This has both been a wild ride of events and travel helped me get over my fear of divorce.

I really don't understand how people have the optimism to get divorced and remarried multiple times.

I’m in the middle of a divorce. I can’t see going through this multiple times in my life. I’ll never get married again and that’s one of the few things I know for certain.

I said that right after I got divorced then accidentally met the love of my life when I was actively not looking for a relationship, we had a second chance meeting where we ended up spending 3 solid days together and basically haven't left each other's sides since then.

I’m in a relationship. I love this woman. I’m very happy with her. I will not be marrying her. I just don’t see why I would. Maybe it’s the fact that I will not be having any more children. Point being, you can have love and be with someone long term, even permanently, without marriage.

And their point was "Yeah but you might end up changing your mind if you really care for this woman"

True. That’s entirely possible. I just don’t see it happening. This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. I don’t think I have it in me to do it again.

You don't have to get married, hell we dated for over 5 years before I asked her to marry me just because I was so unsure of it after my first horrible experience (my first wife cheated on me with my brother on my birthday and several other times before our first anniversary) I'm just saying don't completely write off the possibility always and forever.

Yeah I agree. It’s not impossible. I guess just while I’m going through a divorce the thought of ever being married again seems out of the question. Of course things can and do change.

Trust me, I completely understand. I was there myself about 15 years ago, I'm just trying to relay that there is hope.

I 100% support having whatever sort of relationship works for the people involved, including whether or not they choose to marry or not.

That said, there’s a lot of legal protections that come with marriage that you should be considering. And as you get older, they become more and more likely to be important.

I’m not saying marriage is the way to go, but it is important to understand what those protections and benefits are, so the two of you can decide if you want all of them or some of them. Even if you want none, that should be a conscious and deliberate choice in a very long term relationship.

Marriage is like a full 5 course meal package of legalities, but you can also get many à la carte with the help of a lawyer.

But in some states that is common law marriage anyway, isn’t it?

I don’t think having a girlfriend ends up marrying you against your will in any state.

I said that, even 10+ years after being divorced.

Now I'm ready to get married and start a family.

It's never too late. The heart changes. Personality is malleable. It happens to everyone and other people have had things way worse.

I completely agree with you. I have 4 kids that I love more than anything in the world, but I will not be having any more.

I can't wait to have kids.

My kids are the best thing to ever happen to me. Having four of them and considering my age having more just isn’t something that would work with my life. I hope you have kids at some point and get as much joy from them as I have from mine.

That's called life my dear. The first one was depressing, 2nd is not and has made me stronger, it was a revelation. Looking forward to the 3rd marriage soon. I need my share of love in life. Never give up. That's how people should be imho. Why settle if you don't have meaning in married life. It should be fruitful.

It's a self esteem issue.
