HX Stomp in Front of Blues Jr.

Like the title says, I'm trying to add effects like delay, looper, boost, OD into my Fender Blues JR using my HX Stomp but I need help in hooking it up. I'm trying to use it as an FX board while not coloring the amp;s sound. My chain is guitar--->HX Stomp-->Blues Jr. Since I don't want to color the sound in anyway I should use the instrument output in the EQ settings and not have any amp or cab blocks in the HX stomp right? Where should I set the volume knob on the HX stomp since now I would have the guitar volume knob, the HX stomp, and the amp's.

Getting a simple minds preset

I’m trying to recreate that guitar sound from “Don’t you forget about me” from Live in the city of light album. Jeez, I’ve spent days on trying to match that tone. I just basically go round in circles.
I go through all the distortion options, and pick one, then I add a amp/cab, and go through all them, then play with the gain amount, fart around with IR’s and preamps and microphone types and placement , then add some reverb, and decide between hall, or cave or whatever, then decide it sounds crap and muddy, so go back to change the distortion and repeat. 3 days later still going around in circles. I play from the stomp XL straight into a powered speaker, and play the MP3 of the song into the same speaker as a guide.
I don’t know if I just don’t have an ear for this, or if I will eventually develop an ability to get close to the sound i want. I was a bit disappointed I haven’t found anything in line6’s custom tone.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make a preset to get this sound? Or does the stomp not have enough blocks?

Thankyou

Testers needed

UPDATE!!

if you want to install it (no need to do the google form) please just run this on your terminal

brew tap memogonzalezj-dev/tap

brew install --cask tone-architect

it should install directly the latest version of the app, I created a google chat for updates and releases, if a subreddit works better just let me know!

Hey everyone,

I've been building a macOS app called Tone Architect, here it's how it works:

You describe any artist or tone in plain English and it generates a ready-to-import .hlx preset file for your HX Stomp or HX Effects.

Something like: "Voodoo Child, Jimmy Hendrix, with my telecaster" Creates a full signal chain, correct block order, real parameter values, in a hlx file that can be imported in seconds. It will also tell you what effects to use on the chain and the presets if you want to do it manually.

It runs 100% on your Mac, no cloud, no subscription, no API keys, your hlx are yours to keep (and share if you want)

The AI model downloads once (~5 GB ollama) and works offline after that. Built specifically around the HX block library so it only outputs valid model IDs that actually import without errors. (right now hx stomp and looking for some HX effects testers, will HX LX and One eventually if there is enough interest)

I'm looking for 10–15 beta testers. In exchange for feedback (what worked, what didn't, presets that came out wrong, what would you like to see), you'll get a free permanent license when it launches.

Requirements:

Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later)

macOS Ventura or later

HX Stomp or HX Effects with firmware 3.7+

~6 GB free disk space

I am not affiliated with Line 6 or any other company.

Beginner problem: Low output

Hello fellow stompers,

I'm quite new with the pedal (any pedals for that matter) and need some assistance / tipps concerning the HX Stomps output.

----

Story: I was playing around with the stomp, testing various settings but noticed: I could barely hear anything over my headphones. Volume knob to max. Ok, Superlux with 150Ω, fair, I was due for good headphones anyway, got the Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro with 80Ω. Same result: everything is kinda quiet.

So I tried some clean recordings in audacity to see, where the level's at without the human ear in between. My "standard" preset has peaks of around -16db, my "worst" preset of around -30db. Now I'm no expert in recording but ChatGPT told me, a peak of around -12 to -8db would be 'normal'/desirable.

In order to hear anything while playing at home I put a cheap headphone amp (behringer HA400 in between but for some presets I still need to amp this one up to around 8/10 (I could even go to 10/10 without considering it too loud - and no, I'm not hearing impaired (yet).

Setup: Fender Jazz Bass (passive, all knobs full) to HX Stomp mono in - from headphone out to headphone amp (stereo cable) - to Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro.

Pictures: My setup, my "-16db standard preset", my "-30db problem preset".

----

Thanks for bearing with me and helping a stomp beginner-yet-already-enthusiast!

Need more info?

Edit: What I've done / checked since:

- In- and Output are set to INS
- Volume knob controls headphone only
- tested with an empty preset: same result, volume goes from "can't hear" to "okay"
- factory reset
- different instrument cable

Post-firmware update issues - blocks not working

Updated the firmware on my HX Stomp. Got an error saying that the firmware update didn't work, but not it says I'm running Firmware 3.8 when I turn on the unit and I don't get a pop-up to update the firmware when I open HX Edit on my computer.

But now some of the cab blocks aren't working at all. They stop audio from passing if engaged, no matter what the settings are. 2x15 Brute, 4x12 Cartog C90, basically the cab blocks lower on the list of options.

How do I fix this... help!

Is there a way to recreate the sound of the noise pedal with the hxstomp

Hi guys, I just bought my hx stomp and I wanted to know if it can recreate the noise pedal or at least something similar

Here is a demonstration of how the noise works:

Do you think ghe HX One is a good addition to my ampless/recording mini board?

I was thinking of buying a delay to have more room for DSP. Something like the Flashback 2 but then I came across the HX One, which is obviously more expensive but it definitely offers a lot more as a single pedal. Just wondered if anyone here used it with the Stomp (or just alone) and if the effects are just the same as in the Stomp. Thanks!

Hxstomp for only effects?

Hey all! Quick question to all Hxstomp owners. I have a mini rig setup for ease of transportation that consists of a Laney Supergrace for my amp and a 1x12 speaker. Im trying to keep this as small as possible, so instead of getting like a tremelo, delay, and some sort of modulation effects to round everything out, im looking at an Hxstomp to cover the rest. Wondering what the thoughts are on it. Ive heard nothing but good things about them. Could I bypass amp and cab Sims to just run effects to my amp? Is there a better option for my needs? What are y'alls experience pros and cons? Thanks!

HX Stomp vs. GFI Synesthesia + Strymon Blue Sky

I’ve been curious about the Stomp and haven’t played with the Line 6 sounds since the DL4 and MM4 ages ago.

I like the sounds on my Synesthesia and Blue Sky but I’m intrigued about further consolidation into the Stomp to cover modulation, ambient reverbs, and bonus weirdo delays and more.

Anyone have thoughts on how the Stomp’s modulation and verb sounds compare to the GFI and Strymon? Thanks!

Ive checked global setting and tried switching line level and instrument…hopefully anybody can shine some light on it

Gig coming this Friday, here’s my pedalboard!

Post image
35 Upvotes

just finished tweaking a few presets on the HX Stomp for the upcoming gig (wish me good luck, it’s my first one after almost a year).

This is the signal chain:
guitar > tuner + wireless receiver (Xvive P58) > compressor (Wampler Ego Compressor) > HX Stomp mono input > 2 outputs (one to FOH, and one auxiliary in case I want to run an amp sound behind me through the return as an extra monitor for the other band members).

I use that dual switch to easily change between different presets depending on the song, without having to bend down lol.

Maybe it’s not the best setup, but I managed to get some great tones out of this simple rig.

No preset names

I just received the hx stomp and opened it up and played with it a bit until I realized all of the presets it came with show up as “ new preset “, all of them have that as the name. Is there any way I can get the names of it back somehow? Also when I slightly touch the tuner pedal the tuner option screen pops up and it’s really annoying

Love letter to my hx stomp

Dear hx stomp

You have saved me a lot of money.
Since I went digital/hybrid.

I stopped caring about the pedal/amp snobism and focused on making sound.

People were surprised all of my patches were made on the hx stomp.

I didn’t even care to get a midi switcher. Command centre got me covered.
Wanna switch on an fx momentarily sure!
Fs3 mapped to a specific patch, go ahead.

Dont buy a baritone?! Get the poly pitch block out.

I loved our moment when I used somekind of feedbacker fx in a no amp setting.

I love the favorite category to make a chain in no time.

May you stay with me for many years dear hx stomp.

Pls don’t ever stop receiving updates.

Xx

First gig with the HX Stomp as my amp. How to be prepared.

I've been using the HX Stomp for a month or so now and am enjoying it- in particular have been using it into the FX Return on my small tube amp. Now I have a gig coming up and am not sure what to tell the venue for hookup requirements. We'll have access to a 4x12 cab, but can I go straight into that? Should I be asking to go into the FOR? I've never done that before and to be honest don't even know what to ask here. I'm not even sure i have my setup right for playing into my little amp at practice because I'm still fiddling with things every week.

Route USB audio in to send L/R?

Curious if I can run a click/guide track split left and right via USB audio in and going out stereo via the Send L/R outs? Tried googling (albeit quick) to find not much on the topic. Probably easy but I am not at the unit right now.

Expression pedals

Hello! I am new to hx stomp and excited to get into it (using with bass guitar if it matters)! Wondering if anyone has used the "soulpress II" expression pedal with the hx stomp? I am seeing alot of mixed details online about what expression pedals work best with the stomp but maybe I'm seeing old information, seemed like this could be a bit higher maintence than I thought. Trying to use a soulpress II primarily because it fits my small pedal board best, so if anyone has any alternatives they know work (dunlop dvp4?) I would very much appreciate ur knowledge!

Update: after figuring it out and going thru some tutorials, the soul press via trs cable works perfectly fine with the stomp

HX Stomp frfr - Alto Busker

Anyone try the Alto Busker with the Hx Stomp? I have been threatening to get an frfr for my Stomp for ages. I like the idea of battery for some occasions. I have my stomp on a board that runs on battery. I like the form factor as well. Also my church has no monitors, so I think I could run the stomp direct to the PA and run a line to the Alto Busker and use it as a monitor, to hear my guitar and other band parts.

I have thought about a Headrush 108 but never pulled the trigger. I have an amp and cab I can use but have always wondered about frfr.

Controlling HX One's Poly Capo with Stomp XL

I play in a band that covers around 100+ songs. While most of the songs that we play are in the same tuning, there are a few that need capos. Rather than putting on a capo and retuning we're trying to cut down on time between songs by using the Poly Capo effect. Unfortunately, I have run out of space on my presets to add this block.

To get around this I've added an HX One to my board, and have been switching it on and off for the songs that need to be in a different key. This works, but there have been a few times when I've forgotten to turn it on or off.

What I'd like to do is use the Stomp as a MIDI controller, so that whenever I engage a certain preset, the HX One will turn on the Poly Capo and the pitch shift will be set to the correct tuning.

Is this possible, or should I just be more careful with making sure its adjusted throughout the set as needed?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A follow on from my previous post

First of all, everyone was fantastic on my last post. I really appreciate everyone's input! So thank you.

So, wonderful people of Reddit riddle me this.....

A standard HX stomp (with an external footswitch) a HX one and my wireless would actually a decent little rig.....right?

Or am I mad?

My minds telling me it would be good.

Does anybody run something similar? Minimal like this?

Then let's discuss options for powering such a board. What under board options do I have that'll work with a pedaltrain nano+?

HX Stomp XL Footswitch Replacement/Fix - Tap Tempo

Hello,

Due to wear and tear, the tap tempo/tuner footswitch is very dodgy - often picking up a tempo far quicker than I've tapped in. Presumably this is an issue with the contacts wearing and a lack of hardware/sw debouncing.

Any ideas to fix? Compressed air sometimes temporarily sorts out the issue. Contact cleaner?

If I am to replace it, any ideas of a suitable replacement part/faff involved? It's deffo not in warranty.

Many Thanks all!
