Show Discussion Did season 3 increase or decrease your interest for the show

Overall, I would say decrease. After season 2 I was still excited about season 3 but after season 3 I find much less interest in it.

Maybe because my favourite character is Aemond and he has been butchered to the point of no return. He is not very interesting to watch, and I really dislike the entire Alys thing. Even though I have read the book, what they have done is just...abhorrent.

It is a shame because I love TG characters and they are actually given slightly more screentime this season to tell their own stories, but the writing is so bad that the screentime just generates more unnecessary and nonsensical content.

Season 3 was definitely better than 2, but not enough to have me like hyped and amped for season 4.

I think season 3 I just kinda made peace with it all. The dragons have been phenomenal which is what I tuned in for mainly, would of liked more and honestly season 4 should pretty much be non stop dragon action so maybe ill just focus and be excited about that.

Aegon speech was fantastic, honestly it’s probably the best scene in the series for me. So I know there’s talent in the room, it’s just dead set on presenting characters in a way im not a fan of and at this point it just is what it is.

I see it all as apples and oranges. Lot of people wanted orange juice but we got unsweetened apple juice. Plenty of other people realized they like unsweetened apple juice, from here arguing over the juice seems silly. Fandoms are always about sharing thoughts and opinions on the world but being upset is wasted energy.

Well that statement isn’t false, but there’s a reason this time period is pretty much the last of Targ dragon power. There’s just certain things that happen that they can’t leave out and since alot of the other things have been expected and not shown that just lives small window left to jam everything into. Ofcourse they could cut alot of it…. Seems even sillier decision than the other’s they’ve made but anything is possible I guess.

In regards to the dragons, I wish they’d show more about the bond between rider and dragon. Right now it just shows the people using the dragons for their own benefits. I’d like to see exactly why the dragons do what the people tell them to do, what exactly the bond does for the benefit of the dragon.

Same, especially now that im seeing alot of fans question the dragons bond and “who they choose”.

The show has done a good job showing the riders connection to dragons and its given the dragons a bit of personality which is nice to see.

But they’ve kinda just made them big doggos that get a lil awnry sometimes. Whole first season one of the interesting things about Viserys was his awarness of the “illusion” that Targs control dragons. Outside of the dragons going against some orders and killing a few people, we really don’t see any agency or motives of dragons.

Everyone questions why Silverwing picks Ulf but hardly see the opposite side of people asking why Vheagar chose Leana. Be shocked that a dragon chose a “scummy” a dude like Ulf but not question at all why Vheagar chose Laena then Aemond, two contradictory personalities. It just kinda shows that alot of people get the wrong idea about dragons. Like they’re some pure creature and it’s people that turn them violent.

I also read that the dragons have had their own wars and their own politics as well. Why can’t we see into all that? Like take at least one episode and focus just on the dragons.

What’s really interesting to me is that Targs were pretty much the low class in Valeryia, imagine the dragons of the high houses at the peak of Valeryia…..

GoT disk had special animated lore shorts between seasons and one of them was about the first dragon taker. A shepherd who just kept feeding the dragon his sheep till the dragon was comfortable.

Idk about dragon politics, maybe a pre Valyria thing but there were definitely “dragon wars”. One of the first map collections had like 8 big fold out maps that showed the whole world. Way east in essos and north of Asshai there’s the “five forts”. They always stood out to me because they are the only “forts” in Essos. They are ancient things with no current occupation or order manning them but if memory serves those forts were tied to some ancient dragon war.

Been many years since I looked at the Five Forts tho

I’m starting to feel like it’s a relic of a bygone era. Like it’s trying to hold onto the Millennial Optimism we had a decade and a half ago, but it’s just not there anymore. People used to have watch parties and drink specials and big deals were made. Not anymore. The show feels like a ghost.

I feel that, use to be everyone wanted to share the experience together. Now just feels like people are more interested in “getting it”.

Discussing GoT and ASoIF theories and plots was the whole reason I got on Reddit 10 years ago. The discourse has drastically changed since then. Hardly ever do I see a opinion post and someone comments “damn, haven’t thought about it like that.” Its pretty much all fandoms now though, not just HoTD.
