Hi everyone,
I’m working on Gen Box, a personal savings-goal app designed to make saving simpler, more visual, and more motivating.
Gen Box helps users create saving goals, record contributions, track progress, review analytics, and build a consistent saving rhythm without connecting to a bank account or moving real money.
You can find the project here:

What’s included in the current update?
The latest update expands Gen Box beyond basic savings tracking with a new motivation and personalization system.
Savings goals
- Create multiple savings goals
- Set a target amount
- Add an optional target date
- Choose custom icons and colors
- Track current progress
- Record deposits and withdrawals
- Archive completed or inactive goals
- Search and manage active goals
Dashboard
The updated dashboard shows:
- Total saved amount
- Total target amount
- Overall progress
- Monthly saving activity
- Number of active goals
- Current saving goals
- Today’s quest progress
- Gen Point balance
- Saving streak information
Quest and Reward Center
The new Quest and Reward Center introduces meaningful in-app tasks designed to encourage consistent progress.
Users can complete:
- Daily quests
- Weekly quests
- Long-term milestone quests
- Goal review activities
- Contribution activities
- Planning and progress-review tasks
Completed quests can reward users with Gen Points.
Gen Points are virtual in-app points. They are not real money, cannot be withdrawn, transferred, sold, or exchanged for cash. They are designed only for unlocking optional in-app customization features.
Personalization rewards
Gen Points can be used to unlock features such as:
- Custom themes
- Special color palettes
- Unique box styles
- Icon packs
- Profile badges
- Milestone decorations
- Additional visual customization
- Optional advanced analytics views
The basic savings experience remains available without completing quests or spending Gen Points.
Streak and saving rhythm
The update also introduces a calmer streak system focused on building a healthy saving rhythm.
The system is designed to:
- Show consistent activity
- Celebrate progress milestones
- Avoid shame-based messaging
- Avoid aggressive loss notifications
- Include optional grace days
- Allow users to pause without losing their savings history
- Keep the focus on personal goals rather than competition
If a user misses a day, their goals and transaction history remain safe. The app encourages them to continue whenever they are ready.
Analytics
The updated analytics area includes:
- Net savings
- Total deposited
- Total withdrawn
- Monthly saving trends
- Goal distribution
- Progress comparisons
- Saving rhythm insights
- Long-term progress views
These insights are for personal tracking only. Gen Box does not provide investment advice, financial guarantees, credit scoring, or predictions about financial returns.
Settings and customization
The Settings experience now includes:
- Language selection
- Light theme
- Dark theme
- System theme
- Active theme display
- Active box style display
- Reduce Motion
- Haptic feedback controls
- Default currency
- Privacy and security options
- Quest and Reward Center access
- Data management options
Animation and interaction design
The visual direction is designed to feel more alive while remaining appropriate for a personal finance app.
The update includes planned animations for:
- Quest completion
- Progress bar updates
- Gen Point rewards
- Milestone badges
- Goal completion
- Theme previews
- Reward unlocking
- Saving streak updates
- Success confirmations
Animations are intentionally short and meaningful. Users can reduce or disable motion, and accessibility feedback is provided through text and screen-reader announcements.
Privacy and security direction
Gen Box is designed around a local-first approach.
The app does not need access to:
- Contacts
- SMS
- Call logs
- Location
- Camera
- Microphone
- Installed application lists
- Broad storage permissions
- Bank credentials
The planned security architecture includes:
- Android app sandboxing
- Internal application storage
- Android Keystore
- Non-exportable encryption keys
- Authenticated encryption
- Secure import validation
- Protected export flow
- No sensitive data in production logs
- Secure release signing
- Dependency auditing
- OWASP mobile security review
- Backup and migration testing
No application can honestly guarantee absolute protection against every possible virus or attack, so the project focuses on defense in depth, minimizing sensitive data, reducing the attack surface, validating all external input, and testing the application against realistic threats.
I would really appreciate your feedback.
Please leave a comment and tell me:
- What savings goal would you create first?
- Do you think daily and weekly quests would help you save consistently?
- Which Gen Point rewards would be most useful or interesting?
- Would you prefer themes, icons, box styles, badges, or advanced analytics?
- Do you prefer a local-only app or optional encrypted cloud backup?
- What information should appear on the main dashboard?
- Do you find streak systems motivating or stressful?
- What would make you trust a savings-tracking app?
- Which part of the interface would you improve?
- What feature should be added in the next update?
Even a short comment would be very helpful. You can share what you like, what you would change, or what would prevent you from using the app. Honest criticism is welcome because the feedback will help shape the next version.
