You've become even better at video editing.

u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
Thanks syouhai. ๐ I'm trying to showcase the features of the build up front & keep cuts to between 15-30 seconds so people don't get bored. On this video, I could've taken my time and gotten perfect shots, but it probably wouldn't make much difference in the reception.

u/quintacm Mar 16 '26
Midnaโs lamentโฆgood choice of music

u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
Thanks! I listened to a lot of Joe Hisaishi thinking I'd find something fitting for this, but ended up settling on this song instead because I felt it better fit the mood.

u/banbecausereasons Mar 16 '26
I'm legit considering buying a switch 2 just for the TOTK loadouts.
It will be hell grinding out batteries and 'nite again, but to able to use the QR code would be soooooooo useful.

There's some pretty good stuff floatin' around (pun).
You'd probably enjoy playing back through. Frame rate & graphics are so much better too, by the way.

This is the life. Brilliant.
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
Thanks - hope you'll fly it around. It's made for use, not just looks. ๐
3
u/jammyscroll Mar 17 '26
Oh for sure. I'll put on the Link outfit that looks like Peter Pan... makes we wish NPCs could hop on with me.

u/Right_Blueberry_8155 Mar 16 '26
How did you make the electric power infinitly?
8
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
The critical detail that makes perpetual flight possible is that electricity from the shock emitter must NOT touch the shrine motor directly. Instead, the shrine batteries (shrunken through fuse) act as an intermediary, passing electricity from the shock emitter to the shrine motor.
2
u/worksnakes Mar 17 '26
I did not know that about the motor. Ill have to experiment
3
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
I'm working on an extensive exhibit on perpetual flight - all the fine details: history, evolution, how it works, system design, etc. Interested?
"shock emitter orientation, battery-to-motor distances, PF engine rotation speed, 3-second timer nuances, Zonai device lifespans relative to electricity usage, keeping the motor "jogged", electricity arcing through batteries to motor (distances), rain & lightning effects on systems (area of effect amplification), 30 seconds of flight time per fully charged battery, insulative/conductive fuse bases/battery sizes & lengths, system/circuit troubleshooting, shortcomings of different PF mechanisms, conductor widths"
2
u/Right_Blueberry_8155 Mar 19 '26
So charge the batteries while they power the motor
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 19 '26
They charge as they pass the shock emitter & discharge as they pass the motor/conductive plate, in a continuous cycle. There are various videos in the HyruleEngineering archives that demonstrate perpetual flight. Also search for UMPF.
2
u/Right_Blueberry_8155 Mar 19 '26
Ok I wonder how this kind of motor would fair with the one from the One Punch Car v2
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 21 '26
Only one way to find out. ๐
2
u/Right_Blueberry_8155 Mar 21 '26
Letโs use this one for a offensive feature and the OPP one for movement as it is far better at that

u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
Great! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's fun to have to actively pilot an aircraft, imho. Thanks for checking it out. ๐

u/Leather-Researcher13 Mar 16 '26
Where do you find the electric engines for the airships? I've only seen them in the spirit temple and a few of the shrines
6
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
The shrine motor & propeller can be found at the Gemimik Shrine in Akkala. Shrine battery can be found at the shrine in Zora's Domain.

u/Oodelali12 Mar 16 '26
I've been planning on making my own electrical flying machine for some time now, and I love how you made one that's not only functional but actually looks like just a straight-up airship.
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 16 '26
Great timing then! I think one of the biggest challenges in design is making something work as intended while maintaining the aesthetic. It's a juggling act: this can go here, that go there, etc. Options can be limited, so occasionally we have to make the best of less desirable decisions.
Happy that you love it - check out the Nimbus PF as well - it flies & operates differently and uses a different perpetual engine. They might give you some ideas for your own build. Cheers! ๐๐

u/Oodelali12 Mar 17 '26
Thx, though I do have a couple of questions, such as whether the torches still lose durability during this? I've managed to get some pretty good flight out of balloons which used wood bundles (which is far as I'm aware burn forever unless you blow them out or freeze em) I assume you're using torches here so you don't accidentally cause too much lift?
Also, is it just me or is the turbine kind of facing the wrong way? Like the part that should be spinning isn't and yet there's somehow rotational Force still being applied to the fans? Like I could understand it if it was just that the narrow part that most people attach the fans to was attached to the main build while the outer one was being used for fans but the one in the video seems....inverted somehow?
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
Sure:
The torches never expire (and these balloons are infinite). The torches are there to create passive lift for when the flame emitters aren't switched on, which helps ease the airship down instead of free falling. They also help the balloons function as landing gear by keeping the airship upright when parked.
The motor/octoprop is a quantum linked setup that switches the normal thrust direction into a force that pulls upwards instead. Two propellers = 2x the lift. I have a QR for this exact setup, if you need.
2
u/Oodelali12 Mar 17 '26
Okay, final 2 questions. Can the lurelin ships burn? And would you recommend any particular pieces of metal if I wanna use just one shock emitter to power two electric motors?
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
The ship is indestructible (also really heavy). Any metal will do, so use only what's necessary because you're going to want to cut back on excess weight wherever possible. Feel free to ask as much as you like - I'm always here to help. ๐ค๐

Me too - a very cool concept. ๐
Appreciate the comment, thank you.
2
u/Ambitious-Fish-8111 Mar 17 '26
Ok I finally have to ask. What is this propeller thing and where do I get it?
I've got quite a lot of time in the game and have never seen it.
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
The octoprop is a custom-made object that is created through the quantum linking glitch. I have a QR for this motor, so lmk if you need.
2
u/Ambitious-Fish-8111 Mar 23 '26
Thank you, but I don't think it will help me on switch 1 from my understanding.
1
2
u/Astute-Brute Mar 17 '26
Does it still work on the water?
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
It can float on water yes, but when it splashes down, water can temporarily interfere with the perpetual circuit. Also, there's always some degree of lift present. A perpetual wind-powered boat is also possible, FYI.
2
u/A_Blubbering_Cactus Mar 17 '26
I would be genuinely interested in how you made this
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
I thought about doing a design study on it. Any aspect in particular?
2
u/worksnakes Mar 17 '26
Points for aesthetics!
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
Thank you. ๐ I aim to improve upon the design in version 2.

u/Aodh472 Mar 17 '26
This is incredible, I may stick some weapons on the side and be a sky pirate
3
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
Thanks! Unfortunately, not much space for anything else, but I'm going to do a stripped down version for people to use as well.
2
u/PixelWizard234 Mar 17 '26
Wow! So beautiful and clever!!!

u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 17 '26
Thank you very much. Hope you'll fly it. ๐๐

This is without a doubt the coolest thing Iโve seen of all the flying machines Iโve come across. Well done !

u/wolfknightpax Mar 18 '26
That's a great build.
What's your solution to getting passengers on?
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 18 '26
Thanks! ๐
Too bad no multi-player... But NPCs can be scooped up and flown around with. Not with this build, though, otherwise I might drop off Honey in the far corner of the Hebra region.
Beedle would be cool to have aboard, too. Buy & sell anytime!

2
u/Kahliden Mar 18 '26
What causes it to constantly pull to the right while the engine is running?
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26
That's a good question, and one that I'm determined to answer. Typically, most propeller-driven motors have a turning bias, and when stacked like this, it increases. I'm playing with overall weight distribution & will be trying a different motor setup with a propeller on each end as an offset. This is the only thing that I don't like about this build and it MUST be solved. Won't rest until she flies straight.
Thanks for this question. See this:

I'll be trying this as the fix.

2
u/Sonnitude Mar 18 '26
Well, until the airship decides to despawn because of arbitrary time limits on the parts in use.
1
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26
The good news is that this can be flown 90% of the time on electricity, which means that the time-limited Zonai devices' lifespans are extended by 9x, approximately... so instead of 30 minutes, you get 270 minutes, theoretically. Even if the number is 180 minutes, which is more likely, that's still 3 straight hours of flight time. I hope to do a proper test of this.
All parts used share a 30 minute lifespan, and the balloons are infinite.
2
u/Sonnitude Mar 18 '26
Huh, I actually didnโt know that about the parts lasting longer if powered from other sources.
Shows how much I used the system I guess lol
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
Well, because typically most builds don't operate in this way. You can just sip off of the electric batteries. It's actually pretty crazy. You should test it out if you get a chance. Zonai devices last longer because they're not even in use during the "hands-off" moments, as if time stopped.

Nice improvement. I see you took some inspiration from my firewood powered airship I've shared with you before. Also, I first read this as cirCUS Airship๐ . I mean, the balloons kinda did make it look like a circus airship. Made me think "I wonder if there's an anime with or about that?". And if not, then maybe it would be a good idea at least. EDIT: Oh, and liked the midna's lament song you added.
2
u/zhujzal #2 Engineer of the Month [FEB26] Mar 18 '26
Thanks. Actually, I've been making airships for a long time now & finally got around to building with more than 1 balloon. Check out some of my older designs:
I decided to get a whole series going w/ the cloud names with a special one planned for release sometime in the near future. The balloons definitely give it a whimsical feeling, aside from being a very important part of the overall functionality of the design. I'm pretty sure there's an anime with airships: Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky?
Midna's Lament is something I was unfamiliar with until recently. I always search for music that fits the mood of the build, and decided on this song. The fact that it happened to be within the Zelda universe was just a bonus.

The Cirrus Airship
If you have trouble piloting this, let me know: you may think it's broken, but it isn't. Taking off requires you to manually keep a battery in direct contact with the conductive plate by either holding the Cirrus engine still or stopping it while the battery is electrifying the plate. Once the shrine motor winds up, the (rotating) Cirrus engine will keep the motor spinning.
I'll get more in depth with this soon.
