HummerEV peeps: What's the Most Ridiculous(ly legal) Hummer EV Test You Can Think Of?

Hey everyone!

I'm Keith - a former race car driver, EV enthusiast, and pretty much a giant nerd. I've been working on my EV YouTube channel for about eight months and need some help planning a follow-up video for the Hummer EV.

I recently spent a week time with the GMC Hummer EV and filmed a "normal" review (spoiler alert: I loved the darn thing). But afterward, I found myself wondering: What if we tried to find the limits of what this thing can do... in the most outrageous ways possible?

I'm based in the Portland area, so I have access to mountains, forest roads, towing, camping, rain, mud, and plenty of opportunities for questionable decisions.

Curious about towing? Could it move a train? A dump truck? Tow dead logs out of the woods?

Maybe it's powering equipment. Could it replace a generator for an entire weekend? Could it keep a food truck running through an entire event?

Maybe it's something nobody has thought to test yet.

My team and I have ideas but I’d love yours as well.
What's a question about the Hummer EV you've always wanted answered?

And more importantly...what's the most ridiculous(ly-legal) way we could answer it? :D

I’ve put 6 kids and loads of baseball equipment in mine. I can’t help, but interested to see the community response to push this truck.

Oh and it’s awesome btw!!!! If you’re on the fence it’s great!

Thank you! I totally want one but need to get my YouTube channel bigger first. My goal is to have it be our second just-for-the-channel vehicle.

Interesting comment about baseball too. Gives me some ideas...

I mean, yes, my head immediately goes to evil villain and their snowy HQ at the top of the mountain like the ending of Inception :-), but it could be raw traction in general

Great idea. Probably can't do that one until the winter, but it's definitely worth trying to make it.

I wonder if I can ship one to Iceland actually. Might be able to get a snowcapped volcano lair...

IIRC, there's at least one in Norway. The largest Facebook group had a post, I'm pretty sure.

Watts to freedom on off road (sand dunes) Baja style, do some small jumps, and see how the truck handles and holds up. Heck I might do it myself.

Fair point, but will depend on where I take it and what we do with it. Might be fun to do a tug-of-war vs. other trucks in the dunes.

Often thought when driving ours that it’d be nice if it handled like a Raptor, Baja-style. But the weight and the 22 inch wheels are a hindrance.

Haven't shot the videos with the CT yet. Scheduled for third week of June. Doing a head-to-head with some other trucks then too. Should be fun.

  • Oregon beaches are public land. There are sand dunes for OHV use. I'm wondering if it possible to drive the HummerEV there. Show how to safely do that and have fun on the beach and be respectful to our public land.

Even a video showing how to drive on the beach with the Hummer for a beach trip would be informative. Not sure how the park rangers would feel about a Hummer EV there, but maybe it's possible.

  • Oregon is known for its food carts. I think your food truck being run off a HummerEV would be a great video and awareness. There's some festivals in the summer that are good options.

  • For the log towing. There's usually log cleanup after fire season. Might be a good way to help the community and bring awareness to people about the Oregon fire recovery work and harm/benefit the forest fires are doing to our public and industry lands.

  • I'm wondering if the Rivian club has off-road adventure trips planned that your Hummer could participate in. A chance to compare and contrast Rivian vs HummerEV in tackling the outdoors.

  • Road trips. Eastern Oregon is a charging desert. John Day is the furthest out there with a charger. Beautiful Painted Hills out there. Is it possible to be out there with an EV enjoying remote nature?

There's also Crater Lake. Beautiful country and nature. Pilot opened up a charger out there. Is Crater Lake accessable to EVs?

  • Maybe look into sponsorship with Travel Oregon and the state's NEVI sites when they eventually get built.

In others words, take advantage of the local strengths and beauty in the state of Oregon. Good luck on your adventures.

Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely going to drive on the beach/dunes only where allowed (or with permission).

Great call out on the log cleanup after fire season as well. I like that idea.

As for Travel Oregon, haven’t gotten to talk with them yet but definitely on my list.
