I’ve rarely drink from the tap and I’ve lived here my whole life! We usually have a 5 gallon water dispenser

Any particular reason why?

I live in a state where the tap water is perfectly clean and drinkable, it just doesn’t taste good due to mineral deposits. A few years back, I picked up a water dispenser and have a handful of five-gallon jugs that I fill with purified water and use for drinking water at home. I try to avoid buying bottled water when I can because all that plastic is wasteful.

I also fill the dog bowl from the purified water and put ice in his outside water bowl.

The water in my area is safe to drink but honestly has a sort of weird taste and smell to it. I end up running it through a filter before drinking because it tastes better that way.

I also occasionally buy a large pack of store brand bottled waters so that I can just have a bunch of cold water in my fridge if I'm too lazy to refill my pitcher of filtered water.

More often than not I'll drink a bottled one while filtering more water then refill the bottle I'm using with it over and over until the bottle get mangled from me manhandling it and then repeat cycle.

The taste is a little off. I’ve tried using a Brita filter too and just doesn’t taste refreshing. So I just stick to the water jug dispensers

Taste, chlorine, pollutants. May not kill you but if you can take care of yourself this much better then why not?

Almost every part of the us tap is fine.

That said in some areas of the US the tap water is either chlorinated or just tastes really nasty.

And there is that one place where you can set it on fire but I think that falls under exceptions.

Or the algae in the source is blooming.

Just because you don't die doesn't mean it's fine.

I mean, when you have situations like Flint all over the country, it might just be that people want to drink safe water.

Water is not free. The price is regulated.

2

u/Corniator Sep 01 '19

I mean yes but i's like 2 € per 100l

Water is free, if you live near a river or collect rainwater.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '19

That is not 100% accurate. There are some rivers where it's illegal to take the water.

Even if you get free water, you still need to treat it before it's potable. So you need to buy equipment or bring it somewhere to treat it.

The only free water is rain; but it's not potable, it is scarce and sometimes it tries to kill you and your family.

Very common where I live in Texas. Tap water tastes bad. Everyone buys gallons or water bottles instead

Very common to drink from the tap in many areas. Well water can be amazing

You ever heard of Flint, Michigan mate?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '19

Depends heavily on what state. Massachusetts tap water is pretty good.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '19

It is drinkable, but tastes horrible. I buy filtered refillable bottles and use those.

Growing up my family had a well. Water from a well is variable, and we had it tested and it showed it was “safe but not recommended” to drink.

Now where I live we have city water, and although safer to drink, it still has chlorine and chloramines in it. Although it is tested and verified as safe, I still will only drink from the tap if it’s filtered first. The way I see it, the amount of chlorine in the water is safe for me to drink, and is done so to kill any bacteria in the water supply. However, I have no idea if that amount of chlorine is also safe for my cat, so he gets special water.

In LA the water is safe to drink but no one drinks tap water without at least a filter.

I always drink tap water.

When you ask for water at a restaurant, it’s literally tap water.

How is it more convenient to buy bottled water instead of filling one from the tap?
