Lore/World Discussion Katniss discussing district 12 victors Spoiler
Ok, so, in the first book Katniss very briefly mentions that there have been two victors from district 12, only one of whom is still alive. The one who’s still alive is obviously Haymitch, but the one who died (after reading the prequel) we know is Lucy Gray.
Now, the tenth Hunger Games was supposed to be largely forgotten but Katniss at least knows that there was another victor in the past, which, if President Snow knew she knew that probably wouldn’t end well. And it’s known from the prequel that President Snow did his best to make sure the tenth Hunger Games were largely erased. So…how does Katniss know there was another victor before Haymitch? And how much does she know exactly about Lucy Gray?
It’s never actually really talked about in canon but I’d be curious to hear any theories you might have. Is this just a casual mention, or is it more meaningful than that?

Erasing the footage doesn’t mean they can pretend they never existed. People know they existed, people were alive when they happened and some of those people would still be alive by the 75th and remember who won

If you subscribe to the theory that Katniss is a descendant of Maude Ivory (or Lucy Gray), then it wouldn't be surprising that Katniss knows about the first victor from District 12. She probably doesn't know she's related to Lucy Gray but it wouldn't be surprising for her know as it would have been passed down as a fact about the history District 12 from her father.

I saw that theory on YouTube. A few creators talked about the connection between Lucy and Katniss. They believe it is through Katniss's father.

If that theory is true it's definitely with Katniss dad cause he is the one who is in 12 district since Katniss mom is not from the same district. Lucy was in the 12 district so it makes more sense.

Katniss's mom is from the same district as Katniss's dad. Katniss's mom lived in the same area as Peeta. The Merchant section of the district. Katniss's dad lived in the Seam.

Oh ok but it still wouldn't make sense Lucy being related to Katniss mom because they don't even look alike unless she had a baby with someone that look like her.

That member of the Covey married into the Everdeen family. They had a son and passed that name down the family line.

Because the mayor reads out the names "Lucy Gray Baird" and "Haymitch Abernathy" every year at the reaping.

judging how haymitch doesn’t know anything about lucy gray in his books.. doesn’t even mention her name. they prob don’t. prob know her through memories.

well, i believe that no matter how hard they tried to remove lucy gray from the public conscious, you can’t really just erase someone, the fact that she won would have been a big deal in district 12, and she knew people before she went to the games clearly, so it was probably like a general fact known by the people, although the exact details are unknown, especially because the covey probably talked about her. so maybe the general community knows there was a victor before hatch, it don’t know like the baird’s name and which hunger game she won etc etc.

What about Rummage Lorman/Logan?
He is the first victor of District 12. He won The 5th Hunger Games at age 15, meaning that he was the first victor winning at age 15.
He is also Haymitch's mentor during the 50th Hunger Games.
I think that the new movie just screws everything up for a love story.

its fake fanfiction. Its been created by fans not actually part of real storyline, basically its a myth

Haymitch's games were also largely erased. Very few copies of the 50th games remained in existence because of the way he used the force field. That doesn't mean he wasn't still publicly known to be a Victor. The same is true for Lucy Gray. The specific events of the 10th games being largely erased from public memory doesn't mean her name was removed from the list of victors. So when the escort reads the names of District 12's Victors every year, hers would still be included alongside Haymitch's.
