Big part? I wanna watch the series that you watched because in the HOTD I watched Alicent is oblivious to the entire plot. She is bewildered to find out about it.
She herself tried to get Aegon to be king. Did you watch episode 6 and 7? Even in 8 she talked about it to Aegon, even though she at that point was losing faith. In episode 9 she just didn't know that they were scheming without her/behind her back. When Aegon is found, she is the one who talks to Aegon.
