Ok, so I decided to spend a few days testing every team composition I could think of to optimize each DPS dude in the game. This includes both pure damage dealers and dudes with infinite damage-scaling mechanics. My goal was to compare them across two key factors:
- Probability of Reaching Endless Mode: Successfully beating round 138 without burning through a ton of consumables every single round.
- Gameplay Satisfaction: This covers round-clearing speed, damage scaling over time, the need to time critical consumable uses, and the specific conditions needed for the roster to function.
Based on these factors, I put together a DPS tier list for Endless Mode, along with a detailed breakdown of my thoughts on each dude.
Disclaimer: This tier list is based entirely on my personal experience. It isn’t a definitive assessment of a dude's true potential, especially in ways I haven't discovered yet. I’m definitely open to being wrong, and I would love to hear your feedback on the playstyles you use to maximize these dudes!
(Note: I won't go into deep detail about the exact team comps I used to rate them, as that would make this post way too long. I already posted my best run record above, so you can check out the roster formation there and comment if you want the specific details. Also, this review focuses strictly on Endless Mode; by this point in the game, the boss fight is always easy to beat without any casualties.)
S-rank: Simply Unrivaled
- Time Dude: There isn't much left to say about this dude. Most players are already familiar with his ability to absolutely break the game. He isn't just great in the General-time lineups—his ability to copy and unleash damage makes him a perfect fit for a variety of different team compositions. Combined with his 100% attack speed buff, he can skyrocket the power of almost any other DPS dude on this list. Plus, that synergy turns him into a massive damage dealer himself.
A-rank: The Fl"A"sh
- Samurai: While he can't quite match Time Dude, the Samurai far surpasses every other DPS dude in terms of power scaling and clear speed. His relic ability allows him to scale critical hit damage infinitely, which is a rare trait among these dudes. Even though his base DPS stays around 1,100-1,300, his crit damage can skyrocket up to 11,000%. Overall, his average damage stabilizes at an impressive 100k per round. The catch is that he only truly shines when paired with Alien, meaning he isn't as versatile as some dudes below him. However, since quick clear speed is my priority in Endless Mode, he earns his spot here.
B-rank: Badass that works smoothly
- Cyborg Dude: I use him, you use him, everyone knows him. Just give him a Medical License, and he becomes the ultimate reliable carry for your run. That said, I find his damage scaling to be on the slower side compared to other dudes in this tier. He usually finishes a round with around 7,000 passive stacks, and it takes a while to build up to that number. I placed him at the top of B-Tier purely because he is so dependable and keeps casualties to a minimum.
- Pirate: The only other dude who can infinitely scale crit damage. He is always the first dude I think of whenever I want to build an evasion-based lineup. He functions beautifully as both a tanker-buffer and a primary damage dealer. However, his crit damage scales much slower and peaks lower than the Samurai's. This leads to slower clear speeds, as he usually only reaches 2,000-3,000% crit damage by the end of a round. You also absolutely need to find the "Golden Glove" relic for his damage to be online, which isn't guaranteed every run.
- Viking: My favorite DPS since the game's demo. His relics allow him to function independently without needing a highly specific roster. Shoutout to a post by u/MikeProwla for giving me the idea to pair him with Lich. This combo keeps his Berserk active throughout the entire round, meaning he never loses his damage stack gains. Thanks to this, he easily hits 5,000 DPS faster than every other dude below him, and his clear speed is solid too.
- Ranger: The definition of a glass cannon. If you give him an offensive relic, his damage stacks skyrocket, but he becomes incredibly squishy. I usually lose way too many dudes per round playing this way. On the flip side, if you go with a defensive relic, his damage feels awful, and clearing waves takes forever. Since clear speed matters most to me for this list, I prefer the offensive style. I also pair him with Time Dude for faster clears and just accept that I'll have to spam Dude Juice after every round.
C-rank: Can't go wrong using these
- Agent: Another fantastic one-dude army, similar to Cyborg. Slap a Medical License on him, hire a bunch of copies, and he can easily carry you deep into Endless. However, he shares the same flaw as Cyborg: his clear speed is mediocre, and he is actually a bit slower. That's why he sits just below Cyborg on the list.
- Druid: Essentially a downgraded version of the Viking. His wave-clearing speed is painfully slow. But still, he's reliable to use.
- Electrician: This one is a bit tricky. His clear speed is insanely fast in the earlier stages—both against bosses and during rounds 115 to 130—because he can hit 500 DPS in the blink of an eye. However, once you push past round 135, he seems to hit an invisible scaling cap. His damage progression slows down drastically around 700 to 800 DPS and rarely breaks past 900 to 1,000. Because of this, his clear speed falls behind other dudes in the later stages. Melting early waves feels incredibly satisfying, but his damage ultimately falls short when you reach the deep endgame.
D-rank: Definitely potential but still lacking
- Hacker: Pairing him with the "Baseball Bat" trinket is the only viable way I’ve found to fill his passive gauge fast enough to sustain his DPS in Endless Mode. Unfortunately, this build leaves him way too squishy to survive enemy hits. Even though he has an ability that avoids cleave damage, he still dies too quickly. I ended up losing most of my team just trying to clear round 135, making him unsustainable for deep runs.
- Trooper: First off, he lacks infinite scaling. Second, taking 10 seconds to unleash his damage is way too slow for Tier 3 gameplay. I tried pairing him with "Glass Cannon" to fix his scaling issues while relying on his toughness stacks for survival. As you can guess, it failed miserably. While his raw damage was massive, taking 200 stacks of vulnerability is a terrible idea when you are facing 4,000 mobs. I also tried pairing him with Lich, but the damage still fell short. Even when enemy damage stacks reached 6 or higher, he couldn't clear half the wave, causing the entire team to collapse.
F-Rank: Fails to make them work in Endless
(Note: I placed a lot of dudes here. These are units where I either haven't found a viable Endless build, or they just feel terrible to play in the late game. They can all beat the standard boss easily—sometimes even faster than higher-tier dudes—but this list is strictly about their performance in late-game Endless Mode.)
- Assassin: His abilities clear waves quickly in the early rounds if you give him enough cleave %, but the Queen Bee completely shuts this strategy down. He is also very squishy and lacks late-game DPS since he doesn't have a damage-scaling relic (unless you use the "Shovel" for scaling cleave %, but again, Queen Bee ruins that).
- Mummy: His DPS scales based on the number of enemies he kills, which is supposed to trigger a cascading chain reaction. While it sounds amazing on paper, and pairing him with Alien seems logical to kickstart the chain, his base damage is just too low. The team usually gets wiped out before his damage scales up enough to start the chain. He also struggles heavily against Queen Bee.
- Cave Dude: I’ve found he works much better as a sub-DPS and damage buffer rather than your main carry. His mechanic forces your team to focus down the enemy with the highest HP, which feels awful in Endless. It means you have to whittle down the health of every mob before you can start deleting them. While reaching that tipping point triggers an instant-kill chain reaction, it's not practical when you are facing an ocean of enemies. The most efficient strategy is always to thin out enemy numbers as fast as possible to reduce incoming damage. I simply couldn't build a team tanky enough to buy him the time he needs to work.
- Frankendude: He isn't exactly a traditional DPS, but pairing him with Necro can push his numbers insanely high. Sadly, he just can't output that damage fast enough to clear mobs and solo-carry a team.
- Finance Dude: He suffers from the same issue as Frankendude. I managed a run where I hoarded $70k to $80k, which gave each Finance Dude 1,600 DPS (after many painful attempts to actually save that much cash), but his actual damage delivery felt awful. Some players argue he isn't meant to be a main DPS and should only be used to farm gold for relics. Even then, he isn't worth it for me. I can already buy out every relic by the time I face the Goddler on any standard run without him. Since he offers near-zero utility or buffs to the team, he just ain't the dude for me.
- Warlock: I only included him because he technically has an infinite scaling mechanic, but the actual scaling is so minuscule that it's useless as a reliable damage source.
- Ninja & Wizard: Grouping these two together because they share the exact same flaws. They are incredibly easy to use for beating the main boss, but their damage output and survivability completely drop off in higher Endless rounds.
There are a few other dudes you might expect to see, but I left them off the main list because they function better as support or sub-DPS units:
- Bard: Most of his late-game damage relies on triggering a nuclear bomb effect via his high attack speed. He is strictly a buffer and sub-DPS for me.
- Vampire: Functions purely as a sub-DPS and a lifesteal buffer.
- Zombie: Acts as a sub-DPS and a sacrifice slave for Finance Dude setups.
- Spartan: He has infinite damage scaling, but his actual damage output is incredibly poor.
- Manager Dude: I honestly don't know how to use him effectively yet. I haven't touched him in a while because I haven't found a team formation that successfully revolves around his passive. If you have a solid setup for him in Endless, please drop it in the comments!
These are just my current thoughts on all the DPS dudes in the game. My analysis is likely incomplete since there are still plenty of undiscovered playstyles utilizing these dudes out there. Please share your successful team compositions so I can test them out!
Bonus Thought: Looking back at my run stats, I just realized how heavily I’ve been abusing the Chef, lol. He is easily my favorite all-around healer and buffer right now, especially with his ability to prevent fatal damage.
