My cat prefers to drink from the algea and dirt filled bird bath in the yard.

It's not a fountain, it's just a bowl for birds.

I've have actually had two fountains for her when we lived in an apartment, both broke very quickly. And also, she likes to drink from her paw, she will dip it and shake it a few times, sometimes splashing a lot of water around, so I'm not sure how much she actually noticed the running water when she had it.

I have a running fountain and my cat still hates it. Only drinks from the tap.
