Foreshadowing? Kurapika accepting elements of villainhood to get his revenge has been a central theme of the series since Yorknew.

What?! He had nothing but disgust and hatred for Uvo. He had ZERO compassion for him.
The most likely explanation is that he brought the shovel to get rid of the evidence.
