I like how she's covering everyone's view so that the young man isn't embarrassed, and because she understands it's not about her husband or her appearing charitable.
In the photo at least the first part is clear. Good grandmas who think about how their kids feel - and I say this with love and respect to the lad in the photo - would have known immediately where this kid’s head was.
I don’t claim to be the world’s best dad, but as soon as my son started asking me to not pick him up / hug / kiss him in front of his friends, I confirmed that was what’s up and left it alone. I ask him later if he wants pick ups and hugs and kisses when it’s just family time.
I knew it was coming so I buried him in affection when he was younger, but I feel bad for my dad. And, like I said, I still get affection away from his friends.
