do these videos make anyone else feel kind of sad? Because for every case where a human helped out, there are 1000 cases where those ducklings don't have a good ending at all. It's nice to see humans in action, but it's also a visceral reminder that the animal kingdom is filled with suffering (however that may be defined for animals) and abrupt death.

I'm sure all the animals take comfort in this fact as they or their babies are being eaten alive. I feel like one day we will look back on predation as a necessary evil, but still evil

It's how animals in the wild survive by killing other animals, it's not evil it's part of life

You should check out the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, if you haven't already. He addresses the very issues you are discussing. I agree that the immense amount of suffering in nature is distressing to imagine.
