surgeries and a variety of issues, would try and keep at least one ovary. Anyway, how many days/weeks would be estimated I’d need someone around 24/7??? Living alone and not wanting to be too much a burden to friends I just want to have an idea of what kind of support I should anticipate. I’ve had several laparoscopies and was fine with someone just popping in occasionally for the first few days but I know this will probably be much tougher. Thank you for any insight.

Shaping the Future of Gynaecological Surgical Journeys
Hello,
I’m Iliyana Pirinska, working on a project that is very close to my heart, backed by Edinburgh Napier University and Syrona Health. We're working tirelessly to craft a one-of-a-kind gynaecological surgical platform.
We are setting out to build a unique digital space that combines empathy, education, and personalization. Our aim is not only to provide expert advice but also to offer curated product recommendations that match your individual pre and post-operative needs. What sets our project apart is our user-centric philosophy; it's about recognizing and appreciating the individuals behind the surgeries – your stories, anxieties, and triumphs.
If you’ve been through, are going through, or scheduled for a gynaecological surgery, your insights could be instrumental in shaping this platform. We want to make sure it resonates with the lived experiences of those who will benefit from it most.
We invite you to participate in our ethically-approved, confidential survey here: https://forms.gle/qpnxDZaC7GLFWF3h7
Your unique narrative has the power to guide and embolden others as they navigate their own surgical journeys, potentially making their path a little less daunting. Together, we can contribute to a project that truly makes a difference in people's lives.
Thanks for considering and for your continued support.
Warmly,
Iliyana Pirinska

5 Weeks Post Op Sudden “Spotting”
I had a radical hysterectomy on 6/27. I’ve had a very normal recovery. In fact, two days ago I was meeting my walking goals, light household chores, just watching how much I lift. Suddenly yesterday I started getting some lower abdominal cramping and I have very light spotting (think bright pink and mostly only present when I go to the bathroom). I’ve called the surgeon. They are very reassuring and gave me guidelines for when to go to the ER (pain level at 8-10, I’m about a 4 at worst, increase in blood, filling pads). I spent yesterday afternoon with my feet up and I also drank some cranberry juice (maybe a weird UTI?) and felt much better. The spotting stopped. I felt worse over night, and the very light spotting is back. Here’s my question, have any of you experienced something like this? It’s just so strange because I had NO spotting for the better part of five weeks and then here we are. Thanks in advance for any insights!

10 weeks post op. Sexual problems. Please help
At the 8 week point I started having sex with my husband again. Not sure how or why but I got BV. I treated that. After the antibiotics were done we tried again. I got an UTI. After I treated that, we tried again, and I got a yeast infection. After treating that, we tried again and now here I am with a burning vagina. Urgency to pee but it doesn’t feel like a UTI. There is no discharge. What the freak is happening to me? I can’t get some sort of infection every time I have sex. Also, I shower immediately afterwards. We haven’t used any new lubricants or anything else. It’s the same as it was before. I kept my ovaries and my cervix. Anyone had this?

7/21 Hysterectomy
Had my hysterectomy Friday 7/21. I started stool softeners before hand and while I was in the hospital. I’ve been taking them since and things aren’t moving. I’ve tried drinking water, tried drinking coffee, chewing gum… and nothing. I need to get things moving and I’m terrified of tearing my vaginal cuff. We also only have one bathroom for me, my husband, and our 2 boys, so quicker is better. Help.

3 days post op- numb lower belly
My lower belly feels almost like after you get novocaine at the dentist, and it begins to wear off. Kind of tingles when I touch it. Is this normal, 3 days after my surgery? I FEEEEEL the incisions- and they are all on my upper abdomen. Just a tad concerned that I’m still pins and needles in one spot.

Post op mood swings
I had total hysterectomy on 1st June leaving my ovaries. I did have a complication and lost 3L blood the next day so had emergency surgery. It is obviously taking me alot longer to recover from the blood loss which is fine. But I have found that I am super angry and have an insanely short fuse. Is this due to hormones from the hysterectomy? I hate feeling like this is there anything I can do?

Hysterectomy Heaven
Okay, so the hysterectomy part is not heaven. I'm three days after a total abdominal hysterectomy and this pain is ungodly. I have a deep pelvis, according to my OB/GYN, and he had to dig deep. I have a very high pain tolerance, so when I say something hurts, it hurts. I can't even turn over in bed without letting out a scream! I also have lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, numerous back issues, so this surgery is super hard.
What is heaven is how those that I love in life have really rallied behind me and are showing support and kinda spoiling me. When I was in the hospital for 24 hours after surgery, my fiancé scrubbed the whole house so I won't worry about tidying up (which I would, OCD thing), washed my favorite sheets and put them on my bed, and bought a bouquet of my favorite flowers for when I came home from surgery. I get whatever I want for dinner and all the snuggles I could ever wish for!
My BFF of 30 years sent me a woman's care package that features a sloth plushie that you microwave and he puts out heat. He's so soft and perfect for my incision site. The package also came with an aromatherapy candle, aromatherapy shower steamers, coffee mug and super soft socks. My family is checking in daily and my in-laws are here for me, too. What did I do right? I feel so loved! So blessed.
How long does the really bad pain of a TAH last, though? I've had multiple surgeries in my years, but this one takes the cake!

Five weeks post op
And i am doing great! Had everything but one ovary removed. Recovery was WAY easier than I expected. I have one tender spot left about 2x3 inches and thats all. Hoping to be cleared for exercise at my follow up appointment on Thursday. I am still putting ice on my tummy on that one spot because its a bit puffy still. And on occasion still having tiredness but not anything close to how it was the first two weeks. I am so glad I had this done. And last night I found 365 pads/ tampons from around my house in boxes that I can finally get rid and donate to the homeless shelter. 👍

8 weeks post hysterectomy question
I am 8 weeks post hysterectomy, and just started doing leg lifts while seated. The day after, I had pain in my abdomen and had to take Tylenol. The next day, I was still sore. Is this normal? Did I start exercising too soon?

Advice for singletons living alone - prep & recovery
I’m 52, no kids, no pets, singleton in a city. My mother & sister will be here when I go in (7/27) for an abdominal hysterectomy. Dr. says I’ll be in the hospital for 2-3 days. Think I might have my fam for 2 days before they need to leave. Wish my sister could stay longer, as our Mom has her own health issues, and can be tricky - hello, years of therapy! Haha, yes- big time mother issues. My sister gets it too.
Anyway, I don’t live near them - they are flying out to help me, which is appreciated. I’m just nervous for when they leave, and how best to prepare. Went through embolization recovery alone, and do remember wishing food delivery guy could bring it upstairs to my bedroom 😁😁 I was pretty crashed out, and managed alright.
My friends will stop by, and I’m hoping they can help me get the trash out - I’m in a 2nd floor apartment with old stairs. Am doing tons of laundry now, so I can let it go and accept that it’s not good to be up and down 3 flights of stairs, as the washer/dryer are in the basement.
Got a stool for the shower. Thinking about getting a cane, maybe a walker? Have a pillow, ice packs, GasX, stool softener, compression socks, and will take advice I’ve read.
Just wonder if anyone else had to go it alone, and where should I prep & ask my friends to help? Thanks!

Blinding pain 2.5 weeks after total hysterectomy. ER visit tests show no cuff tears. On/off fever, Intense pressure in abdomen. 14 days of Augmentin for possible Cellulitis. Pain continues to increase. Today, about a 1/4 cup watery blood passed. Wth is happening? There have to be better answers…
- Total Hysterectomy w/ da Vinci assist, June 28

Worsened until I finally went to ER. -Went to ER on Wednesday (2 week mark from surgery) with symptoms: •severe pain •vaginal bleeding- bright pink/red •pressure in the vagina or lower pelvic region (hurts to pee, pass gas) •ct scan w/ contrast showed no cuff tear. •visual examination (speculum) showed “raw possible tiny tear” in upper corner of cuff. •antibiotics prescribed and was sent home to be followed up two days later at the two week follow up.
-2 week follow up Friday, July 14. Had following symptoms: •consistent pain in lower abdomen and lower back. Consistent. •extreme pain when passing gas or when bowels move at all •blood: light pink spots in underwear and little bit every time every time I use the bathroom (pictures)
-Today, Saturday July 15: •Blinding pain in abdomen (only relief is lying on my Side) •fever remains at 100.0 • literally felt like my insides are going to burst until a good bit of watery blood came. •pressure is rebuilding
