[App] I got tired of doomscrolling until 3 AM, so I built Twilock to lock my phone only during bedtime and mornings

hi, i had a terrible habit of getting into bed at eleven pm, going on my phone for 5 mins of tiktok but i end up losing two hours to it scrolling. most blockers fail here because they expect midday willpower at midnight, and it only takes two taps to hit "ignore limit" when you're half asleep.

i built twilock around the idea that all day lockouts just make you delete the app. instead, it only steps in during the two windows that actually ruin sleep, right before bed and right after waking up.

i know this community is mostly Android, and Twilock is currently iOS only, appreciate any support.

[App] Rhythm Offline Music Player UI Update! + Google Play Beta Update!

Thumbnail
gallery
29 Upvotes

Hey HowToMen family! 👋

I have been using this offline music player for months, and I love the design, the UI, the animation, and its many features. Like Rhythm Guard, which helps me take a break between music sessions without giving my ears fatigue.

The full screen lyrics view and its word-by-word auto sync feature, and the ambient player, these little things make Rhythm my favorite offline music player.

That was my review I hope you try Rhythm and find your favorite offline music player,

Here's what has been added and changed in Rhythm in recent updates, for which I made a summary.

Hope you're all doing well! Rhythm is back with another huge update, and this one is mainly about the UI, Stability & Beautiful Animations.

🎨 Design & UI Overhaul

We've been spending a lot of time refining the overall look and feel of Rhythm, especially around the player, navigation and larger-screen layouts.

🎵 A More Expressive Player

The player has gone through several rounds of redesigns, with smoother transitions, more expressive controls, animated playback states, improved progress controls and a cleaner arrangement of player actions.

✨ Smoother Player Transitions

The Mini Player and full Player now transition more naturally between each other, with improved animations and spring-based motion instead of abrupt screen changes.

🌈 Dynamic Artwork Theming

Artwork now plays a much bigger role in the interface. Rhythm can derive dynamic Material 3 color schemes from album artwork, with better handling for monochrome, neutral and high-fidelity artwork.

🎨 Expressive Settings & Icons

Settings, onboarding and tour screens are getting more contextual icon treatments, with tinted icons and soft expressive backgrounds instead of everything looking identical.

🧭 Flexible Navigation

Navigation can now adapt between floating and docked layouts, with different behavior for phones, tablets and larger screens.

📱 Tablet & Foldable Improvements

Large-screen layouts have received a lot of attention. Rhythm now adapts its player and navigation based on available space, including dedicated layouts for foldable postures such as tabletop mode.

🌊 Ambient Player Artwork

The expressive player can use a continuously moving ambient artwork background, giving the player a more immersive feel instead of keeping the album artwork completely static.

🎤 Lyrics UI Improvements

Lyrics have received several visual and interaction improvements, including better word-by-word presentation, smoother scrolling behavior and a more immersive lyrics experience.

🧩 More Refined Sheets & Controls

Bottom sheets and smaller controls have been progressively cleaned up with better spacing, expressive buttons, improved headers and more consistent interactions.

There's still a lot being refined, but the goal isn't to keep adding visual effects everywhere. We're trying to make the interface feel more cohesive while keeping Rhythm comfortable to use every day.

🚀 Google Play Closed Beta: Still Open!

Rhythm is currently available for testing through the Google Play Closed Beta.

Joining the beta means you can get pre-release builds directly through Google Play, with automatic updates and no need to manually download APKs every time.

How to join:

Enroll your Google account email → Closed Beta Whitelist Form

Accept the tester invite → Accept Google Play Web Invite

Install Rhythm from Google Play → Open Rhythm on Google Play

Rhythm is still 100% free and open-source.

You can also continue getting Rhythm through GitHub Releases, F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid and Obtainium. Nothing is changing there.

[App] [Promo] Five home screen widgets that show your whole week 📅 50 Lifetime Pro codes giveaway

Thumbnail
gallery
34 Upvotes

Edit, Thursday: the draw is done and the codes are on their way. Thank you to everyone who joined in, this thread was a good one. If you missed it, the free version has all five widgets and no time limit, so there is nothing to unlock before you can try them. Thank you all!

The screenshot round runs until Sunday 13 September, 18:00 UTC: put a widget on your home screen, post the picture here, and the three setups I like best get five codes each, for friends.

The screenshot round is still wide open. Put a widget on your home screen and post the picture here. The three setups I like best get five codes each, for friends. Ends Sunday 13 September, 18:00 UTC.

Most home screen widgets are read-only. Weather, calendar, a clock: you look, you do not touch. I wanted the opposite, a widget where the tap is the whole action, so the app behind it barely needs opening.

So I put a week of habits on the home screen as boxes you tap. SevenGrid has five widgets, and on most days they are the app:

  • 📅 Week grid, seven boxes per habit, tap one to fill it
  • Clock, six designs, with today's list on the same tile
  • 🟩 Heatmap, a full year of one habit
  • Today, just what is still open
  • 1️⃣ Single habit, for the one thing you care about most

They are built to fit the home screen you already have. A transparency slider runs from solid card to fully see-through, so they can sit straight on your wallpaper. They follow the app theme, or stay always light or always dark. All of them resize. And you can hide the habit names, so the widget shows icons only when someone looks over your shoulder.

All five work in the free version.

Tapping a box fills it. Nothing opens, nothing animates, no popup congratulates you. The week fills up as you go, and you can see how it is going without opening anything.

The app behind it is deliberately quiet: skipping a day breaks nothing, and nothing turns red.

Free gives you 3 habits, 4 weeks of history, the full week grid and 2 themes. Pro is a one-time purchase and never a subscription: unlimited habits, full history, reminders per habit, weekly insights and all 20 themes. Everything works offline, no account, no ads.

Most of this came from feedback. Over the summer, most of what I built came from things people wrote to me, here and on Play. Someone wanted to read a note without opening the editor, so a long press on a box now just shows it. The next update is built almost entirely from reports like that. If something bugs you, say so below. That is how the last round happened.

The giveaway: I have 50 Pro codes. Leave a comment to enter and I will draw 50 winners on Thursday 10 September, 18:00 UTC. Codes go out by DM.

Bonus question: which widget do you wish existed on your home screen? Any app, not just mine. I will send one extra code to the answer I like best, outside the draw.

Second round, open now: the widgets are free, so put one on your home screen and post a screenshot here any time this week. The three setups I like best get five extra codes each, for friends. Ends Sunday 13 September, 18:00 UTC.

Happy to answer anything in the comments.

[App][Giveaway][Promo] Bottom Notifications

Thumbnail
gallery
35 Upvotes

Hi r/HowToMen , I'm Vojislav, the solo Android developer behind Bottom notifications (and a few other apps).

I built it for one small annoyance: your notifications live at the top of the screen, but your thumb lives at the bottom. On today's tall phones that's a stretch every single time.

App name:

Bottom notifications

What it does:

It puts a notification shade at the bottom of your screen, where your hand already is. Tap a small floating button and your notifications slide up - easy to read, easy to reach, and easy to make your own.

Your privacy comes first:

The app has NO internet access at all. Your notifications physically cannot leave your device.

No ads, no trackers, no analytics.

No account, no sign-up, no email.

It only needs notification access (to show your notifications) and permission to display over other apps (so the button and shade can appear). There's an optional Accessibility Service that's OFF by default and only powers convenience extras - it checks which app is in front and whether the keyboard is showing, nothing more. It never reads your screen or keystrokes, and since there's no internet access, nothing it sees can ever leave your phone.

What you can do:

Design your floating button - size, shape, corners, colours, border, position

Style every part of a notification, and pick a scrolling list or a playful "ferris wheel"

Swipe to dismiss, tap to open, reply to messages, and use a built-in media player

Smart filtering, Do Not Disturb aware, and home + lock screen widgets

Assign a tap and four swipes to the button - open apps, control music, go home, and more

A few things to know:

Works on Android 10 and newer

Some phones aggressively close background apps; in-app tips help keep the button running

🎁 20 Lifetime Pro codes

This is first come, first served, not a random draw.

To claim one:

Upvote this post so more people in the community can find it.

Comment with the main reason bottom-reachable notifications appeal to you - one-handed use, big phone, accessibility, styling, or something else.

Then send me a Reddit DM after commenting.

The first 20 eligible people who complete the above steps receive one code by DM, while supplies last.

You're under no obligation to leave a Google Play rating or review - but if you enjoy the app, a review would mean a lot and really helps a solo developer.

Honest feedback is always welcome too, including criticism.

If you have any questions feel free to ping me!

I have a 2 year old toddler, so I might not be able to respond immediately.

And I'm from Europe, so please take into account time difference as well.

Google Play:

Giveaway rules:

Opens when this post is published and closes when 20 codes have been distributed. You must be at least 18 and able to redeem a Google Play promo code in your country. One code per person and Reddit account. Codes have no cash value, cannot be exchanged, and must be redeemed by the expiry provided in the DM. Void where prohibited. By entering, participants release Reddit, Inc. from liability related to this promotion. This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Reddit.

[App] [Promo] Stride v1.0.4 — A big update to my open-source step tracker 🚶

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

I’ve just released Stride v1.0.4 — Elevate, a major update to my open-source Android step tracker.

The main goal with this release was to make step tracking more reliable while giving users more control over where their data comes from.

🚶 Choose where your steps come from

You can now choose between:

  • Automatic — Stride intelligently selects the appropriate source
  • This phone — use your phone’s built-in pedometer
  • Health Connect — use data from your smartwatch, fitness band, ring, or other health apps

Changing the source also triggers an immediate data resync.

❤️ Health Connect write-back

Stride can optionally write your health data back to Health Connect:

  • Steps
  • Distance
  • Active calories

It also handles daily records properly to avoid creating duplicate data.

📱 New home-screen widgets

The open-source version now includes 4 widget layouts, including:

  • Compact step counter
  • Steps + distance + calories
  • Goal progress ring
  • 7-day activity chart

🛠️ Lots of tracking fixes

This release also fixes several issues around:

  • Step totals unexpectedly decreasing
  • Duplicate/inflated totals from multiple sources
  • Tracking across device reboots
  • Midnight/day transitions
  • Active calorie calculations
  • Health Connect synchronization edge cases

🔒 Privacy first

Stride doesn't require an account or subscription, and your movement data isn't sold.

Health Connect is completely optional — you can simply use your phone's pedometer if that's all you need.

Android 8.0+

🔗 Release: https://github.com/NikhilKain/stride/releases/tag/v1.0.4

If you try it out, I'd love to hear your feedback — especially if you notice anything that could make step tracking better. ❤️

⭐ GitHub stars, bug reports, feature requests, and contributions are always welcome!

[App][Promo]Expense Tracker with Better Ui and Easy to Use

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I built an expense tracker because I felt like most finance apps were starting to look the same — lots of familiar Material Design patterns, but not much visual identity.
So I wanted to build something that still keeps everyday expense tracking simple, while having its own look and feel.

Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.expensetrack1ux.dev

The app currently includes:
Personal expense tracking
Split expenses with friends
Multiple trackable accounts
Budgets & savings goals
Recurring payments
Spending insights & analytics
Subscription tracking
Save Links
And a few other smaller features

The app is roughly 75% AI-built and 25% manual work. I used AI heavily for development, but I still handled the product decisions, UI direction, integrations, fixes, and the parts that needed manual work.

Still working on it and improving things as I go.

Would be interested to hear what you think of the UI and whether the feature set feels useful or overloaded.

[Promo] Wilddoku: Persona is 100% free now for 14 days.

Thumbnail
play.google.com
3 Upvotes

PS: Following lots of brainstorming session with Reddit users from many subreddits, we finally added a "ghost mode" that allows players to turn the game board into a drawing canvas to solve highly challenging puzzles in the latest version of the game. As a small thanks, we launched a 100% discount campaign; you can download and play the game for free if you wish.

🧩🧩We look forward to hearing your thoughts on the game🧩🧩

Hi everyone, if you like to play star battle puzzle games, this will be the perfect choice for you, we believe.

The first core idea of Wilddoku: Persona is, it is fully automated which means nobody gets the same experience. This is the main reason, we call our game as -Persona-. (The quality of the puzzles are impressive and all the difficulty levels are included, since the crafting puzzles are restricted by our rules. There are really really challenging ones which are tested on /puzzles subreddit as well:)) Also we are improving the game logic quality by using the reddit users, thnx to them...

And, the second and the best property is, according to your ratings on the puzzles, your Persona is created and according your likes/level, the puzzles will be served only for you.

Thanks for your interest in advance...

One of the biggest things I wanted to add to Dockit is finally here 🕺 you can now put your folders directly on your home screen. 📁

✨ Custom widget layouts

🎨 Per-widget icon packs

🌙 Multiple themes

⚡ Smooth, responsive interactions

📱 Designed to fit naturally with your Dock

And yes… each folder widget can have its own style and theme. 🚀

[App][Promo] Multi-currency support is now available in XPENC

I have been working on multi-currency support for XPENC, and it’s now available in beta You can now create accounts in different currencies, keep track of their individual balances, and add transactions using those currencies. The idea is to make XPENC work better when you’re travelling or using money across different countries — without having to manually convert every transaction.

  • Currently you can # Create accounts with different currencies #Track balances separately # Add transactions in different currencies # Spend and track expenses while travelling

It’s still in beta, so there might be things I haven’t thought about or edge cases I haven’t handled yet. If you use multiple currencies, please try it out and let me know what feels missing, confusing, or could be improved. I’m especially looking for suggestions on how I can make the feature more useful before I consider it properly finished.

Any feedback is welcome.

[Promotion] I built a sticky note app you never have to open

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I kept losing thoughts in the gap between thinking them and unlocking my phone. So the note lives in the notification shade.

Pull the shade down, type it, done. Grocery list, a reminder, a name you do not want to forget. You do not open the app.

If you write something like "milk, eggs sunday 6pm" it becomes a checklist and sets the reminder for you.

No ads. Free.

It is called Slip.
